Listening to Brian talk about taking swimming lessons reminds me what a lovable person he is. Such a humble sweetheart. Lucky Nate, to have Brian for a best friend.
I do love Nate’s over the top stories…texting Seinfeld, golfing with Timberlake, SNL. But Breakfast’s every day stories are the best! Asking a high schooler for autograph, stalking a woman with daycare bumper sticker, following a woman to hotel room (by mistake), and now swimming lessons. He may be worried but he speaks for us Folks!
I’m pretty sure Nate indirectly got me hired at my current job. During field work for occupational therapy school I bonded with my clinical instructor over Nate’s iced coffee joke because she got a coffee that was all milk. She contacted me after I graduated to tell me the company was hiring! We’ve now both seen Nate at live shows.
Hello! My name is Kenzie, I am from Cincinnati Ohio!! I absolutely love this podcast, I’ve been listening since the start!! My family and I recently traveled to Panama City Beach, Florida. We made friends with another family in the pool, and I asked them where they are from. The mom, Amber, answered me and said Opelika, Alabama. I got so excited and immediately asked “Do you know Dusty Slay?” She was so shocked and was cracking up saying she’s never been asked that before. She said yes she does know him, and not only know of him, but she was supposed to be his date to his senior prom!! I was so excited to meet someone who knew him personally and pestered her with more Dusty questions!! Just thought that was a fun story to share! I truly love this podcast, I count down the days until new episodes come out. I am a huge fan of each and every one of your comedy. Thanks for bringing wonderful comedy and fun conversations to us all!!
I am furious that Brian didn’t get swim lessons from Dusty. That would be unbelievably funny content. I mean, that could be an entire series on Nateland. And the finale could be the legendary swim contest we’ve all been waiting for. Thanks for the laughs fellas.
As a fellow 52 year old Gen Xer, born in 1972, I applaud Brian for taking a step out of his comfort zone to learn to swim. I also cannot swim and JUST had a conversation while on vacation with my wife last week that I think I’d like to take lessons and learn how. Congratulations to Backstroke Bates!!!
Brian, I teach swimming and I have taught many kids and a few adults. One hack I teach no matter the age is that to blow bubbles out of your nose, all you need to do is hum. Humming forces air out of your nostrils and is the easiest way to introduce swimming with your face in the water. I hope this helps!
What a great episode! Brian’s “Eagles song” joke around the word Lionize got completely overlooked and was a fantastic pull. Loved seeing Steven on the podcast!
Wednesdays are now my FUN days. I look forward all week to this podcast,, get my chores/errands done…so I can sit back, smile, and laugh. Always have a pen and paper to write down new comedians. Nice to meet Steven with his infectious laugh. Aaron’s laugh makes me ROLL! We adore you Brian. Nate, it goes without saying. You are my hero!!! How could you not be? Laughing is my favorite thing to do!!
I know right! Im a huge Dusty fan, but I also am a fan of them all. I watch every episode, regardless of whose on. Even the guests I don’t care for! I won’t name who they are 😂
Steven’s not the only one who loves Alice Cooper… There are some characters in my husband’s family. When I first met them , he informed me that when his aunt had gotten divorced, rather than switch back to her maiden name, she legally changed her name to Debbie Alice Cooper. She goes by ‘Debbie Alice’. 😆
An especially good episode. I really ADMIRE Brian; he is very funny and it gets a little under my skin feeling that he is underappreciated. He seems to be an innately gentle, decent, sweet soul. We all see you (no, I've received no compensation and am not related 😂). Nate has made me aware, in a way I never fully appreciated, of how much harder what you all do really is. I thought you wrote it, you said it, then hoped people laughed. That if you were naturally funny, it wasn't too hard. I appreciate and realize the actual artistry more than I have before.
As a fellow adult who is also just learning how to swin I'm so happy at how the guys alternate between cheering Billy Bob on and also making fun of him. True friends!
Oh, my goodness! I'm watching this on 7/18/24 to catch up - and it just popped up on my news alerts that Bob Newhart died!! Maybe it's not just at the original mention of the person but on replay if things were a no-go on the original airing. Yikes!
I always wondered why laughs are written as "haha"... and then I heard Steven laugh and it all made sense. Easily the most pronounced "hahaha" I've ever heard. I'm curious to get a straw poll from you all on who has the best laugh of the Nateland hosts.
