Paz tying her hair during the breakdown is one of the greatest moments in music video history.
That was badass.
I’ve always thought it was sexy, but I can’t explain why.
It really is.
Uh, yeah.
The entire sequence during the last held vocal note…..
Who’s still thumping this in ‘24?
Me.
Me
Yoooooo
This will never get old because it's so true I wear apc shirt at least once a week
he did it all for you
This song still gives me goosebumps after all these years. A true classic.
Same.
Bigtime!
Very few songs i can listen to again, again, again its fucking insane. it never gets old, never.
Very well said it is a goosebumper classic
They were so good in concert!
I was young when this dropped and decades later this is still fire
I was old when this dropped. Now decades later I am still old.
I still think Paz tying up her hair is among the coolest bits in a video
Bill Richards
I couldn't agree with you more brother
Female bassists, man. There's just something about them.
One of my favorite parts as well.
Bill Richards a favorite of mine as well
well said, devious
20 years of listening to this song and still get the chills every. fucking. time.
Ditto!!!!!
LOL, I do as well! every time! this song is about Maynard's Mother Judith.
Specifically 3:20 for me at least. lol
Same for me. 20 years...damn...
what is this 20 years you speak of 😁🤘
I remember downloading this song on Napster when it first came out. Took 30 mins to download but i jammed out all night to it.
Napster is evil..Metallica 😊
@@TheDemon2.0 Honestly, fuck Metallica. :)
Hahah part of my university studies, did an essay on Napster back in the day. Feels kind of Spotify’s daddy now.
Lars messing with your dial-up
I recall using Napster on satellite at my friend's house and it took 3 days to download Nirvana's smells like teen spirit... Lime wire was just as bad...
Damn! Maynard is such a vocal monster. And watching Paz tie her hair and then pull the pick out of her mouth and hit the next bass riff without missing a beat…is marvelous! What a great band. 👍
Yes, sisisi es supremo esa cordinacion. Excelent .
…Maynard?
She knotted up her hair females can multitask like that🌷👊

Got to kick it on the tour bus with Maynard last year. We drank bottled water, played with his dog, and talked about vineyards. Not what I expected.
Nothing quite like hydration and petting some puppies.
Now that'd be an experience. Lucky chap.
What kind of dog does he have !
You lucky groupie you.
Exactly how I'd imagine it.
Paz tying up her hair is everything omg.
Too bad she is no longer a part of APC
I've thought the exact same thing for twenty years now.🌟
Thank you, in one a fluid motion
I whole heartedly agree with you on that, super sexy!!!
And let's not forget how hot she looks with her mouth open in front of that 🎤
Happy Mothers Day to all the awesome mothers in this life and the one after❤
I will NEVER tire of Maynards vpice be it tool, a perfect circle, puscifer...my favorite vocalist of ALL time.
This song is about Maynard James Keenan's mother, Judith Marie. Judith was paralyzed when Maynard was 11. She stayed paralyzed until she died 10,000 days later. (27 years) She kept faith in God the whole time. Maynard had quite the hard time accepting his mother's death, and her beliefs, which often conflicted with Maynard's
Kyle Whitaker no shit? I had no idea
Probably isn't news to the OP, but for those unfamiliar, check out Horizons by Pusifier; an unoffical "part 2" to this song which deals with Judith's death and MJK scattering her ashes...
She, also, was abusive to maynard
Hence, the Tool album 10,000 Days, and the songs Wings for Marie (Part 1) and 10,000 days( Wings part 2) about him dealing with his mother's death. and i feel Wings Part 2 is definitely one of the best Tool song.
Great to find this stuff out, gonna listen to those songs with fresh ears
Paz single handedly caused thousands of teenage metalheads to fall in love in one move.
And I thought I was the only one.
She's so hot. Especially while she plays bass. Women who play instruments are automatically hotter just because they are talented.
#truth
Single most sexiest and powerful moment in rock history.
Dude, reality. Like it was all for me. Me alone. A moment we weren't supposed to see. But, we did. Perfect.
Credit to the videographer. He knew damn well the viewers wanted to see more of Paz, but if he filmed any more of her, people watching this video would completely forget the rest of the band even exists. She's incredible!
It's David Fincher, the director of Zodiac, Se7en, Fight Club, and Alien 3
My current focus is on the whole, not the human candy. The effects, feel, attitude, presence, ... Bolder, finer, than a quick spurt of adequacy of videoclip. This goes beyond music; it's a capsule of what it meant.
When she ties her hair back at break is probably the hottest moment of any video recorded.
Yes Paz totally rules! And you were right what you said, when she rolled her hair up she took the video there!!!
@@tomc6208 It was so captivating that nobody probably noticed Maynard taking a snort of vodka from his pretend water bottle
Josh is such an anthemic drummer. It drives the song in a manner that puts the entire context of pain, hate, anger, and sadness in the best of way with no fancy tricks or gimmicks.
Josh Freese was on an episode of Yo Gabba Gabba showing how he can play drums one-handed while eating lunch with his other hand. Not joking! Such a badass! 🙌🏻
I think this shows why he was the guy to replace Taylor in Foo (saying that is horrible) otherwise he has the skill to do it!
@@bsquinney Yeah apparently he knew Dave before Foo Fighters too. Been around a looong time.
@@bsquinney Just watched him in the Beato interview. Great guy with a killer resume!
The shot of the heels and the hair tying is my everything.
Paz makes my man-parts feel funny
So fucken badass
why?
Same on both accounts. I’m glad I’m not the only one! The subtle and not so subtle imagery of these two things is captivating for me. Paz is just awesome on all accounts.
She doesn't miss a fucking beat!!
22 years later and this song is still a jam!
Yesiree, that’s why am I back too, again ! 🤘🏼
Love rocking this and Tool in the gym

