Make a series! This was great! And he did a great job. Minimums on his first IFR flight, unbelievable!
@@allenwilson9928 haha pretty crazy isn’t it?! Glad you enjoyed it!
I second Allen!! Please make a series. This year’s aviation goal…IFR rating.
Happy New Year
Pleaseee make this a series. There’s nothing on TH-cam for IFR training with students. At least series wise and both Y’all are entertaining. Great content
@@caseykleeschulte4862 Heard! You’ll see more here for sure!
This!
Instrument flying is so much fun because of how technical it is and how much is going on. Would love to see more of this stuff! Also, hell yeah to your student! ILS down to minimums on your FIRST ifr lesson is insane! And absolutely a confidence booster and a huge “first one’s free” to feed the addiction to ifr flying. Great job to you both!
It was my favourite kind of training man. So cool!
Definitely make this a series! You threw him straight into the deep end and he made it through. I feel like even you flying that approach would get intense, let alone a student on their first IFR flight
I relish this type of flying. I absolutely love it! At the airlines I made an approach to mins in Pensacola with a 35 knot crosswind and it was my best landing to date. Nothing like breaking out and seeing the runway out the left window 😂
Definitely make it a series
Yes! Series, please!!!
Awesome video as usual! Definitely make it a series, this is super fun and informative to watch.
@@chrisholland8226 Thanks man!
Great video and yes an IFR series please! First landing to minimums: respect!
Wonderful to see another IFR student, have a "normal student" time keeping on the localizer and glide slope! Great work, and thank you both! 👏 😎 ☁️
This was so great!!! Actually made me nostalgic for my instrument training. I'd love to go back to getting to experience that for the first time again! This was close.
That’s amazing to hear!
🐐
Love it! Just started instrument training, and watching a student's first flight lesson go to minimums is awesome. Your enthusiasm and energy for flying and instructing is contagious. Always appreciate the content - would love an instrument series. Cheers!
3:12 that was nicest clearest clearance I've heard in a long time, makes it easier for pilots, W controller
PLEASE make a series! This was SUCH a great video. Thank you!
I am looking to progress to the IR here in the UK and, in just 20 minutes, your video answered so many questions I had from reading the Radio Nav and Instrument Flying books.
That’s fantastic to know mate!
I remember my first ILS approach... I was over-focused on the glideslope, but was all over the place on the localiser and ended up chasing the needles. Good work Jonathon. I also commend Lew's teaching as well, because yes, it wasn't perfect, people learn from their mistakes and Lew has a perfect and safe teaching style by letting students make mistakes but in a safe and learnable way. Nothing like getting thrown in the deep end on your first IFR flight.
Jumped straight into the deep and and didn't look back haha. Yea mate, chasing is when things start to go haywire. It's tough at first, for definite!
your passion for instructing is infectious and pays off with solid learning opportunities from your students while keeping the main thing the main thing and having fun, good job and keep it up!
Ah thank you for those kind words. That means a lot!
I love this. Nothing has ever made me want to go back to instrument training, but this did
@@alanp3070 That’s nice to hear.. glad you enjoyed it!
100% make a series... I was grinning with you guys on that breakout. well flown Johnny V
I couldn’t stop smiling on the ground. So cool to be a part of.
@@LewDixAviation, I did a trial flight at multiflight in Leeds Bradford once. it was nothing like any of your flights. not as fun or relaxed. if you was back in the UK id be wanting to do my PPL with you, with the laid & fun approach
Would love to see this continue as a series. Wonderful job flying, and a great job instructing, letting him do the flying and work, keeping him safe!
oh hell yes, we want IFR series pretty please!
Since you asked so nicely 😉
@@LewDixAviation I find it really useful as an insight for the potential next level, having my theory exam next week for LAPL ;)
Best ifr training video I’ve seen yet, excellent explanation
YESSS MORE INTRUMENT!!!
Absolutely, a series!!! LewDix, that was an awesome video, can't wait for more. Great job instructing, too. Jonny V, awesome job flying! It may have not been perfect, but for the first time & down to minimums.....you're well on your way, man! You have inspired me to begin my instrument training, too. Thanks!
Absolutely! Any actual IFR stuff is greatly desired!!
Heard!
Got my CFII last summer so yes would love a series…I have my style but has always been similar to yours…celebrate when people do well and adjust when things are off
Series for sure! This is great.
better than any episode of Corrie!.... bravo pilot! 👏
haha And about as much drama!
Yes keep it going. Will love to follow
Yes! Would love this to be an instrument rating series. I just started my IFR rating, so that’d be super helpful!
I’m 30 hours in towards my Private Certificate, and this video is definitely help inspire and motivate me to get my instrument rating afterwards! Please make this into a series, it’s great and gives us newer pilots some good fresh content to watch!
Yessssss brother! Please make this a series. I love your videos and am an avid follower/ watcher. Currently getting back into IFR training after a year out of the cockpit. So I’d love to see an IFR series.
you make flying super fun and learning easy too.
Glad you enjoy my work!
Love the video. I have 12 hours with my instructor then got a virus in my right eye almost lost my vision in that eye I’m finally cleared after 6 months can’t wait to get back to instrument training. Hope to see more IFR training videos in the future. Nice approach by the student.
THE LEEEAAAANS!!!! I love IFR flying! Requires a ton of discipline and focus and trust on the instruments. Doing an approach in IMC to minimums will really teach you the importance of going back to the attitude indicator after every check (hub and spoke method, my favorite). It will save your life and prevent spatial disorientation.
Hub and spoke all the way!
That was awesome, I would love to see a series
Sweet!
Please make it a series! That was great to watch, you really know how to put your students at ease which is awesome! I am thinking about starting my Instrument Training too and this kind of video is all I need, so cool! Keep up the good work man, cheers!
Glad you enjoyed it man! Thanks for the kind words!
If that doesn’t get your heart pumping, I don’t know will. Great video guys!
Thanks mate!
Love the positive reinforcement lol. Keeps things not so uptight. Thats how my CfII was like. Unfortunately past away few years ago mid air collision in houston with a paraglider
Shame to hear that!
Awesome, Jonny! Like a pro!
I'm about to begin my IFR training - loving these instrument lesson videos.
@@Corporate232 perfect timing!
Definitely make a series. My first ever instrument lesson was an ILS down to 100 feet above minimums. I was hooked after that. Great videos. Thank you.
Yes make it a series, would be great.
Yes please make this a series! I’m just starting my instrument training this Monday and would love some
More videos like this!
Brilliant video with awesome dialogue. What a first IFR flight 👍
I think any chance you can get your students to get into the real soup with them is an excellent opportunity to train and have them a bit more relaxed because they are with you the entire time. People can freak out on their own going through clouds at first but if they had experience before hand, they are better off. Get Jonny up on every single cloudy day! I need my IFR updated, I'd go up with ya when my plane is done but we are leaving Kissimmee for Kentucky at the end of the month. Time to move along. More IFR cloudy fun please!
Yes, a series on IFR training please. I enjoyed "recovery from an unusual attitude" when I was involved with this back in the 1980's. I'm a 71 year old guy who did a load of flying back then in UAE and at Barton airfield near Manchester. I enjoy your channel. Thanks for the hard work on this channel bro.)
Thank you so much mate!
Such a great video! Do more!
That was so fun to watch because I am in the same exact point of my training and even the planes' avionics are like mine.
My goal is also to break out on top and be on that blanket of clouds.
Keep up the IFR series.
@@thomasyuhas Oh perfect!
This would be an awesome series!
Lewdix you are a master! That was awesome.
Legend. Thank you!
Yeeees make a series!!!!
Love it! Make an IFR series