Aaron is #1 for sure! His background giggles get me every time, especially when he’s laughing/trying not to laugh at Dusty’s ad reads 🤣 I’d put Mike James as my favorite guest laugh, and now Steven is rivaling for that top spot! A good laugh is just the best! 🥰
Absolutely love the pod, but the irony of reading about Bob Newhart’s passing *as Bite the Dust Bates was talking about him* only fuels Aaron’s conspiracy theory. Hope there’s a full investigation. 🧐
You guys joked a lot about Steven being a great hangout but if you base it off of this episode alone, Bugle Bates seems like the real hangout champion. Great jokes, fun stories, witty comebacks…good work today Bucket.
Speaking of swimming and pools. Reminds me of all that smack dusty talked about being a great swimmer...still havent seen it. You boys better hild him accountable. Dunk Dusty😂
Hello Folks and Hey Bear! I was fortunate to be able to attend Nate's show last weekend in St. Louis! We had looked forward to this show for many months, and it did not disappoint! However, the beginning of the show was pretty rocky! I've been a fan of the podcast for a long time, and I couldn't wait to see who the openers were! I was so pumped when Aaron came out on stage. Not only was he funny, but he also gave me the courage to do what needed to be done. My cousin and I were seated in front of a row of extremely loud and quite possibly intoxicated women. They would not stop talking, and we missed some of Dustin's jokes because they were so distracting. One of the women spilled her drink all down my cousin's back and then loudly remarked, "It's only beer"- I finally turned around and had my own "ENOUGH" moment. Thank you to Aaron for the laughs, and also for the fine example of how to keep people in check! They were quiet during the rest of the show and we were able to enjoy the Nate's comedy in spite of being slightly sticky and smelly from someone else's beer! Keep up the good work you do! We really do love you guys! It's not lost on us!
Love how many times over 3+ years you guys have had the A/C vs Heat, turn it up/down back cut it down conversation. It always feels like the first time. Btw, Aaron is 100% right with this one. However, when Nate says cut it down he also does a hand motion showing he means to turn down the temp.
Nate: G'day, mate. In case you didn't know, that's Australian for good day, friend. However, to our untrained ears, as Americans, it sounds like, “good eye might.”
Enjoyed the episode but I’m here to protest! #KEEPDUSTY. We want the ENTIRE crew. It’s so disappointing when Dusty or Nate is not here. It’s just not the same. Love you all but I have my pitchfork in hand as I scream we want Dusty! We want Dusty! 😂😂😂😂 also Hey Bear! 🐻
Dusty is so much fun but so are all the multiple guests. Steven Rogers did a great job and has a wonderfully contagious laugh. Nate, Brian and Aaron, I’m old enough to be your mom but I sure love all of you. if I was mom to any of you, I’d be blowing turkey gravy out of my nose every Thanksgiving. 😂😂
The Great Value version of Captain America was awfully confident saying he could beat Dusty in swimming. We’re going to need the Nateland Olympics to settle this officially.
The thought of Buoy learning how to float on his back in front of a bunch of 30-something year old Moms, and their 4-5 year old children, was almost enough to make me have to pull over the car while listening. Big props to him for getting out of his comfort zone, though, and learning such a critical survival skill!
What a fun episode and Steven was awesome! The comment made about crowd work is so true, I remember back in the early 2ks I would go to a lot of comedy shows in different spots in NYC with my girlfriends and they would put us near the front and we completely did not know what we were in for. We went to New York Comedy Club a few times and a few times the same comedian called me Vitamin C, some singer from the 90s because I had bright blond hair, first two times was funny then it became awkward. I sometimes wonder if I ever got to see baby Nate at any of those clubs back in the days. Anyway, thanks for the entertainment and keep up the great work folks!
I can't swim either. I have always been terrified of being thrown into a pool or a lake. I can tread water, but if my head goes under, I'm a goner! Good luck, Brian. Keep us updated on your progress.
Love it when they talk about Brian Regan. In my opinion he is the GOAT of stand up. Great memory of bringing my dad to his show about 20 years ago, and have never seen him laugh so hard, literal tears.
Must see TV: Brian swimming his first lap . Dusty vs Nate swimming. Brian and his daughter both riding a bike for the first time. Nateland crew moving Dusty's rocks on The Land Aaron watching Nate watch Shawshank
Excited to see the Chubbies sponsorship! My husband is a big "skys out thighs out" fan! He swears by their lined classic swim trunks as the most comfortable swim trunks ever and they look great. Love the podcast.
