I want to honor my dad, he adored my mom, he got up every morning at 5am before mom to put on a pot of coffee. This is 1960's . (I'm 67) He worked side by side with my mom one would wash dishes one would dry. My dad always said "listen to your mom." My dad passed in 1970 when I was 13 and I know how important dad's are because I lost mine. So as Father's Day approaches, appreciate what you have. Happy Father's Day Dad and Happy Father's Day to my Husband. 🙋🏻‍♀️💜🙏🌻

I like the idea of Bad-boy-Brian coming in dressed as Prison Mike (from The Office) with a red bandana and his go to clothing choice, and just going unhinged; drinking full strength soda's, hurling expletives and chewing candy cigarettes.

I’m the 4th of six boys and my Dad was the more calm, level parent. However, my oldest brother swore at my mom and my dad came home from work angrier than I’ve ever seen him before. He pulled my teenage brother into a room by his neck. I heard yelling and the sound of a fist contacting skin. When he came out of the room, my brother was holding his eye and my dad said, “She’s your mom, but she’s my wife! You ever do that again and you’re done!”
Largely because of my dad’s commitment to us as his sons, we all received athletic scholarships. The first five brothers for baseball and the baby in football. He threw hours and hours of BP, never said no to a catch, and gave us the two most important lessons that I hope to carry forward with my kids: there is no substitute for hard work and always love and respect your mother.
I still cry every time I watch Field of Dreams, when Kevin Costner’s character asks his dad, “Hey, Dad, wanna have a catch?”
Thanks for honoring dads, for being great examples of my dad’s two core lessons, and for being endlessly entertaining.

I Discovered Nate a few years ago and he quickly became one of my favs. In my search to find all things Nate the internet could provide I found the podcast and Love it. Finally got to see Nate perform Saturday in Toledo. Great show. Nick and Mike and Zimmerman were funny and Nate killed. Was awesome to see new material and me and my gf laughed so hard. The way you craft your jokes and deliver them is an art form and you’re one of the best out there doing it. Bringing the water joke all the way back around was a stand out moment for us.

I love this podcast. You guys always make me laugh and right now my family and I really need that. My sister passed away in February then we lost my niece in May, Another niece is in hospice, and my kids’ dad just passed away 2 wks ago. It’s just a very sad time. Thank you for making me laugh and lifting my spirits a little.
Also I can relate to you guys in a lot of ways. I live in Southern Illinois now but I grew up in Michigan just a few miles from South Bend, Indiana. My dad was originally from Hackleburg, Alabama and my sister and her husband used to live in Opelika.
In my younger years I sang country music in a band and love the city of Nashville. My sisters, daughter, daughter in law,and granddaughter used to make a trip there every year. I miss those times.
Thank you all for what you do. And Aaron you’re still a father even though the baby isn’t born yet. Happy Father’s day to all of you!

I have so many memories from my childhood in the 80's of my grandpa playing Conway cassettes in his old Buick (silver with red fabric interior), driving us to places like Opryland or King's Island, but I don't think I ever heard Conway's That's My Job until just a few days ago, and it broke me to pieces. What a great song. Just wait Aaron. As much as you already think you'll love that baby, you have no idea. It changes you at a molecular level. And songs like that will destroy you. My "baby boy" is a senior in high school now. Even though he calls me "bruh" and often looks at me like he can't believe I can even tie my own shoes, I'd do anything for him. You guys are doing a great job holding it down while Nate's out bein' funny. Happy Father's Day!

What a great episode! Y’all are great dads!! My husband is the best dad I know. He started as a “girl dad” to our daughters and since then, we adopted two boys and now I get to watch him as a “boy dad.” What a privilege!!
PS-One “girl dad” song that we listen to when we want a good cry is “There Goes My Life” by Kenny Chesney. With a daughter who just graduated high school and is leaving in the Fall, it’s a tough one. I thought Dusty might know that one.

My favorite dad song would be "Leader of the Band" by Dan Fogelberg, which he wrote as a tribute to his father. Hello folks. Just wanted to give a special thanks to you guys this week. Had a horrible night Tuesday and woke up Wednesday in a bad mood. I put on the podcast and was quickly having a good time. Was laughing really hard at the Chime ad read at a stoplight and caught the guy next to me staring at me like I was crazy. Enjoyed the songs at the end and wanted to pitch one to the girl dads. Kenny Chesney there goes my life. My daughter moved out recently and we danced to that at her going away party. As the girls get older it hits harder. Also, a couple weeks ago when Brian said there was a splash zone (Thought of Gallagher) at Aaron’s shows I lost it. As per usual it was quickly dismissed by the guys. That’s Background Bates for ya. Thanks for helping us stay in good moods out here every week!