Great job for your first IFR Lesson and getting actual. Great instruction and keeping it positive as you made corrections.
Thanks.. Challenging for both of us and together we made it through.
That was sick!!

This makes me excited to learn IFR. 20 more hours and hopefully I'll pass my check ride for my PPL and start this. Love the videos!
@@chad480906 You’ll love it! Thanks man
Great job by the student! Also great job by Lewis with his cool and collected instruction getting him back on localizer!
@@jamess6656 thanks man!
Awesome video! I take my instrument rating checkride in about a week and I'm happy to see that I'm not the only one who doesn't use flaps until the runway is in sight.
In this bird I tend not to use flaps for the approach because Vfe is 85 and that's a bit slower than I want to fly it. In other aircraft with a higher Vfe I tend to use 10° of flaps.
That was fantastic, yes please to making this a series, it's super interesting plus also I want to do my IFR this year so selfishly it would be great for me ha!!
Haha heard and noted!
Please make a series, would be awesome! Thank you very much!
YES PLEASE !! I'D LOVE to watch a series from Day 1 all the way to his instrument checkride, cause I'm starting instrument in a month too :)
Would be great if you could upload the flown course or flight plan to show the route and everything. Especially if you start doing holds and stuff!
This is great! Yes please make an IFR series!
Be great seeing a whole series on ifr
Roger!
Please make it a series! I am about to start instrument training and I’d love to see the way you teach it
Perfect timing!
Brilliant, absolutely do an IFR instruction series!
Incredible video. Dare I say video of the year? 👀 seriously, this was captivating and definitely different.
Haha an early contender.. Glad you enjoyed it so much. Means a lot!
Well done! Trust those instruments.
@@mikeperry2814 So important to trust them!

yes, please.. make it a series... i am at 250TT now, and ready to start my IFR training. i have had a couple flights, with .8 actual, but only 5.5 sim...
without the ground as reference, it has got to be difficult to manually fly above the layers... visual, to a cloud.. lol wow

Near end of my CPL here in Canada, so I'm all for a series on IFR!

Man I love your channel! I currently do flight training here at KORL as well and I wish I would've ran into your page before I started my training and had you as a CFI hahah Hopefully I'll meet you in person one of these days!
Nice one man! Which flight school do you go to at ORL?
Awesome first IFR flight!
You have definitely found your best student)
He’s great to work with and honestly a genuinely nice guy. Can’t speak highly enough of Jonny V!
Really impressive!!!!
Series for sure. Send it, lol. Also, if possible, can you zoom in on the Garmin when getting it set up, approach, load & activate, etc, always helps with identifying buttons and stuff, this was a great video here, thx.
Noted! I need to work out how to get a better view of it. I have a few ideas
Would love for more Instrument stuff as I’m currently working on getting my CFI-I. Seeing how you teach instrument students would be awesome!
@@XavierXaviiThomas Roger that!
Yes to a series - I'll even help you edit it!
A series would be awesome. There are several good video series, including your own, for ppl, but none that I know of for instrument.
That was wild, making an approach to minimums in imc isn’t common. He’s lucky to experience the real thing on the first flight.
I think that’s the first time I’ve been to mins in GA. I’ve done it plenty of times at the airline but it’s a different beast in a smaller bird..
There will be more IFR videos my friend!
Maybe my favorite video. I'm in Phoenix and I wish we had some actual to practice in more often
@@cholubaz Thanks!
The more IFR the better.

Dang your student obviously did a lot of radio prep. He's great, he'll do well!
It’s like Beard meets food meets IFR
Please do a series. I'm actually trying to study back up on my CFII skills in prep for taking on some instrument students soon, so a series would help out a lot.

An Instrument series would be great. Hopefully you can add more zoom-ins on the HSI so we can really see how hard it is to capture and maintain the course!
