Get well mate, your a nice bloke, love all ya vids, cheers!!!I've been homeless for 33yrs,I've lived in doorway,tents,Bench's,Benders,trucks,cars,5yrs under a basher tarp, caravans, with horses on the road, home on me back, all year round, love the winters, without heating,I'm 62,at the moment I'm in a caravan on the side of the road behind a hedge, with me dog, I've had the best of life's,never will go in,you look after yourself, got heating with a wood burner for the first time , don't like it better outside, will get back out with me home on my back after this winter, here's to life outside.cheers!!!
I’ve watched loads and loads of your videos and I think this is the first time I’ve see. You without a hat of some sort I was confused at first 😂😂 Ps love the videos
Watching this for the second time. I have had AF since about 1982. If you get a reoccurrence, go directly to a big hospital's 'A& E / Casualty. Initially, I had my AF reset via the electric paddles (jump start) and several years later I went into AF again. Doing the right thing, I attended my GP Doctor rather than clutter up the hospital. By the time I got to see the specialist, he told me it was too late to reverse it. You can lead a pretty normal life with AF, I managed to work as a Prison Officer in Maximum Security and Extreme High Risk (two levels above Maximum Security) for nearly 20 years without too many problems (the Department were on a need to know basis, they didn't need to know, so I kept schtum about it). One thing I learnt when inspecting the sewing shops in gaols was to quickly put a neat crease in something you are about to sew, was to hold it stretched tautly and then 'break' it over the edge of the work table. Quick and very effective. Keep up the good work mate!
I know this is an old video, but thank you for giving me the push I needed all these years to go out and buy a sewing machine (bought today for $15 USD) and start making my own sacks. And fixing a pullover hoodie. Can't wait to make the wool blanket hoodie! Thanks again, Sir. 🍺
Great work. Also, as an NHS employee myself, we appreciate the positive feedback. We don't do our job for rewards or anything. But knowing someone has received great care, and had their life improved, is reward enough. Keep up the good work and enjoy the outdoors. I am enjoying catching up on your videos. Cheers.
Thank you - I love the NHS - it’s a strange thing, I don’t think I’d given it a second thought before I was plunged into a situation where I needed it! We are massively fortunate to have such a service in the UK! I thank you sir and I hope the NHS lives on to fix and help others for many years to come (as long as Donald Trump keeps his mitts of it that is! 😂)
Another suggestion : I have several pouches, for instance for my toilet items (toothbrush etc.), simply sewn from the sleeves of old shirts. Of course this is only possible when the pouch doesn't need to be as strong as the one you made in this video, but there are lots of uses . Saves work and makes good use of things you'd otherwise throw away.
Pants legs also makes great bags too , if what your carrying dont have to be water resistant. Basically all my cooking ingredients are in air and water tight containers, so anything will work that just keeps it together. Your idea on cooking items is great choice on material. Pathfinder has got a 48 oz coffee press , ive got ordered their 64 oz bottle will fit inside it , like their 32 oz bottle will fit in their 25 oz cup . They also have a new cup thall fit over the grayl bottle .
Happy you are well. I am 51 as of Jan. 21, and have spent the last twelve years fighting, at first it was my lungs, and now fighting to keep my legs. I love bushcraft, and even as I fight with my health and am now disabled as per the Canadian government, I am still getting out there as best I can. I attend university full-time, and many of my courses take me outside into the Canadian wilderness. Keep up the channel and best of luck with your health. Life has gotten better, despite? In spite of my health? Our health care here in Canada gets knocked as well, but I have spent barely a penny!!! Cheers fella!!!
Thank you! It always takes me by surprise when people are so critical of a state funded health system - I just don’t understand it - we are so lucky! Really glad you are still getting out despite you health issues - long may it continue sir! 😁
Brillant Simon ! Your pouches are very well made and inspiring. I like to sew waterproof and dirt proof pouches. I usually use regular cotton scraps from other projects an spread odicoat resin on it. just iron it with baking paper on top, and there you go ! Any cotton becomes waterproof. Ready to be sewn. By the way : I'm so glad you have recovered.
BEAUTIFUL, Simon! Late to the party, but enjoying your videos very much….so glad you fared so well after the health scare. I’m a new subscriber and love your videos. The pouch and your attention to detail are top-notch!💥💥 Thank you! PS….One of your blokes said he’s on a waitlist for a beautiful bow saw? Well, I said beautiful anyway!!
This video spurred me on to try sewing for the first time. The circumference of the circle and wall fabric size is important. Measure measure. Thanks for the motivation and information.