“Bad Luck” Bates strikes again!! He had 3 players on his wall that one point in there careers (or even now) people say they should be in the Hall of Fame. And not one of them made it to the Hall of Fame!!! Also, Nate, why do you like Scream? I love Scream. I memorized so well that when my kids turned 17 we watched it and I censored most of the swear words…I hate horror movies but I love Scream. Are there any movies you all love and don’t know why? Another for me is Ford vs Ferrari. I know all of this is won’t be read on the show just some thoughts sorry. I love the show
Brian, congratulations on starting swimming lessons. Have you watched the Will Forte and John c. Reilly snl “Swimming Lessons” skit? So hysterical. Love the podcast. Great break from my constant political podcasts… pls keep up the pod
I just did my first open mic and I didn’t know it was a 1 minute competition. I had to try and condense the 5 minute story I had planned down to 1. It did not go well. In the early days if/when you truly did terrible at an open mic, what was it that kept you going?
We went to Dusty's (sold out) show in Albuquerque Saturday night and it was Great! Saw Nate earlier this year in Albuquerque and he was hilarious as usual! Thanks for bringing cheer to New Mexico USA. Big fan of the Nateland podcast too, have watched all 206 episodes. Keep on making America laugh! Love you guys!
I really enjoyed Steven's joke/play on words involving Paul Revere and lanterns. The guy is obviously a top 15 hang. Nate mentioned going to the Minnesota State Fair. I think it's the best state fair in our grand republic. You can eat almost any food on a stick (even beer!). Can you guys rank state fairs? I'll go proofread this now.
Thank you very much for doing Nateland! I appreciate all of you. Brian, Aaron you two are super amazing! I have watched since episode 1. So many times i wished i could be there with you to make comments relating to the topic discussed. Nate, you are an fantastic guy. Thank you for bring laughter to the world. Love you 3.
Nate! You are my favorite ❤ my sister got tickets for my birthday to see you at Allstate Arena on Sunday night (june 30th) and we couldn't even get there because traffic was not moving. Many people couldn't make it to the show. Traffic was literally at a standstill trying to get to Allstate Arena.. we were in traffic almost not moving for 2 hours. feel like everyone should get a refund
On the way to see Nate in Rosemont last weekend my husband and I drove through McDonald's. He tried to order me a mcdouble with no pickles or onions and somehow the guy taking my order rang it up as a bun with ketchup and mayo. They took a really long time to get it ready, probably because they were confused. Eventually they asked what I wanted and then fixed it but there was a LOT of ketchup on there. Anyway, thought it was fitting that I had a weird thing happen at McDonald's right before the show. Really enjoyed Nate's show!
Dang, I named my son Dylan after Bob Dylan....but naming your kid Steven for that song?! I guess he should be happy it wasn't "A Boy Named Sue" by Johnny Cash!
Makes me happy to hear Brian is learning how to swim. I learned how to swim a at the age of 32. However, I can’t seem to figure out the whole floating on my back thing, every time I try, I sink like a rock and water up my nose, my husband finds is funny and taunts me while he easily flops on his back and floats away like a show off. 😒 Way to go Brian, it’s a great accomplishment!
I love how Steve made the joke about Breakfast training for a triathlon when talking about swimming and bike riding. If they would have showed Steve the video of Breakfast doing the 40, he would have quickly ruled anything out that involved running.
That's so funny - My wife and I argue about the "Turn up the AC/ Turn it down" meaning all the time. I was raised that turning the heat or AC down means you are changing the intensity of the operation. i.e. Turning up the AC means you want to make it colder and turning it down, means you don't want it as cold. My wife is the opposite. Up or down for her, relates to the temperature.
Talking about balance bikes, they are so great. When my son was 2 years old we got him a strider bike (balance bike). He walked around on it a couple days then he started picking his feet up for a second or two. After a couple weeks he was riding it around the house, balancing all the way. We then put him on a peddle bike and he peddled away immediately, at 2 years old (never once rode with training wheels). Such a great purchase for us and such an easy way to learn to ride a bicycle naturally. They basically teach themselves to balance naturally, and that’s the hardest part to learn about riding a bike. Definitely recommend anyone with younger kids (as young as 2 yo but any age really) to get a strider bike to teach them to ride and just to have fun on. Our son rode this strider bike for so many years until he finally got so big he couldn’t ride anymore so he donated to a younger family member. Our daughter learned to ride on a Strider as well so they are highly recommended from us (and no I don’t work for them or have any affiliation to the company, just love them because of how great they worked for us). Love the podcast guys.