Same here brother!!! Love the whole album!!
Holy shit... 22 years! I was a punk high-school kid at that time... man how life has grown with this song in it
I've had a crush on Paz for years. Such a groovy bass player. ❤
What I love about this music video is how it consistently cuts between the band members instead of just focusing mostly on the lead singer.
Paz tying her hair and coming back in JUST in time is as awesome as she is. But the understated hero here is Josh Freeze. 👍🏻
the guy Josh freeze from different bands on the recording he plays a lot of bands
reminds me of Maynard taking that dude down that got on stage with one hand, mic in the other, sitting on him, and never missed a beat...
Ookey doo key look at Paz tying up her hair!! I'm so gooshey dookey mezmerized!
Skinnyest chick I've ever had a thing for.. LOL
Where are they ? I just now hearing this band and I saw they been ghost for 3 years
Dude. There's just this aura that Maynard gives off. Can't get enough of it. Not to mention his songwriting skill too.
A feather from the Metaphorical Angel of Death....
so beautiful. i wanna cry 😏😘
he didn't write these songs
not true.....So Billy wrote a song about MJK s mother LOL.....parts of the song were done BUT MJK CAME N AND FINISHED IT and made it a lot heavier .
A touch of narcissism too. But that only helps.
This Album is a Masterpiece and 100% Underrated!
ok, i'm definitely coming around to the view that the meaning this word is absolutely misunderstood... who EVER under-rated ANYTHING Maynard did... let alone APC... any single, any album, especially this one. it was hugely popular when it came out, and continues to be an absolute classic. when your guitar tech goes on to be a legend... you might be maynard. just like tool, every member is tight as fuck, and he just brings it all together.
People really have no idea what the word "underrated" means lmao
"not rated or valued highly enough." Not difficult to understand. LMAO@@AnnAyn
Orestes is one of my favourite songs. Such an underrated gem.
Underrated by who? Stop saying that about every song you like!
Judith is the mother of singer Maynard James Keenan of the band A Perfect Circle, and the subject of his song "Judith". In 1976, Judith suffered a cerebral aneurysm, which left her in a wheelchair for the rest of her life. Despite her disability, she remained faithful to Christianity. Keenan has said that he blames God for Judith's condition, and that he watched her continue to pray.
...and 20 years later we're still talking about THAT hair tying.
😂😂so true!
well the simps still are
Yep and still watching it.
I’m dying. I’ve always loved this song, but had never seen the video. I like swooned a bit at the hair tie moment LMAO. Apparently this is universal.