I know. I had a quadruple arterial bypass in 2008. In just 4 days I was back home, felt like a two year old and have never looked back. And I agree. I NHS is wonderful. Best of luck for the future and keep making you great videos.
Lovely pouch. Just trying to catch up with your videos. Had lots of commitments and no time. NHS is fantastic. Cured my cancer and keep checking me, also my triple heart bypass. Glad your well.
I myself was diagnosed with throat cancer back in June/July 2019 to which i still have a couple of months to see if the treatment was successful. But your Nhs statement is spot on and people are concerned with it's future but they must be more grateful, good to hear things are better for you.🤠👍
You could make a different one and sew a couple of loops on it and attach D rings. Then you can make or purchase a strap or adjustable strap and make a cross-body water bottle carrier. Nice video. I have made these pouches but never thought of the two-tone constrast and will make one.
Simon I lost my brother to cvd and my father too. I stopped alcohol and changed my diet/lifestyle and sorted out many ailments that I had. I hope you are taking care of yourself as the operation is not a complete cure, it can happen again if you dont watch what you put in your gob.
Simon, good to hear you had the arrhythmia sorted, working in Cardiology in Wales, I know what you've gone through with the many tests, medication and procedures for AF. I was looking for an idea how to tackle a bag for my Silky Bigboy, and I came across your videos and they are superb. True inspiration, thank you.
Cheers Glenn! Glad you’ve enjoyed the videos and found some inspiration from the pouches! Yes, the AF was a real pain in the backside!! But 3 or 4 months down the line from my Ablation, I’m a new man! I had my 3 month post op assessment and the Doctors are pleased with how things have gone - I’m off most of my meds, and life is pretty much back to normal! Medical science never ceases to amaze me!! Alb, Simon.
I’ve been watching a lot of your past content recently where you had made mention of your heart. I’m really glad to have stumbled upon this particular video to hear that you had an operation and that it was such a success. I’m very happy for you even if it is a bit late! Keep up the good work Simon 👍
Hi Simon, greetings from sunny Malaysia. Have been a long time subscriber to your channel but only just found this one you posted back in the good old pre-pandemic days of 2017. Absolutely brilliant my friend . In fact I was looking for the camp kitchen utensil roll one you did when I found this one ! I recently bought my first sewing machine as a result of that camp kitchen roll video with the intention of making one. Having now learned how to use my sewing machine and patched up the knees on a lot of my jeans, I now have the confidence to venture forth and start on the kitchen utensil roll and the round draw bags having bought the materials to do these. Looks like I have you to thank for keeping me busy in the coming few weeks making pouches and bags for my outdoor gear and some add on side pouches for my Fjallraven Singi Stubben as no-one seems to have them in stock. Stay safe and keep the videos coming :-)
Oh my goodness I didn’t know you were very poorly, I’m so glad everything was a success 😊. Excellent idea, like you say the list is endless and so satisfying making them yourself. I’ve recently started camping in my car so I made templates for my windows and made insulated window screens so helps with privacy and keeping the warmth in 😊. Will have a bash at this, I too love the colour contrast and the sound of that material. Thank you 🙏
+GoFeesh 85 - Thanks! Yes, I consider myself very fortunate! Glad you like the pouches - they aren’t too difficult to do - even by hand. Cheers mate, Simon.
Welcome to the zipper club. For those that don't know, when they open up your chest to get at the heart, there is a scar left behind. They used to use stitches or staples that left the scar looking like a zipper. I had a triple bypass about 4 years ago now.
The NHS is great for cancer and heart problems and now COVID but for other issues it is not so good, saying that I think it is a great service and we are very lucky to have it. Glad you got your heart sorted and thanks for the great videos..just wish I had a workshop/space like yours. Thanks again xx
I love working with waxed cotton: it behaves so well and looks so good. Apart from a now very complicated knapsack I'm planning on making (too much thought before starting...and now to daunting.), I'd run out of ideas. Thanks for this- all cylindrical objects will be encased!
I suffer from this problem... (too much thought and then it's too daunting). My solution is to think about it even more.. but to make it simpler so it's less daunting :) I have a lot of unfinished projects
+Martin Outdoors69 - Thanks Martin. I’ve always been grateful of our health service, but until now have never REALLY needed at a more serious level. Number one fan here!
I am glad your operation was a success! These pouches you make are awesome. I do not have a sewing machine nor am I proficient at sewing but I would like to make something similar for my cook set. Great job, keep up the good work.
+North Country Adventures - Thank you! Glad you like the pouches - they are not to difficult to make - just take your time, mark out everything and be systematic - and remember if it goes a bit wrong, you can always unpick and start again! Good luck! Atb, Simon.
