    Great video! How did you figure out the proportion wax/paraffin? From what I've seen in other tutorials, 50-50% seems to work best. I have not tested myself yet but your proportions sound better since bees wax is more expensive than paraffin 😉. I do not have an extra iron so I will use some oven paper between the fabric and the iron. I also read that wax and paraffin have a quite low melting point so I will start with a lower temp first and see how it works... the idea is to melt it slower to give the wax time to absorb into the fibers of the fabric instead of seeping through on the towel if it melts too quickly, if that makes sense. Folding the fabric is a great way to save both wax and time 😉 Greetings from Sweden! 👋🏻👋🏻👋🏻

      Heyyyyy!! I actually make beeswax wraps that I use in the kitchen so I'm used to working with beeswax. I couldn't find a ton of TH-cam tutorials on waxing canvas so I went with what made sense even though I may try a few drops of jojoba oil next go round. I think it may make the fabric just a bit more pliable. I started cutting the WC for a bag I'm making and it feels just like the WC I've purchased. I'm excited to finish it up and actually use of.

      @@byGeorgeandmore Oh, please give some feedback if you try jojoba oil, I would like to know how it turns out. I will start my own "canvas waxing" journey following your proportions for wax and paraffin because the feel of purchased waxed canvas is what I am aiming for 😁 How do you clean the brush afterwards, I would assume just warm water to melt away the residue wax?

    One tip, cut out your pattern pieces first, then wax. It saves a bit on the wax needed. Occasionally I apply decovil light to waxed canvas, then rewax the top to restore the wax melted in the heat press.

    Loved your tutorial on WC. I have a few questions.
    1. Why do you need beeswax and paraffin?
    2. I only have lavender paraffin, do you think I can use that?
    3. What is a beeswax wrap?

    • @byGeorgeandmore
      @byGeorgeandmore  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Heyyyyy!! Based on the research I've done on waxing canvas, using beeswax helps adhere and soak into the fabric fibers. You should definitely try the lavender paraffin on its own and see how it turns out. Maybe just do a fat quarter. It wouldn't hurt to experiment. If you do it, let me know how it turns out. A beeswax wrap is what I like to use in the kitchen instead of single use plastic bags. I also use them for covering leftovers. And I've also sent dry snacks in them for my school age children.

    Hi. I might try this. I'm surprised how expensive waxed canvas is if you try to purchase from a website. I would think this would be more economical. I did just take a piece of canvas and applied Odicoat to it. It gives the canvas a nice sheen to it and its job is to waterproof the canvas. I did go through almost a whole jar to coat about 1 yard of canvas (with 2 coats). We'll see how the finished product works. I would like to ask you what is the make and model of the industrial sewing machine that is next to you in the video. I'm on the hunt for a new machine and there are so many to choose from, it can become rather confusing. Thank you.