I’m so jealous at the people who are hearing this for the first time
that would be me. amazing
SAY THAT!!! It IMMEDIATELY became my favorite by PC the second I first heard it!! Nothing has or ever will, knock it out of first place!! It will forever kick ass!!!
Nevermind, I've just learnt about Paz Lenchantin's existence, after 13 years listening to this band:))
every time its my first time :)
I came from trying to find an image of "a perfect circle"...
Paz just so perfectly timing that bun... 🤌🤌🤌
Why are all and I do mean all female rock n metal bassists so good looking?
When I was younger, I think Paz tying her hair up like that while they played was the coolest thing I'd ever seen.
Still is mind you.
best scene of the clip.
This and Deftones is all I need in life.
hell yes!!! i agree and incubus
I need to catch incubus live..i love them
And Tool
You'd love the band Handsome from 1997.
Absolutely 😁 love Paz 😜
This might be a rare 'perfect' song. The vocals, the bass, the guitars, the drums, the lyrics, the soul of the song, the passion. Everything about it and how all of these things complement each other perfectly is absolute perfection.
I totally agree. The quality of the production is also amazing.
Likewise! From start to finish. Its tantalizing and intense (visuals are great too!)...one of those great songs that you can't help but soak in-its good energy.
So you're saying it's a perfect circle😉
So tight and well executed by everyone in the ensemble. Homogeneity.
You're much better than I am at this, Chiko!
😢 I'm here because this is the song my son's father said reminded him of us. He passed away last week. Many many years ago when we first started hooking up it came on the radio while we were driving, he put his hand in my leg, it was the 1st time he'd done that. I knew then we were getting serious. It wasn't until a few months later that he told me this song made him think of me because I was like heaven beside him & he had hell with in. Rest is soul he did have hell within. The demon of addiction. He fought it so hard but after his mother was murdered that's when there was a giant empty hole, there for the taking. It was drugs for a long time, then we had our son & he checked into rehab for an entire year! He did great for over 8 years & then messed up again. That time got him locked up for a few years. After 20 years together the relationship deteriorated. But we have always been best friends & stayed that way. We lived 2 hours apart so we didn't get to hang out like we would have. He even had a new girlfriend & he was doing great. But then one day he decided he could have a drink every now & then. Nope. Full on alcoholic in no time. On top of that he was diagnosed with some heart, gallbladder & liver problems. He got locked out of his apartment last week in below freezing weather, the neighbor called 911, because she saw him out there for a long time, he went from ER to ICU & then died before me & his son could get there 😢
Everyone please take care of yourselves. Everything in moderation. Life may suck sometimes but ride it out. You never know how many people you really have in your corner. Life is always peaks & valleys & God takes care of us in both places. ❤
Bless you. Thank you for sharing.
Music is a healer. If it helps let it in. Cry scream let it out.
What a testimonial...wow. I hope many read this and best wishes to your and your son. ❤