Bit late to the party but delighted to hear that you got your heart sorted. That must have been a big worry. Love your channel. It's become my go to here in France, so thanks for all the great content. It really is appreciated! Tony
Simon, I am so delighted to hear that your procedure has gone so well. Isn't it amazing how fortunate we are to live in a time and place where such health care exists? I really enjoy what you are doing with your videos, particularly the water travels. Thank you for such inspiring pieces. Continued good health to you and many, many more happy years of sharing the good things in life.
+Donald Paulson - Thank you Donald, I’m really pleased you are enjoying the videos! To be honest, I really enjoy the canoeing ones too - the river is such a calming and cleaning place to spend time. We really are very fortunate, medical science has come a long way!- I didn’t really appreciate it until now! See you on the next one! Atb, Simon.
Oh Simon, i am glad to hear that your operation was a success. It is weird, because this year there were also three health incidents among German youtubers. Damn! Okay, back to the video ... thanks for sharing this tutorial. I love these waxed canvas pouches and i think i will try it to make one of them. The two different colors looks very good. Thumbs up! Greetings from Germany. Azze
Buschpirat - Thanks Azze! Yep, all good with the operation and I’m recovering well - I’m itching to get out in the woods!!! Glad you like the pouches - they are quite simple to make - the base is the only tricky bit - you need to make sure the width of the side piece (the rectangle) is the same as the circumference of the base where it is stitched - if that makes sense?! The rest is a breeze! Good luck with it my friend! Atb, Simon.
You all prolly dont give a damn but does any of you know a way to get back into an instagram account? I stupidly lost my login password. I love any tricks you can give me
@Moshe Houston Thanks so much for your reply. I found the site through google and I'm waiting for the hacking stuff atm. Takes a while so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Love the N.H.S. without it myself, my wife and by extraction my brilliant son would not be here. Lets hope it survives. Anyhow, love your vids Simon, thanks.
So glad to know you are ok Simon. Totally agree with you about the NHS. I've just come out of hospital myself. Gall bladder stones removed and a huge infection cured. Anyway. Glad to know you are alright my friend. . All the best.
Knucker - Thanks Al! All went really well - feeling good and been back to work this week. Glad you like the bag - I’ve been making a few lately - I really like the vintage look of them. 👍 cheers mate, Simon.
Or if you put duck tape the end making like a ‘lace’ and thread it threw. And if you don’t want the finished edge of a ‘lace’ then cut the end and seal it as usual.
Praise God you’re procedure went well! Fantastic diy tutorial! Once I’m done with school I will be learning these types of crafts, especially with how expensive the punches are to buy from another maker. Loved that 2-tone!! Cheers brother!
+AG Survival - Thank you! On the mend. It’s a nice little project to do, for me, it’s the enjoyment of making my own gear - they become more important to me and I get more satisfaction out of using them. The cost does help too!! 😉 Atb, Simon.
Another awesome instructional video from the renaissance man!! Well done Simon!! I have to order me some waxed canvas, and bet that old sewing machine going, or maybe yet, use my Grandmothers tredle foot powered Singer, I'm sure it will be easer to get running than the electric one I have . In the mean time I bought a nice 9 oz veg tanned quarter of leather and have been busy making all new sheaths for all my hatchets and axes, Very satisfying if i do say so myself! Oh yea, im excited , my Opinel #8 should be arriving any day, im very excited about that little gem of a knife! Thanks to you!
I started putting the drawstring in as a sew the hem. The foot keeps it in place. If you want to see me go ballistic, it's trying to get paracord around with a piece of wire. Great vid! I got lazy and just used the legs off a pair of trousers... yours sure look nicer.
+Albert Jones - Thanks Alb! Definitely getting better - the problem is as I feel better I want to do more stuff - I’ve got to keep myself in check! Glad you enjoyed the video mate, cheers, Simon.
When sewing a circle, it is easier to reangle the fabric when you lift the foot while the needle is down. Hope you understand what i mean ;) I enjoy your videos and i like how you keepin it real! Thank you and stay healty!
Thanks Hans! Yes, that is my normal method, it’s always tricky sewing a circle onto a straight edge! I’m really glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for watching! Atb, Simon.
+Yaseen Esprit - Thank you! Recovering well! 👍 it’s a nice little thing to make and doesn’t take too long. I really like the vintage look of waxed canvas. Cheers, Simon.
Great bit of handiwork, adaptable as you say, to all sorts of uses. Great to see you looking so well after the repair work - nice to know we'll all be enjoying your videos for some time to come! Have a great 2018 & I look forward to seeing the occasional extract from it!
