Some albums can absolutely be judged by their cover. You just see it and get a certain energy! I used to go into a used record shop and random select something new to take home every week. I consistently found nothing but gems. Now here on TH-cam, we've got yet another perfect example.
Fuckin rights man
I do the same thing! I go to charity shops and buy records because the cover appealed to me. I've found some amazing and surprising finds!
@@eleanortalbot1316 i do the same with cds! i sift through all the Christian and Christmas music and find titles i recognize, and pick up a few that just look cool as well. sometimes they are a hit, sometimes a miss. its ok either way though bc they are 25 cents!
Intuitions a blessing !
i always guess the genre based on album covers when i don't know the artist, and i'm always right.. this makes sense because genres and styles usually have their own aesthetic associated with it.. it's how i knew listening to Mint Jams by Casiopea was gonna be a great idea (and it was) or why i listened to Cat Steps by Daisuke Tanabe...

He really did his way, I just read a litle material about Mr Sellers on Stuff . His first drum kit was a set of Ludwigs bought from the dairy owner across the road by his parents, who did so on the condition he work off the outlay by doing odd jobs. RIP ROGER SELLERS

Why does 70s era drum recordings sound so damn crisp and clean? It's like this era perfected the mic setup on the kits methinks. Perfect balance of punch, separation, compression, etc. Solid mix.
I often think that. The sound is warmer and crisper. I reckon it's the instrument and recording gear, maybe the booth aswell
Good saturation from preamps, consolle, natural tape compression and very heavy dumping on drumheads
less compression
I've been binging a lot of 70s funk especially Japanese stuff. Seen this feeling mentioned in almost every video and it's something I noticed myself so I assume everyone must see it. It's crazy how far the technical talent has degraded.

Working between Pennsylvania and New Jersey, Hokanson was a talented illustrator for magazines and books, as well as a painter and wood engraver. HOKANSON also...
Also what?
I knew that the leopard running loose through the city could only mean good things were in store... This album strikes me as being rather unique in the way it integrates elements from psychedelic and progressive rock. That really gives the album a stranger and more intriguing texture than what I typically expect from funky jazz fusion bands.

FANTÁSTICO! ... Jazz-Rock fusión de tan gran calidad en la ejecución que alegra el alma de quien le escucha!
This whole record is ridiculous. Not only is the musicianship world class, but the production and engineering is outstanding. Aside from the Horns being a bit too hot for my ears the mix is really good too. 20:47 that’s the sound right there Rhodes & Phaser.. fucking gorgeous! And the Bass! Goddamn that’s some muscle. You can’t get that going direct, that’s the sound of a speaker jumpin out of a cabinet. 22:39 that transition into the next section I had to listen to a couple times... unbelievable! Interesting timing on that beat too how they cut off half a beat on the second measure and start over on the and of 4. And then the solo section that follows, they’re communicating on a level that is far beyond normal comprehension. Some bad dudes right here, easily the best Jazz Fusion band Britain has ever produced.
Yes!
#AlienFunk
That timing where it cuts is called a 7/8 signature.
The first measure is a 4/4 then the second is a 7/8
The drums on here are just something else
The cover just has that crazy vibe I had to click and Splat was definetely a highlight!! I wonder what people thought about this type of music back in the day
I’ve been collecting vinyl since the early 90s. The way I would choose what record to listen to was based on the cover. I didn’t know what I was looking for. That’s what I love about music and art. It’s constantly populating and evolving.

I was born in 95 in Germany and there was a lot of NYC hype going on in pop culture, art, comics, television and music. By now I understood New York's History from the 60s, 70s and 80s and how things could end in said scenario that is a myth to most people.