I like how this video is basically two decades old and looks like it could have been filmed last year
It's directed by David Fincher. No wonder it looks so damn good
@@mbilal865 A testament to Fincher's genius and quality.
Freakin Fincher.
I was thinking the exact same thing..Or maybe we are just that old...:-D
I was thinking today about this video. Hence why I'm here tonight. I was asking myself "How could I record a video myself and make it look like the Judith video?" Not even the direction. Just the look of the video, like a dark 90's movie. Please someone guide me.
You can really feel what James went through with his mom in this song. It's so raw, not only in the lyrics but in the delivery. Really expressive and great music.
Nothing like as sad as what he went through but after I left home, my parents become hardcore fundamentalists. Our family had never been more then holiday Christians and virtual agnostics growing up so it really felt like my parents had been taken from me. They would hold 'prayer sessions' in the house where they would speak in tongues and perform 'deliverances' (lay exorcism) until 3am. This song helps me cope.
Love..no..real love and respect for those who meet in this life of pain we must all live
James prayed to God as a kid on behalf of his mother just a guess and the more time that passed and pain he seen his mother in and what he seen as unanswered prayers his hope waned and turned into rage and hate for his mothers God he gave up and she held fast to her faith it is sad so much emotion in his voice dude was is scared from his childhood of watching his mother die a little more everyday.. but he missed the lession his mother wanted to leave him with I feel she knew she was dying and she wanted to leave him with faith in something bigger than this world she wanted him to never feel alone that no matter what he could find hope in God?
Where can I learn about this.. his upbringing?
I've always related to this song... but I don't know the story behind it.
@@harryr2431 It's all in his book, but long story short, his mom had a brain aneurysm when James was a teenager, leaving her severely disabled, and he cared for her for many years. She died 27 years later, the Tool album 10,000 Days was dedicated to her, and this song is named for her. He also named the first wine he made "Judith".
Edit: his book is called A Perfect Union of Extraordinary Things, it's available in hard copy and ebook, a very interesting read.
Just watched all the original members perform this at the Hollywood Bowl last night… oh my lord!
This song has and will continue to age like fine wine.

such a good video
Man of culture. Nostalgia has got us good.
Saw him last night at mohegan sun show..they kicked ass!
14 more years to come
The fact that Fincher (Se7en, Mindhunter, Zodiac) directed this makes it 1000 times better.
It's easy to see the similarity now
Wow! Didn't know that. Thanks for the fact
Fincher wanted Maynard to play the Raul character in the movie Panic Room. He was on tour so the part went to Dwight Yoakom.. Cool stuff
Some shots are crazy good, for example that pan up the mixing board
My preferred shot is a subtle one: Through the bass's strings to the blurred guitarist
I was able to talk to Paz one time and it was a highlight of life. What a beautiful woman and a truly nice soul. The way she times putting her bun up in the break of the song kills me.
Nick Randles What did you two talk about?
Nick Randles she just a bass

she's fckn hot as hell
That's what make Argentina so special, proud to be Argentinean
Still in 2024 this is a banger.
yup it is
Yes it is
Pretty crazy how something as simple as Paz putting her hair up in a bun made such an impact on this video. Perfection.
The scene at 1:52 cements this as maybe the quintessential rock music video. The fade of the main guitar, the sexy bassist hair knot, Maynard's silent sip of water, the piercing high riff and of course the drummer who absolutely kills it.
I like to call it the "stretch moment" in between the first chorus and second verse in rock songs. It's that moment I feel the everyone can take a moment, stretch their arms, maybe neck, limber up, and just go in on the downbeat.
He's beating that drum set like it owes him money!
I agree. This was a defining moment in a brilliant performance - frankly hard to pin one down in such an astonishing video. For me the peak of of a great song by a great band. Sad that they disbanded but it just spread the joy - Tool, Pixies,. Not sure what Billy did afterwards - seems to have slipped out iff view but essential in this band. Love Maynard as a performer, but love Paz in every way!

What's it about?
@@matthewcarroll5117 Maynards grandmother who was a devout follower, but died paralyzed. He's basically blaming jesus christ for how she died, because she was such a strong religious woman but died broken and sick. Chorus: "Its not like you killed someone, its not like you drove a spiteful spear into his side" Christ died on the cross, and a soldier drove a spear into his body, and the lord started bleeding water, and the soldier got scared and ran off. The song also says "even though hes the one that did this to you". I like the song, but its from the perspective of someone that doesn't completely understands God, has no faith and just mad about how his family member died. My grandmother died similar. Devout christian, still died with a series of health problems at age 52. Still I dont question christ or blame God for what happened. That is not the will of the father. Life has its problems. Aint no getting around that. Thats not the fault of God, though.
@@user-lr7lp2ol2h It’s about his mother, not his grandmother.
@@user-lr7lp2ol2h exactly. It's sad how often so many people want to blame God for stuff like the death of a loved one. That's not His fault.
People forget that if you acknowledge the existence of God you need tk acknowledge the existence of Satan too.
The Bible clearly states how Jesus came that we may have life and have it more abundantly and that Satan is the who he comes to steal, kill, and to destroy.

