Walthers Oil Loading Platforms Assembled, the Easy Way? - Part 3: Gluing the Platforms and Headaches

- The Walthers Oil Loading platforms and how to build multiple ones and connect them the easiest way. This is a detailed tutorial on how to assemble multiple kits. This video includes updates and corrections for part 2.
These platforms will be a loose representation of the Calumet Refinery at Princeton, LA.
These are the steps if you are building multiple platforms that will be joined together. (continuation and corrections from • Walthers Oil Loading P... )
Step 6 - Glue the assembled platforms in pairs on to the pipe run supports
Because of deficiencies in the kits, you will have to bridge the gap between the pairs of platforms. My choice was to use .010x.156 strip styrene cut to the width of the platform to glue over the gap.
STAY TUNED FOR PART 4!!!!

Nice save Robert. Put that on every connection and it will look like it's a normal steel plate. As you said ,once painted it will look like it's natural.
Robert, I thought Walthers kits were perfect, amazing information, looking fantastic
You are so funny!
Gonna look Great Reguardless, looks like you've overcome their deficiencies, ture modeler.
Thanks Bernard. I'll see wha they look like in the end. LOL
Wow. That looks awesome, Robert. 😎👍🏼
It's getting there.
@@FlyingCrow - you can do it. 😁
Wow. Thanks for sharing.
Sure thing John.
Way to adapt and over come Robert.
Just like Clint Eastwood. LOL
Wow, tons of work. But looks awesome!!! Great info!!🫵👍🙏✌️
I hope it helps someone in the future that decides to put together 16 of them. LOL
Looking good 👍🏻
Thanks. We'll see what happens in the end.
Glue a piece of angle iron under one's that don't reach the supports. Again ,once painted , it will look fine.
As far as straight a metal ruler might help aline it up.
Thanks for the suggestion Bob
Cool video thanks for the info looks good
I appreciate the support.
get em Robert. having noted your complaint, man that thing is gonna look good when completed!
Thanks, John. As long as I don't pull my hair out first.
Sure glad you 😮 know what your doing 😮 because I don't lolol 🤣 looking good 👍
I'm making it up as I go along. LOL
Thank goodness the supervisor did not sign that X😊
It's good he wasn't there to pencil whip it.
YOU DA MAN! Would not have that much patience with that kit but maybe after investing in that many…possibly…can’t wait to see the finished installed scenic product
I have had the thought of jumping up and down on them. LOL
So, build each kit separately, then glue them together using fill in pieces.
No, because they still won't fit together properly. I did the first kit by itself and it still didn't fit together properly.
Heck that's nothing Robert, we have tooling and model car kits, that use sixty year old tooling! Yes some of them have their problems too! (Dave).
Model companies need to stop doing that. It does get frustrating some times, but I guess we do figure out ways to overcome the deficiencies.
For sure..@@FlyingCrow
Shame Shame Shame on Walthers ! Glad you got it to work out Robert it looks good . 👍👍
Thanks Jerry. Maybe enough people will complain. :D
Nice way to correct the problem. It's still gonna be a great build when you are finished
The thought keeps running through my mind, "Can I send them to Joe?"
HAHAHA

Didn't Walthers make a new design on their unloading/loading platforms? Kitbash Robert! Build your own? Have someone 3D Print fill in pieces?
Not that I am aware of.
Looks like this might just be a real great unit when completed. Now let us face a reality that this will have to be put together and modified some because of the afore mentioned short comings. Either assemble all of the platforms with the supports and then custom fit the piping or find another company to buy from. Why can't you just think of this as a scratch built structure??
A Frankenstein structure. Half Walthers, half mine. LOL
Could you have glued the legs onto the bottom of the platforms first. Then slide the already built piping through ? Then line up and glue on the cross pipes ? Just curious. I can’t recall how I built the 2 I have
Then the brackets on the pipes won't fit. I saw an earlier produced kit and you won't believe the difference in how they look and fit. It is all because of worn out molds.
i had the same problem with mine i think i filled back my pipe run after messing up my first one i almost made my own walkways out of plano walkway treads
That's funny, I was thinking about using the Plano walkways myself.
Robert what did you use to paint your cork and track ,do you have a video