Cheers Peter! Yes, amazing how quick the recovery period was!! I’ve made a whole load of these pouches now - the problem is knowing where to stop! I’ve even made a bag to contain bags!! Atb, Simon.
+Michael - Thanks Michael! Hope she’s well now! Norwich would have been handier for me, but they aren’t set up to do the procedure I had at the NandN yet - so Barts it was - bloomin amazing hospital though! The cardiac unit is brand new. 👍
+detector ken - Thanks Ken, couldn’t sit around on me backside, thought I’d rest by doing something! Light duties only for a bit though!! Atb mate, Simon.
My husbands operation in Norway was not a sucssess they did to litle so did not remove all and it came back later bad and they tryed manny things like jumpstarting heart to restart heart rythm now they have given up and my husband goes with constant iregular heartbeat and uses meds morning and evening to lessen the symptoms. Good thing it worked for you and that they burned away all they needed
Well done Simon glad the op went well it'll be good to see you out and about on future vids. I'm new to your channel and I have been really enjoying watching your adventures especially the ones with Maggie.
+smd529 - Thank you! I’m getting better with each day, so won’t be long before I’m back in the woods!! Really glad you’ve enjoyed the channel so far! Atb, Simon.
By the way, I've noticed the cord on your knife and was wondering what knot you use. I don't know if I've missed it on one of your vids. I've noticed it's the same knot that Mike from MCQ uses on his zipper pulls.
smd529 - it’s called a snake knot or snake weave - there are a bunch of tutorials on TH-cam - I quite like it - it’s smaller than the usual weaves you see on bracelets etc. 👍
Hi Simon, sorry to hear about the operation buy truly glad it all went so well, you look good on it mate. Another quality video, many thanks for sharing. I'm building up the courage to ask my wife whether I can use her sewing machine, i'm not holding my breath though, lol. Thanks again Simon, ATB, Paul.
+Paul Embling - Cheers Paul - glad you enjoyed it mate. You’ll have to just wait til she goes out - and buy a few spare needles to replace the ones you’ll inevitably break! ( I get through loads!!) Atb, Simon.
I realize this was 5yrs ago. But I am glad you are well.
Love your ideas on the wax canvas kit pouches. They look awesome. Thank you for sharing.
I’ve watched loads and loads of your videos and I think this is the first time I’ve see. You without a hat of some sort
I was confused at first 😂😂
Ps love the videos
I love your DIYs. They motivate me to craft not buy!
Watching this for the second time. I have had AF since about 1982. If you get a reoccurrence, go directly to a big hospital's 'A& E / Casualty. Initially, I had my AF reset via the electric paddles (jump start) and several years later I went into AF again.

I just watched your videos explaining your surgery, I'm very happy the issue was resolved and so quickly!
I know this is an old video, but thank you for giving me the push I needed all these years to go out and buy a sewing machine (bought today for $15 USD) and start making my own sacks. And fixing a pullover hoodie. Can't wait to make the wool blanket hoodie! Thanks again, Sir. 🍺
Thanks Simon, just made a set of one big and three small pouches for my zebra billy. Really pleased with the pattern :)

+OKBushcraft - Thanks, I’m mending well! Glad you like the bags. Atb, Simon.
Great skills and delighted to hear your health issues (which I didn't know about) have been successfully dealt with 👍
Thanks Stuart! Yes, modern medical science is a wonder!! I was in and out of hospital within 24 hours and I feel like a new man now! Atb, Simon.
Nicely done

I save all your videos where you are making item's keep it up

Really happy to hear about the success of the operation mate.
+werxeh - Thank you! Its a relief, and quite amazing how quickly you recover from what was once seriously major stuff! Cheers, Simon.

I love any tricks you can give me
@Kaiden Jorge instablaster :)
@Moshe Houston Thanks so much for your reply. I found the site through google and I'm waiting for the hacking stuff atm.
Takes a while so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
@Moshe Houston it worked and I now got access to my account again. I'm so happy!
Thank you so much you saved my account!
Fantastic, really enjoyed that, who knew I liked sewing!
Can’t beat a bit of needle work! I sound like my Grandmother!! Cheers Andy. Simon.
Im very late to your back catalogue si, but im chuffed you got sorted pal. Well done.
Brilliant! What a talented person you are.
Love the N.H.S. without it myself, my wife and by extraction my brilliant son would not be here. Lets hope it survives. Anyhow, love your vids Simon, thanks.
Great job on the pouch!
Thank you Jerry! Atb, Simon.
So glad to know you are ok Simon.
Totally agree with you about the NHS. I've just come out of hospital myself. Gall bladder stones removed and a huge infection cured.
Anyway. Glad to know you are alright my friend. . All the best.