3 things I love about this video.
1) You never really see Maynard's face. He walks around, somehow disconnected.
2) Billy reaching for his slide. As a musician with hundreds of hours onstage at shitty little bars, I can attest that a good transition from slide to without slide takes a little practice.
3) Paz tying up her hair. I just love that.
This is a masterpiece song, and the video only enhances this.
3) has always been my favourite bit too
I love that bit Paz tying up her hair and Billy reaching for his slide, always thought it was just me. Somehow both add so much to the music and video. :-)
Your comment is WAY BETTER than those who go from video to video asking "who's listening in year XX"
You should try the rocket slide. scott holliday of Rival Sons uses one. it's kinda like a ring that you can flip the slide out on and then back. you can play chords and leads then flick the slide over. great song too.
The hair and the slide add authenticity and the feeling that we are catching them rehearsing.
Maynard is so lucky to play with drummers like Josh Freese and Danny Carey. The drums in this song are incredible. The fills literally send chills up my spine.
ya boi E josh and danny are lucky not maynard MAYNARD IS FUCKING GOD....
ya boi E too bad songs like Ænema, forty six & 2, the pot, right in two, sober, and the rest of the tool songs won't be played live, unless maynard plays a tool song live with () live, then it just wont be played by Danny Carey
The guitarist is killing it. And I agree with the drums

Are we listening to the same song?
I see A Perfect Circle, I CLICKS!
Idk if it’s just me, but A Perfect Circle, & Tool totally give me the same vibes. I love them both.
Can't even figure out how Maynard holds that last note so damn long.
+Matt Brewster I believe the consensus is that he is superhuman.
+Matt Brewster If you must now, Maynard is actually the Second Coming... He just turned into a rock star instead of a prophet.
Listen to The Grudge by Tool
+Primož Kramberger But JC didn't have a lead guitarist, a rhythm guitarist, a bassist and a drummer.
+Matt Brewster the force maybe?
This song is 20 years old and still slaps.
stephanie chase ; Still slaps the 'Un-believers' in their Face!!
Kicked ass then, kicks ass now, will kick ass always!!!!
What?
@@Derek-no8fu what?
Fuck im old I owned this cd when it came out.
One of the best rock songs ive ever heard
November 2023.... 23 years later and this song is one of the best song ever written and one of my favorites ever!
👍👍👍👍👍👍
I could spend hours and hours just seeing Paz tying up her hair.
I don't understand how she does it.
Why chili sauce lillake lillake
It's such a simple, cute thing. I had hair to my waist as a young man, and I never learned that trick.
thinking the same
Latin girls are sexy eh? Jehe
Love this song. David Fincher captured the essence of the entire band with an ambience for all time. Paz is a total rawk star in this video. Tieing the hair, wearing high hills, and commanding that bass is in another atmosphere. Song, vision, ambience, and talent makes this one of the top three all time videos of mine.
@@edwardireson6901 3:00 Is that her playing a bass ? 3:06 That is a man on a 6 string which is not a bass . So what are you saying about what DR JP MD stated .
@@edwardireson6901 where was this "Paz " didn't play thing reported?
Or are you affiliated with group?
@@edwardireson6901 to be fair OP didn't state she played the bass in the recording, but that she "commanded that bass" in the video, which is a rather different statement.
You came across as she is just some bimbo making an appearance, when in fact she is very competent musician, whether she played at the recording or not.
I really miss the good old days! long live APC!
Went to see NIN with surprise opener. The surprise opener was Perfect Circle's first appearance.. they opened with Judith. It was a Once In a lifetime experience. I feel blessed ❤️💯
