Rainbow is one of my favorite groups with different eras of great music. The earlier Ronnie James Dio era is the best with songs like "Stargazer", "Man on the Silver Mountain", "Catch the Rainbow", "Gates of Babylon". The Graham Bonnet Era had this song and "All night long". Joe Lynn Turner Era had "Stone Cold" and "Street of dreams". And the Doogie White Era had "Ariel" and " Hunting Humans".
The leader of Rainbow, guitarist Ritchie Blackmore previously in Deep Purple, was listening to ABBA at the time and wanted to record more radio friendly music. His plans to record this song caused Ronnie James Dio to quit Rainbow, since they were recording pioneering early metal songs like Stargazer, A Light In The Black, Kill the King and Gates Of Babylon. All the things Rainbow recorded are under the Classic Rock umbrella but fans of Metal only listen to the Ronnie James Dio era songs. I would say that all of Rainbow's catalog is worth listening to, as I listen to the later recordings more than the Dio era. Radio friendly songs from the later era to check out first are All Night Long, I Surrender, Stone Cold, Can't Let You Go and Street of Dreams being very good mixes of Hard Rock and Pop-Rock. Rainbow didn't really get recognized as much for their music in the west, but they are one of the most popular classic rock bands in Eastern Europe, just by looking at their songs on TH-cam there are so many comments from Slavic countries.
