Starting at 24:36, Melanie who I believe is trying to paraphrase Robert Sapolsky said _"we still have to lead our lives as though we do have free will"_ because as an example with regards to the criminal justice system which is based on the belief of free will, if we don't believe in free will, it will _"dismantle the whole legal system"_ .
Our criminal justice system is unfortunately based on the belief of free will but if it wasn't, I don't believe that it will _"dismantle the whole legal system"_ . Not believing in free will has a huge benefit where it no longer makes sense to hate or blame anyone which is a good thing and as such, it also no longer makes sense to execute prisoners based on their crimes.
Not believing in free will doesn't _"dismantle the whole legal system"_ where we no longer lock up criminals and allow them to run free. Criminals who commit significant crimes will still need to be locked up even if we don't believe in free will because of the following three reasons and not because we hate or blame them which is based on the mistaken belief that they are morally responsible for their crimes.
    1) Deterrence - To deter them and their peers in committing future crimes.
    2) Incapacitation - To not allow them to harm others.
    3) Rehabilitation - To help them live normal lives by training and therapy.

    To Melanie:
I appreciate your academic approach. People in power usually only change things if there's such a foundation (apart from a changed perception in society). It strengthens the lil movement. I like your choice of words, technical terminologies - it's language wise creating order. Hope you'll be able to realize your academic work on the RTD for all!
& To Kevin: Thank you so much for creating this unique podcast & putting in lots of effort! Giving people a platform to present the arguments & own experiences. ;)

Another great episode! I've experienced pro-life oppression too, and it's not fun. It's horrible that Melanie had to experience it.

The Canada House of Commons narrowly stopped a bill which would have banned MAID for mental illness

that's awesome news for canadians. does that mean it's still on track to be available for non-terminally ill/physically ailed people around early 2024?

@@sneakycactus8815 I don’t know if it’s on track or not I’m not sure. But my concern is how narrow the vote was. I really think right to die groups should be focused on the liberal party winning the next election and right now they are set to lose. They need to for example focus more on the cost of housing. How can right to die advocates make them see this?

@@sneakycactus8815 the vote by the way was 167-150
