    Man, that was the best “how-to”
    do a waxed canvas project video I’ve seen. I made several pouches and little bags but I haven’t waxed them yet. After I made a couple I was asking myself why didn’t I wax the duck cloth first???...... I think my sewing machine would go through the material better, and applying the wax evenly has to be much easier! Thanks for sharing, and I really mean that... thank you!!!!!!!

    That's brilliant, definitely on my Imminent Project list! Regarding the corners, I always use (usually for collars etc) the thread method, gives such clean results. As you're sewing it up, you wrap a thread round the very corner stitch so that the thread ends are left inside. When you turn it out, you grab those threads and use them to pull out the corner. Gives fabulous results. You can thread it after you've sewn it, with a needle, but it's more awkward.

    Cool, helpful video. Info on beeswax vs. paraffin is very useful. Beeswax is 3X more expensive. I think I'm going to take my bar of beeswax that I bought today, and just rub it onto the surface of the canvas I bought today. Then just heat set it with hairdryer or heat gun. Im thinking now that I'll have to do both sides to get the penetration that you do in your videos.

      @@Dominic.Minischetti I think on a scale of 1-10, I’d give it an 8. A little labour intensive, but there was minimal waste because I waxed the pieces after I cut them. The heat gun scorched a bit where I got to close for too long, but it gives a bit of a patina. Probably much less mess than melting and brushing method.

      Well it’s pretty hot here, I’m in Florida. I haven’t had a problem. I would say my mix ( 90 percent paraffin and 10 percent beeswax) would start to melt at around 130 to 140 degrees. I hope that helps!

    Instead of reheating and blotting the extra wax OFF, wouldn't it be better to iron the material between 2 pieces of parchment paper and even the wax out. Just my thoughts. Waxed canvas loses wax over time with regular use. I would try to get it as saturated as possible. But great tutorial!

    • @Dominic.Minischetti
      @Dominic.Minischetti  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great idea brother! I have since modified my method. I now wax multiple pieces at a time. Anywhere from 3 to 6. This way the excess wax melts through the bottom layers and there is way less waste and blotting involved! It’s faster and more efficient! I never use an iron anymore! Thanks for watching brother, I appreciate it!

      I never had oil skin so I don’t know. But I have watched people make it. It’s a more complicated process than waxing. The waxed products I have made work well for me! Thanks for watching brother, I appreciate it!

      That’s an important step, it keeps it from getting stiff!

    Good video,
    But wouldn't it be easier to wax the canvas after you've made it into a bag?

      For me, it’s easier to lay it out and make the folds when it’s waxed first! Thanks for watching brother, I appreciate it!

      @@Dominic.Minischetti It definitely takes a fold better.

      @@H8FULL1 For sure! Plus the wax is evenly distributed. Especially where the cord goes through.