Glad you’re all fixed Keith! Good old NHS. 👍👍
Beautiful kit. Love it.
+LoaferXcursions - Thank you very much - glad you like it. 👍 Atb, Simon.
Hi Simon, I'm glad to hear that all went well and the op was a success!
I like the bag. Very nice.
All the best
Al
Knucker - Thanks Al! All went really well - feeling good and been back to work this week.
Glad you like the bag - I’ve been making a few lately - I really like the vintage look of them. 👍 cheers mate, Simon.
Glad you're on the mend and good video.
Wow after all this time enjoying your videos I never knew about your health issue. Hope your doing well and really do love the content that you share.
Safety pin will work better than a bit of wire👍❤️
Another fab video, inspired to make one of these myself once i get a sewing machine
Congratulations, 👍👍👍👍👍
Well done! Cheers mate!
I started putting the drawstring in as a sew the hem. The foot keeps it in place. If you want to see me go ballistic, it's trying to get paracord around with a piece of wire.
Great vid! I got lazy and just used the legs off a pair of trousers... yours sure look nicer.
I have AFIB and CHF. I'm glad you're ok!! Scary thing to have. Wish you continued good health!!
That is fantastic, you make it look so simple to make!
theboss2010able - Thanks, glad you liked it! Atb, Simon.
Very, very satisfying! well, done.
very, very well said, NHS is the best. glad you are ok
Thank you!
Nice job - I shall have to give it a go provided ER Indoors lets me near her sewing machine. Good to hear all went well with the op. Dave
Cheers Dave! Yes, very lucky to have the NHS! I’m sure you could talk her around, otherwise a stealthy night-time sewing mission? Atb, Simon.
Great job 👍. Gonna make a couple of these for my zebra pots 👍🙂. Thanks for the film
Nice one.
+charles foster - Cheers Charles! Glad you enjoyed it! 👍
Glad to see you are doing well
Thank you! 😁
Great video... Love the concept glad you're doing well...
Very nice work!
Thanks Martin! Atb, Simon.
Fantástic... ❤
Glad to see you bank Simon
Thank you David! Atb, Simon
Try using a saftypin to pull your cord through with , smoother than bent wire
Neat and useful project Simon great to see are well on the mend mate atb. Alb
Hope you understand what i mean ;)
I enjoy your videos and i like how you keepin it real! Thank you and stay healty!
Thanks Hans! Yes, that is my normal method, it’s always tricky sewing a circle onto a straight edge! I’m really glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for watching! Atb, Simon.
I bet there are some brilliant meticulous surgeons in the UK. Good it all worked out.
Are the surgeons a bit slapdash where you live? 😅🤣😅
glad you are ok great video will have to try that thank you
+Yaseen Esprit - Thank you! Recovering well! 👍 it’s a nice little thing to make and doesn’t take too long. I really like the vintage look of waxed canvas. Cheers, Simon.
Good to hear AF sorted. Brilliant video, well clever. Good man. Dave :-)
Cheers Dave! Atb, Simon.
Great sewing tips, thanks.
Cheers Ross! Atb, Simon.
Making this as we speak mate. Good work.
Atb, Simon.
Nice.
The Mrs had a heart ablation on the NHS for Wolf Parkinson Whites disease at Norwich. As you say NHS is brilliant.
Good to see you back 👍🏻
+Michael - Thanks Michael! Hope she’s well now! Norwich would have been handier for me, but they aren’t set up to do the procedure I had at the NandN yet - so Barts it was - bloomin amazing hospital though! The cardiac unit is brand new. 👍
Nice to see you back Simon, you are looking well pal, enjoyed the video once again keep it up, when you out next.
+detector ken - Thanks Ken, couldn’t sit around on me backside, thought I’d rest by doing something! Light duties only for a bit though!! Atb mate, Simon.
congratulations and have a fantastic&healthy NewYear!!
Thank you very much! And a very Happy New Year to you too!
Nice video mate, happy you feel good. TIP fir you, pass the paracord when it’s still flat. Easier in a straight line and not in the way if the sewing
Thanks for sharing Simon, I’ve just managed to get my first sewing machine 👍🏼👍🏼
Cheers Simon.
Excellent tutoriL!!
Well done matey, glad your op worked out ok and thank you for you r good quality instruction and insights. Cheers
+FlashPan73 - Thanks buddy! Glad you enjoyed the video! 👍
Hi Simon,
sorry to hear about the operation buy truly glad it all went so well, you look good on it mate.
Glad you are well Simon, NHS does sound good! here in Oklahoma they'd let me die probably😉
Off to buy canvas. Damn this looks fun! Dusting off the machine from the shed. 😂
