    “The godly may trip seven times, but they will get up again.
    But one disaster is enough to overthrow the wicked.
    Don’t rejoice when your enemies fall;
    don’t be happy when they stumble.
    For the Lord will be displeased with you
    and will turn his anger away from them.
    Don’t fret because of evildoers;
    don’t envy the wicked.”

    We definitely need more examples of doable layouts that take up very little space, don’t cost much money and don’t take years to build. Great job!

    Filming it outside was inspired. Everything looks so much more realistic, especially with your lawn in the background and the natural shadows.

    This project turned out awesome! Looks great! It should be a lot of fun to operate. Not powering the frogs is my biggest regret about my 1x6 HO switching layout and something that I will definitely do the next time I build an HO layout.

    Thank you for this video! My own HO layout is built on a 1 x 6 shelf unit and is based on the Inglenook Sidings puzzle. I restarted model railroading about 3 years ago and as I'm in my 70's I needed to keep it small if I were to finish it. An operating session takes about one and a half hours running at slow speeds and leaving time for the ground crew to release and set hand brakes and align couplers. It can be seen under my name in public posts on a certain website that concerns books and faces. For me, Last Mile railroading is where it's at. Cheers from Wisconsin!

    That looks great, Jimmy! I have always been a fan of the switching layout concept. I have a bunch of switching integrated into my next layout plan but it also incorporates an oval. Being portable and making it able to deploy virtually anywhere is a real huge plus for my needs when doing something like this.

  • @rwissbaum9849
    @rwissbaum9849 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

    Fantastic job, Jimmy! The model railroading magazines are *full* of layouts that occupy huge amounts of space, but sadly lacking in examples of layouts that require very little space. MRR2 is a fine example of the latter: it occupies less space than a bookshelf; in fact, it could easily rest on top of a bookshelf. It's important to note that MRR2 need not be the end: if you (or the builder of a similar layout) ever obtains more space, it's easy to build an extension which would connect at one end of the layout.
    We spend a lot of time discussing how we can save money in our hobby, but very little time discussing how we can save space. This series of videos is a stunning exception.

    I always think that small shunting layouts are more mentally stimulating and enjoyable than an oval.

    Looks great Jimmy, I see you had a shock putting down the static grass, I use an old ball point pen with a brass rod in place of the ink tube...no more shock.

    Thank you very much for the inspiration. I live in a single room that is 16x14 feet. My allotted space for my layout is 2.5 feet by 13 feet. I was skeptical at first, but seeing your layout built on a 1 by 6 with that much detail and functionality really persuaded me to go and start building my bench work. Thank you so very much. I will subscribe and follow.

    That's a great layout, maybe a one or two track removeable staging yard would add a whole lot more operating fun as trains can arrive and leave from the "rest of the world " .

    Another fine video and layout Jimmy! You show us what one can do with a little bit of imagination and space.
    The video was enhanced with the outdoor scenery and sunshine. Keep up the good work. Maybe we will see
    you at Tweetsie Ghost Train this year!😁👻

    In that livery, you could hit with a number of industries that existed in Savannah, GA in the 50s - Kaiser Chemical, Dixie Crystal Sugar, Union Camp Paper, Ga Ports Authority, and others. ACL was the major player in that area.

    Just put finished the base board and track layout for my shelf last night, it's one foot shorter and 6 inches wide than yours and still debating if that will work out well, because it was harder to allow space for a locomotive and multiple cars to move onto a side track and back to the main line. Pick out almost the same switcher ( ACL #59 SW8 , Proto 2000, NRW DCC decoder) and several 40 foot boxcars. Thank you for the visual of a completed product, I do plan on doing more of a rural landscape however.

    Loving this little layout! I have as some long-term-dream, making something like this but to Proto87 standards, or near enough. But I'd first have to start with something like this, as I also haven't really dabbled in HO much. (other than a little Inglenook Sidings that was nothing more than track on a table, that I used to play with with my daughter when she was young). It would be cool if you could at least discuss Proto87 in a video in the future. It doesn't get a lot of press.

    with rockets we call them "fin fillets". Here it keeps the track down. Still a technique - glue from the side, not the bottom, is a revelation
