Got the run out model a few months back for my wife due to extreme V8 fuel consumption figures she was getting in her CX-5, I believe she is involved in some sort of street racing mums group. She now gets 4.5L consistently on school run style suburban driving. We have 2 kids, 4 seats works perfectly for us, who wants other ppls kids in their car anyway. We use the CX-5 for the times we need more capacity. CX-5 was 55k so its interior is nicer but the Honda is still nice and nothing will break, our last Honda was flawless for 12 years. The hybrid is great to drive, really smooth compared to traditional torque converter. Big thumbs up to this car.
Great video, i’m probably going to buy one. One thing I will disagree with though is Chasing Cars’ thoughts on the “complexity” of the drivetrain - its not complex at all. In fact, its quite simple. An engine powers a generator, which can either power a direct-drive electric motor, or charge the battery. At high speeds, a lock up clutch between the engine and the wheels activates, with only one ‘speed’. There is no transmission, at all. It is not a CVT. Compared to toyota’s power-split CVT, it is hilariously simple. Another thing i’m gonna have to disagree with is the cloth. That cloth is great.
This honda is a good vehicle , it sells in japan under the name vezel. It is a reliable crossover , for reliablity in this segment you can go for Eclipse cross Honda hrv hybrid Corolla cross Mazda cx5 All these have solid drivetrain.
@graemecouch5010 vezel is the name for the Japanese market, 47k is very pricey. Crv hybrid is also expensive, but the positive side is the honda hrv hev is very reliable, it has a good power to weight ratio and the fuel economy is great. The interior is not as good as a byd sea lion etc , but for certain the honda will easily outlast byd, haval , kia and hyundai. Parts can also be imported from japan
Four seats, no spare, lacking specs, underpowered and $7k overpriced. Very sad to see Honda being demolished by a board that's clearly believing its own publicity. Last month they sold 854 according to Vfacts. That's an annualized rate of around 10,000 just half of their 20,000 target. What's the board doing?
I loved the old hrv. Magic seats, zippy but small. 4 seats....that automatically deterred me. Sure usually I don't need all 5 seats, but sometimes on rare occasions you do need to fit 5 people. This is the stupidest decision ever. Now I'm not going to get a Honda, even though I am driving a Honda now. 10 years ago they were good. They are not keeping my loyalty anymore once my old car goes. Honda is wasting away
...how can a SUV which cannot tow anything (official Honda advice) be competitive? Even the hybrid Jazz - same mechanics - can manage 600kg! Only good for supermarket car parks and those who need "road presence" to boost their egos.
Imagine 1.5L No tailgate opener on lower trims No ac in rear on lower specs No electronic seat control No spare wheel in a country that is for safety on long distances CVT? Has HONDA reached their bottom of their barrel moment after years of being rather decent. Even the CRV is 1.5 L. With only CVT- disgrace and ludicrous!’

Great Choice i had a CX5 Diesel which averaged 5.5/100 but had to sell so now got a HRV Hybrid .
My Daughters CX5 averages 12.5l/100 which costs .

Trains have been doing same motor setup for years !
Better than Nissan Eforce which is having generator problems.
The biggest fail is the lack of a fifth seat. Although most will never use it, it will be annoying that one time you need to.
The psychological aspect of a 5th seat can’t be underestimated…
Ironically, the euro spec hr-v has a fifth seatbelt up on the top of the small middle seat. don't know why you guys don't have it.
there’s room enough for rare occasions
I'll give Honda one positive - they know how to make a dashboard that's traditional, but keeps up with the modern tech.
This honda is a good vehicle , it sells in japan under the name vezel. It is a reliable crossover , for reliablity in this segment you can go for
Eclipse cross
Honda hrv hybrid
Corolla cross
Mazda cx5
All these have solid drivetrain.
Why would Honda sell under the name Vezel ! I think HONDA board have lost the Plot ! Firstly trying to sell this at $47000.

Many rivals that outscore this in terms of tech and price. Honda should make this like 20% cheaper, I hardly see any of them on the streets.
Good control layout. Touch screens suck if you are a driver ~ bring back real buttons.
pretty sure the hr-v competes with the toyota ch-r, whereas the corolla cross competes with the zr-v.
The problem for Honda is this is $47000 & CRV Hybrid is $60000.
Low km Audi or Lexus prices !
Is pricing still "fixed-price model" i.e. pricing is not negotiable at all?
Yes, the only thing I could negotiate on was the trade in price and one dealer gave $1000 more than the other so a small win.
Is based on the the jazz platform
Oh dear, Honda what are you thinking? The affordable model is gutless, expensive and... the cherry on top... It's a 4 seater only... epic fail.
Who's putting 5 people in these cars realistically?
If you need 5 seats regularly, you'll be getting 7 seat cars
That's because of ADR needing a top tether point for every seat in the back. These are classed as 5 seaters in Europe
Honda thinks they can squeeze into an ever shrinking affluent "middle class" market
@@TheStagswag Utter nonsense
@@3h4yj8 Correct… Honda can’t be bothered doing what other manufacturers do… fail

Like Nissan believe their own Hype ! Too Pricey like Xtrail eforce ! What $60000 for Nissan & $47000 for Honda ! Get a low km Rav4 Hybrid for $36000 !
It needs a 1.8 l motor
Why no kids height door handles?
This is actually a really great point! Typically it’s done to provide a ‘coupe-like’ appearance.
Make full wheel spare great again
What no spare tyre! Good luck trying to sell this is Australia
You did not present "magic seats" functionality. Anyway, this model is a bs.
4 seater at a high price ... shrinkflation Honda style.
Oh great another small/mis size SUV review! Wake me up when this is finished please?
Complex hybrid $$$$$ in future.
Nope your Wrong !
Honda. Bring back a spare wheel ffs.
No spare wheel??? Even my jazz has a full spare!!!

Bring back the Jazz!
This of pointless, subaru owns this market, stick to what you do well ~ bring back the hot hatch!
Android Auto not wireless - wow how old is the tech in this car, and a very small screen, and no wireless phone charger. The tech is years old.
Agreed. Wireless Android Auto has been standard on much of the competition for years.
Who cares, wireless unreliable so put a small cable in- hardly a deal-breaker
there is a way to make it wireless for android auto, there is a hack to enable via the in car setting
And way Overpriced ! Honda will be next to fail in Aust !
...how can a SUV which cannot tow anything (official Honda advice) be competitive? Even the hybrid Jazz - same mechanics - can manage 600kg! Only good for supermarket car parks and those who need "road presence" to boost their egos.
No spare wheel. Fail.
Imagine 1.5L
No tailgate opener on lower trims
No ac in rear on lower specs
No electronic seat control
No spare wheel in a country that is for safety on long distances
CVT?
Has HONDA reached their bottom of their barrel moment after years of being rather decent.

It's not small. It's a GM SUV
Bring this to the USA market Honda!!!! Honda North America have designed some ugly Honda here.
man bun 😞
and steers with cossed arms !
