- A first look at the wonderful PT-17 Stearman in Microsoft Flight Simulator - taking it for a test flight around Santa Barbara on the west coast of the USA. It's a wonderfully modelled aircraft, it flies like a dream, it looks beautiful, sounds gorgeous, and it's very reasonably priced too!
Probably my favourite aircraft to just "go for a fly" in at the moment.

Wow, great intro to the Stearman, first plane I bought and still a favorite. I was lucky enough to get two flights in one years ago in Chino, CA, including an aerobatics hop. So it’s a bit nostalgic for me based on that little experience. It feels pretty real in VR.
What a beautiful aircraft, I flew it at Compton Abbas this evening, handles really well, and as you say sounds amazing.
That does look like a really fun plane to fly... may have to pick it up. Thanks for the vid!

With that colour scheme, I can almost imagine you flying the Stearman sedately along, nervous student pilot in the front cockpit, yours and his mufflers streaming in the slipstream, when suddenly you're being overhauled by a formation of Zekes, Mitsubishis and Zeroes off to bomb Pearl Harbour!! Lol!!

It's the only plane I've purchased. Easy to fly. Be sure to turn on the smoke feature. You will receive a trail of smoke. That right there is a selling feature!
You're the only person that sees the smoke though (or other people flying the same plane)

Hardware is Intel I7 3.6 Ghz, NVIDIA 3080 RTX, 16Gb RAM. Sim is running in 4K with Ultra settings, but recorded at 1080p.
Comparing this review to that of the GAS stearman, it might give viewers the impression that this is the better product, but it is not. The GAS version is a much better plane. But at the time, the opinion was what it was. Hard to believe I’m saying this, but the GAS has better handling and better textures.
One of the first planes I bought, such great fun! Are you going to pick up the Beechcraft 17 Staggerwing that came out today?

I've been flying this for a while and I love it but I was a bit surprised to find it has a complex prop. I've researched this a little and can't find any versions of the PT-17 that had an in-flight adjustable constant speed prop so, is this accurate or a mistake by the developer?
It's made by DC Designs - question them at your peril :)

Brilliant! Thanks for watching - perhaps you can answer a question. The version in the simulator appears to be far too dosile and stable - I imagine the real thing is a bit more of a handful ?

You should revisit this module. The flight model is quite bad.
It was very early in the simulator's life. There is another Stearman available now from a different developer.