The chime ad read misunderstanding reminded me of a similar misunderstanding I had on my wedding day. After the ceremony my new bride and I went back to our hotel room with the best man and maid of honor so that she could fix her dress. We were only there for five minutes, I lay down on the bed and exclaimed “ that was a mistake” referring to laying down. All 3 of them looked at me in disbelief. Turns out saying that was a a mistake isn’t something you should say 30 minutes after saying I Do.

I think You’re Gonna Miss This might be the ultimate song from these lists. The other day Facebook memories brought up a video of me having a conversation with my now 8 year old daughter when she was just three and it turned me into a blubbering mess. You don’t realize how much their voices have changed or how cute it was to hear them say words slightly wrong until they no longer do it and you truly do miss it and want it back.

I work as a teacher for "at risk" youths. Many kids have said that their father is not a dad. I'm curious to hear if you guys have an opinion on the difference between a "father" and a "dad". You guys all seem like good "dads" (involved with your kids), not just "fathers" (just the biological contribution to the child's existence).
I love this podcast, you all seem welcoming to us listeners, like you have us all over to hang out with you guys. Thanks for all that you do, please keep doing what you're doing.

In my opinion Bates is the star of this podcast. The funniest , most reliable, most relatable and easily the most prepared. I could watch this pod with any of the others missing but if “Big Daddy Bates” is missing, so am I . God bless

I love how when Nate is gone Dusty essentially takes over and this turns into a bonus episode of the We're Having A Good Time Podcast. #DumpDusty #JKDontDumpDusty

As of Father's Day, I haven't heard a cicada yet in Springfield, Missouri! Looking forward to seeing Nate on June 28th for my 45th birthday! Guaranteed cicada-free.

Another great country dad song is "I'll be There" by Josh Turner.
Y'all are great dads and it's very sweet to see you all talk about being fathers.
We really want to go see Aaron when he was in Grand Rapids in April, but I started having prodromal labor with our 4th kid. Had I known the baby was not going make a swift entrance into the world, we might've still tried to come to the show.

I left this comment before I listened to episode #205. Dang! It's probably good that I'm just now catching up on these episodes otherwise I would've left my one month old baby at home to see Dusty and Nate at the B.O.B. in GR. That is a good song I recommended above, but don't take any other parenting advice from me😂.

Guys, I watched this episode on Saturday night before Father’s Day. I loved all the songs but Dusty’s song The Living Years by Mike & The Mechanics hit me like a boulder. I remember loving the song when I was a teenager but listening to it tonight after the podcast and remembering my Dad left me in tears. I’ve heard tears are simply unexpressed love and I’m grateful for your very real look at the sometimes complicated relationships we share with our Dads. I love this podcast and all 0:38 the laughs (& tonight the tears).
    Lea ❤

Loved it when Dusty suggests to pick some jokes that you could all do somewhere offline and use cuss words. Blackout nods, says nothing but CLEARLY is not remotely interested.. so subtle but so funny! I’m Australian so swearing (sorry, cussing) is like a competition for a lot of us.
Dusty - you gotta come to Australia and tell the dirty watermelon joke. Please.

Dusty's list of songs about dads was spot on! I just kept waiting on you to say Conway Twitty's "That's My Job", and completely agree it's #1! I'm going to have to listen to Dusty's playlist for some great music!

Unfortunately the song that reminds me most of my father is a horribly sad song about an absent father, "Father of mine" by Everclear. On the flip side"i'll follow your trail " by sean Rowe is a really sweat tearjerker that reminds me to slow down and enjoy time with my toddlers, it fills my heart to the brim when i hear it

I loved Dusty’s list! I was watching with my husband and our puppy (named Conway Twitty) and I kept wondering if you were going to include “That’s My Job”. When you said it was your number one I got up and high fived my hubs and danced with ole Conway lol 😂 We love your Spotify playlist too, Dusty! Great episode guys. 👍
One song I also kept thinking was “I Loved Her First”. Our daughter was recently married and this was their Father/Daughter dance song, so sweet.

dusty is absolutely right about hulk. hulk has only been used to show how strong other characters are, but they never justify his strength like they do in the comics.

I don't think I am alone in saying that the Natelanders need a Christmas album this year from the crew. The dulcet tones of Baritone Bates, Acapella Aaron, Singing Slay, and Nate the Note would be the perfect musical accompaniment to the holiday merriment. Keep up the great work, folks.
