I was the production designer on this music video. I believe the company at the time was Palomar Pictures. Directed by Joseph Kahn and shot entirely in San Francisco. On locations and sets built in one of the Pier buildings. Was a crazy fun filled shoot.

FNM was great before Mike Patton joined... but holy shit, he was like the catalyst that just made them so fantastic and exciting to listen to. Pretty much anything he's involved in is pure gold and should be cherished for the remaining existence of human kind.

    • @OratoryJamesIV
      @OratoryJamesIV ปีที่แล้ว +8

@@monstro3874 Agreed about Patton 100%, but let's be real here--they were an absolute mess before he joined. "We Care a Lot" had some of the worst tracks I've ever heard in rock music sandwiched in between a handful of decent tracks like "As the Worm Turns," "Jim," and "Why Do You Bother?" But, "New Beginnings" legitimately might be one of the worst songs ever written. Throw in the extremely rough first recording of "We Care a Lot," with "Greed," "The Jungle," and "Mark Bowen" which were also horrendous, and it was a really, really bad debut. Between Mosley's nigh-endless drug abuse and the constant in-fighting between the band members (again, a lot of which can be laid squarely at Mosley's feet), it is a miracle the core lasted long enough to get Patton. Bottum actually quit until they all agreed it was time to get rid of Chuck. FNM with Patton is legendary. FNM with Chuck was tragically forgettable.

The whole video is a tribute to/parody of the 1958 Hitchcock-directed movie "Vertigo". Singer Mike Patton plays the role played by Jimmy Stewart in the movie, and actress Jennifer Jason-Leigh plays the role(s) played by Kim Novak in the movie. A couple of the same San Francisco locations from the movie, such as the Brocklebank Apartments, Palace of Fine Arts, or Fort Point (in the Presidio right under the south end of the Golden Gate bridge) are also used in this video. Other scenes from the movie are referenced/duplicated on sets.

The music video, directed by Joseph Kahn, is based on Alfred Hitchcock's Vertigo, a film dealing with acrophobia. Shooting occurred during 1997 in San Francisco, California. It features the lead singer, Mike Patton dressed in the same outfit as James Stewart's character, trailing a blonde played by Jennifer Jason Leigh, respectively dressed the same as Vertigo 's female lead Madeleine. Many scenes are recreated from the film, such as the opening rooftop sequence, Madeleine's plunge into San Francisco bay, Mike moving up and down a stepladder, the belltower sequence complete with the famous Hitchcock Zoom and the psychedelic dream sequence.

Imo faith no more the band sounds like many different genres, each song though has its own flavor to match what bands sound like. In this song I hear, deftones and audioslave mix.. song digging the grave from their '95 album sounds like soad mixed with foo fighters..

Great song by a great band with an excellent video based on a classic Hitchcock film. This interpretation includes scenes Hitchcock probably would have loved to include in "Vertigo" if he thought it would get past the censors at the time.

This is in my top 3 favorite Faith No More songs. The other two are "A Small Victory" and "Falling to Pieces", and of course the classic "Epic" is worth checking out.
Mike Patton has a huge discography spanning many different bands/projects. I think his work in the band Mr. Bungle's "California" album is a great place to start.

@steven milstead Yeah, you're right. We Care A Lot was indeed a FNM album. It was pre-Patton and I rarely listened to it, but it counts. I never cared for Chuck Mosley's writing, performance, or antics. They knew they weren't going anywhere with him fronting the band. R.I.P. anyway.

    This is getting old
    And so are you
    Everything you know
    And never knew
    Will run through your fingers
    Just like sand
    Enjoy it while you can
Like a snake between two stones
    It itches in your bones
Take a deep breath and swallow
    Your sorrow
    Tomorrow
So raise it up and lets propose a toast
To the thing that hurts you most
It's your last cup of sorrow
    What can you say?
    Finish it today
It's your last cup of sorrow
    So think of me
    And get on your way
    It won't begin
    Until you make it end
Until you know the how the where and the when
With a new face you might surprise yourself
Like a snake between two stones
    It itches in your bones
Take a deep breath and swallow
    Your sorrow

I quite honestly have not heard this song since probably the 90's. I think my brother and I had it recorded on a cassette. But from time to time it pops in my head. The beat and the part "your sorrow, tomorrow." What a trip I ran into this. I couldn't even remember it was Faith No More and Mike.