I remember seeing bumper stickers that said "who shot J.R.?" I was a kid, and my parents watched the show, but I did not. I knew some things that were going on though ...I remember my friend telling me that Bobby had died, and she and her mom were so upset... It was a lonnnng summer for her and her family🤣
The big thing right now with Gen Z is the claim it’s easy to spot a Millennial because they’re wearing ankle socks, which are out now. Crew socks are now popular with Gen Z. But then you go to Gen X and they’re also wearing Crew socks but they’re wearing them with white New Balance shoes. What socks do each of you wear and does it match this generational belief?
Hello folks! Listening to Backstroke Bates telling about not knowing how to swim reminded me of my mom. In college she was required to take a swimming class (which was ridiculous since she was getting a degree to become an English teacher) and could not swim. In order to pass, she had to swim from one side to the other. She jumped in and went straight to the bottom and could not get up. The teacher had to jump in to save her and then got angry with my mom because she had gotten the teacher’s watch wet. She went ahead and passed my mom anyway. She was really impressed that you are learning to swim as an adult!
We listened to Alice Cooper and especially the "Welcome to My Nightmare" album a lot in high school and college. The whispering of Steven almost always got somebody weirded out.
Good lord! You guys are all wearing 5.5” Chubby shorts? Please make sure to always blur the screen after your we love you sign off. That must be an awkward few seconds when you all stand up afterwards.
I remember my dream job......professional Monopoly player. Gave it a shot back in the 70s, but was hard to make a go of it as a pro board gamer back then.
I've been an Architect for a decade and still can't afford healthcare and barely rent (paycheck-to-paycheck). I know too many architects leaving because none of us can make ends meet.
I agree with Nate but have had people younger than me compare e-sports to actual sports. Both are watched by a lot of people and some people are amazing to watch. Is a professional athlete a creator? At some point, turning the things you enjoy into your profession will ruin the thing you enjoy.
There's money to be made in esports, either by sponsorships or winning competitions. A lot of esports players retire in their mid-twenties, usually because they burn out on playing the game constantly. Also their reaction times decrease and it's hard to keep up with all the young players. Once they retire a lot of them turn to streaming where they can play with less pressure.
Gotta push back on Nate’s statement that gamers and streamers aren’t creators. The video game is the sport. The streamer is the competitor. They have to have skill worth watching live, and need to be entertaining on top of that. 😊
Has Bahama Mama Bates ever tried to grow a beard? Or is it just his rebellious nature to go against the crowd and rebel against the status quo and be the only crew member without one?
Thanks so much for having me on, It was so fun!
You were great man, hope they have you back on soon!
Yes it was! Thanks!
It was great to put a face with the name. It’s easy to see why Nate likes you.
@@flatcat_Jessica wow thank you so much!!
@@CTowens Thank you!! Hope so too!
Listening to Brian talk about taking swimming lessons reminds me what a lovable person he is. Such a humble sweetheart. Lucky Nate, to have Brian for a best friend.
I love how Nate and Aaron are wearing sweatshirts in the Summer in the south and then they complain about being hot😂
Is it me or is Bates getting funnier. Bandit is bringing the heat. Steven Rogers was a great guest.
Steven laughs in all caps 😂
😂😂😂
PERFECT description 😂😂😂 I read this comment before i heard his laugh and now when I hear it I hear HA HA HA HA HA! 🤣 I love it so much
I’m pretty sure Nate indirectly got me hired at my current job. During field work for occupational therapy school I bonded with my clinical instructor over Nate’s iced coffee joke because she got a coffee that was all milk. She contacted me after I graduated to tell me the company was hiring! We’ve now both seen Nate at live shows.
“My brother’s name is Pinball Wizard.” Gold!! And yet, it goes unnoticed.

Just picturing dusty scrolling thru these comments feeling super validated and loved
👏👏👏it’s easy once you learn the kicking!! And learning floating is great to because you can trust the water and not have many fears.
Steve's laugh goes between sounding like Greg Warren and Joker
If there is ever a 5th person added to this panel, please let it be Steven Rogers. He was a wonderful guest.
Word is he's a great hang too!
Wow! Brian you are so brave....and kudos for being motivated to be a better dad for your daughter!! Now that's manly!!! Judy
I like this guy. It was a fun one. Good hang
Steven has such a great laugh! Perfect for podcast

Having my comment read on my 15th anniversary and a few days before we’re going to see Nate was the cherry on top of a great day!
