One thing I’ve noticed about Chinese electric cars is they really bring more than decent performance down to a budget level. Whereas before a $30k 2.0L hatch has middling performance, and you’d be tempted into a $40k warm or $50k hot option. The instant torque and punchiness off the line on a $30,990 base MG4 Excite 51 easily beats the pants off a warm i30 N Line or Mazda 3 G25 that costs $40k+. Thats before we get into running costs of $2/L petrol whereas my MG4 needs about $8 of off-peak power or free on solar to get a “full tank” 700km of driving range. By that logic, I don’t think I’d be overly impressed by $80k EVs that offer the same performance that we can get in $30k EVs. The most impressive EVs are the cheapest ones whereas for years we are used to decent acceleration locked to thirsty performance models.
This will be interesting when more of the major Chinese EVs release last year. BYD is behind on EV tech and luxury features. Let's see when Xpeng and Zeekr arrive along with Nio.

The warranty is fantastic and technology is usable while driving with the aid of buttons! Definitely more of a city suv then a road trip car but we didn’t need that out of a car

Tesla is off my list. Just don't trust the Tesla autopilot at night, because of the missing radar in the front and just using the cameras, it will crash in any obstacle it's unable to recognize. They are a great alternative and lifestyle choice around cities.
Dont worry about the environment (although i disagree with you) they are fun to drive.
Why cant we just have both types of propulsion? Why does it need to be one is better than the other. Both types have their place based on needs.
@@phyjumost of what you said there is incorrect.
Many of us with EVs run them off solar at home. Batteries have improved considerably, and whilst what you said was true for many batteries 10 years ago now they are projected to have a 5% efficiency loss in the first 10 years.
Lithium can also be recycled and this process will get cheaper at scale.
Both EVs and ICE cars have their benefits in our society. I own 1 of each for different reasons.
They are horrible for your wallet. Massive depreciation in price.
You had me until I saw electric. Australia is different and until the do gooders realise this the push needs to stop.
Don't shove your beliefs down the throats of those of us who are glad to see EVs. You had gas and diesel your entire life. You can handle a few EVs.
Good for you.
EV's have a place in our propulsion choice. Governments do need to stop pushing so hard and removing the link to the environment.
If you take away the political ideology, which immediately puts many offside, and see EVs as a great alternative, and in many cases a better one, for those of us in cities then you will change your mindset.
They are one choice that we have right now, and they are a great choice if they suit your lifestyle and driving requirements.
It’s all fun and games until your EV turns into a fireball as hot as the sun 😢
@@trogdortheburninator8149 Except ICE vehicles statistically catch fire far more frequently.
@Micksteroony it's the same argument these guys make without fail. It embarrasses the hell out of me as a motoring enthusiast who can obviously see the unique perks both types of motive power can give you.
