    Very clear and you are a good teacher. Teaching us what we need to know rather than showing us how much you know. Thank you!

    I have just successfully replace the saddle on my Epiphone EJ160 E
    Thanks for your excellent guidance.

    Nice job explaining the needs and reasons. Good pace, not a lot of unnecessary verbage. Would have like to have seen the height adjustment, but seems pretty straight forward. Think I have a good idea to take mine on. Thanks again

    I think this video is the most informative I’ve seen. Thanks.

    This must be the same if not a similar of craft that made bone teeth for George Washington.
    This was very informative on how bone saddle is formed. Now I'm gonna search TH-cam for a Tusk saddle being created.

      Curios as to what you've found on Tusq brand nut and bridge material. I have a new "Seagull S-6 original" and the Tusq bridge is already collapsed and notched from string tension (I'm not impressed!). They appear to be a composite (plastic) not bone.

    Great video Scott, recently I was asked if I could do what you're describing, it was on a nice Maple 'Greg Bennet' and it sounded much better, sincere thanks 😊😊😊

    13:38 "The D is a tiny bit flat. That means I'm gonna have to bring the edge of the saddle forward just a hair"
    How do you bring the edge forward if you already sanded it back too much? (Does not make any sense to me but if you got the intonation right in the end you must have done it somehow)

    • @oldleatherhandsfriends4053
      @oldleatherhandsfriends4053 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      you bring the edge forward towards the neck meaning you sand a little more.

      @@oldleatherhandsfriends4053 @Eric Voigt ...what Eric said makes more sense...since the angle is already filed and its flat, it kinda possible to bring the edge forwards towards neck unless u want the radius (via affecting individual string height) to be affected,....2 ways around this I know of: 1) super glue and baking soda or bone dust to build removed material back...irritating and toxic and finicky to work with but i found no deterioration of tone or longevity...or 2) when filing initially, be super conservative

      Looking at the saddle edgewise you can see the low E and B are set back, the high E is set forward and the D is more saddle mid point which allows scope for the D to be set forward a 'hair'. Usually, this would be done with the action a touch high so the saddle radius can be perfected on the radius block and the base of the saddle fine flat sanded to achieve the desired low E - high E string heights.

    Thanks for all the lessons ... enjoy them. Great instructional tutorial! I just started collecting and reselling old 1970's Japan guitars (Alvarez, Epi,Lyle) but haven't done any saddles yet. After this video ... I am ready to give her the college try.

    great job showing how to do it, but for me I doubt my skills doing this kind of upgrades so I went to Bob Colois and he made one based off my factory spec and it was spot on all the way up the neck and I only post this for those who are like me loved the video but doubt there skills

    Funny thing with intonation is that even if you're completely shit on guitar you can still tell when its not spot on,annoying as hell.This video helped me get in my mind how to approach the filing so thanks for the guidance.

    Super skill. Pro job. J found the like was a hard tap due to the absence of a klaxon heralded death warning for my teeth at 3:50ish though. Still cringing...If the antler i am using makes that noise i will bite through both cheeks before cracking all molars. Am I alone or member of a step-group of those severely crippled by specific auditory frequencies?

    That's a lot of work you've done there! I went out and bought a ready made one from China and usually they are fine, when after I've fitted them before. But I've fitted one recently and the low E string is sharp at the 12th fret, how would you remedy this?

  • @billirwin4286
    @billirwin4286 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    "Some guitars don't need compensating" Why is that? (I've notice some very fine guitars that don't have compensated saddles) Also, it would be good to see exactly how you filed the saddle in the fine tuning part.

    What size grit belt would I need to sand a nut or saddle down ?

  • @pir869
    @pir869 ปีที่แล้ว

    string gauge affects intonation,thicker strings start to vibrate farther from the bridge and nut than thinner gauge strings do.........

      Still waiting? 😁
      Width of string groove in saddle if it has them. Also, Grooves face away from the neck.
      Width of saddle at high E end is slightly less than at low E end.

    Salve, sono passati degli anni e solo ora ho visualizzato questo video "fantastico" anch'io ho già costruito una sella ma, con il tuo video riesco a costruirlo meglio e vorrei chiederti, se dopo che monto la sella l'accordatura di 1/2 corde e ok, e l'intonazione e bassa rispetto ad altre, come posso alzare l'intonazione della corda stessa, se ormai ho già levigato e abbassato la sella, grazie