Aaron saying “They’re expecting you to be in a tank top” took me out😂
People who "can't watch" without Dusty are NOT real Nateland fans. SMH.
I know right! Im a huge Dusty fan, but I also am a fan of them all. I watch every episode, regardless of whose on. Even the guests I don’t care for! I won’t name who they are 😂

8:14 " i mean Aarons a giant... .... ...baseball fan". 😅

Bad News Bates!
Hey Bear. We got Captain America as a comedian today.
💪
My first thought too!
I’ll say what everyone is thinking…Steven’s laugh goes deeper than Dusty’s appearance ever could. #bringbackdusty
I do think it's funny that for all his theatrics Alice Cooper is a born-again Christian
You guys joked a lot about Steven being a great hangout but if you base it off of this episode alone, Bugle Bates seems like the real hangout champion. Great jokes, fun stories, witty comebacks…good work today Bucket.

“Rise Up Lights” with an American accent is how Australians say “razor blades.”
Oh my gosh thats amazing...I just said it too wow
Nate: G'day, mate. In case you didn't know, that's Australian for good day, friend. However, to our untrained ears, as Americans, it sounds like, “good eye might.”
When Nate was razzing Aaron about the zoo worker/ baseball player, Notre Dame alumni scenario, I was so tickled. 😂
😂😂😂😂 also
Hey Bear! 🐻
The best description of Aaron I’ve heard was a picture of Shane Gillis, Burt Kreischer and Aaron on Reddit and someone said he looks like Pre Malone.
I can see why Nate thinks Steven is a good hang, his laugh is the best! Every time listening and he would laugh it would make me laugh harder.
Dusty and Aaron should have done another hot chicken challenge next to a pool with Bunsen taking his first swim lesson in the background
The Great Value version of Captain America was awfully confident saying he could beat Dusty in swimming. We’re going to need the Nateland Olympics to settle this officially.
Also. Steve really does seem like a great hang.

Hello Folks!!! I am so excited I am one of the first few hundred to listen😂 to this weeks episode
#goals 😂 I can’t stay up or get up to do that. But I do try to be in the first 100 comments!
Hello Folks and Hey Bear

Nate came out hot murdering Aaron before the dad-gum show even started!
Excited to see the Chubbies sponsorship! My husband is a big "skys out thighs out" fan! He swears by their lined classic swim trunks as the most comfortable swim trunks ever and they look great. Love the podcast.
Steven's got a worried voice that would go great with Bourgeoisie's worried face
“Bad Luck” Bates strikes again!! He had 3 players on his wall that one point in there careers (or even now) people say they should be in the Hall of Fame. Turned on the podcast and feel asleep during the comment readings, next thing I knew Nate was in my dream 😂
At first I thought Steven was fake laughing, but then It kept happening, so it must be his real laugh.
stephen laughing so hard was hilarious love it
Brian, congratulations on starting swimming lessons. Have you watched the Will Forte and John c. Reilly snl “Swimming Lessons” skit? So hysterical. Love the podcast. Great break from my constant political podcasts… pls keep up the pod
Steven’s laugh sounds like it belongs to David Hasslehoff.
I just realized my comments are under my husband’s name. Ha. Don’t think my husband would put that you guys make his heart smile. This is Marilyn.
Comedy talk is what i wanna hear!! Did you ever work with John pinnete nate?? I’ve been dying to know. He is my favorite comic ever!
So I'm just now listening to this episode. Brian killed off Bob Newheart too?!
Never thought of it before but I suppose I would say crank up the AC if too warm and cut it down or off if it was too cold. Love you guys!
Love the hat Aaron Weber! #statefortyeight Come back in Jan to do your special! We’ll be in the front row.
Has Bahama Mama Bates ever tried to grow a beard? Or is it just his rebellious nature to go against the crowd and rebel against the status quo and be the only crew member without one?
How about skateboarding as topic one week? Come on, try it! -Mike Epps in NJ
Wild caught and humanely raised…which is it Butcherbox?? 😂
It is very necessary to hear Dusty Slay pontificate on Steven's Alice Cooper story.
Learning that Bates can’t swim is the least surprising thing I have ever heard of my life.
The “don’t tell” concept is like the SoFar shows for music… super cool
@brian the Australian phrase is Rise Up lights sounds like razor blades in Australian
I can’t wait till Eleanor and Ballerina start talking ballet and gymnastics together.
“His brother’s name is pinball wizard” got me.
