The only advantage youtube has over spotify or other services like it are users like you who upload music I didn't know I needed until I listened to it.
Do you have any favorite TH-cam music channels? Captain Beefart is pretty cool.
I've been telling people to ditch Spotify and just get TH-cam Premium for the music for precisely the reason you've just given
Comments help. Spotify is missing out.
What's wrong with spotify?
Well, also that most songs have lyrics with them in YT Music, and you can switch between the music video and audio-only. ;) I hated YT Music at first because I was so in love with the original Google Music app, but once I realized they had all the videos and lyrics in the app to every song... I am hooked now, lol.

Japan in the '70s seems like it was a cool place
70s 80s and 90s Japan was always cool, same with america tbh
nah ya been saying old days are cool but the fact is cool things keep cool, there’re still corny shit exist before
japan always been cool, yo...
Still was back in 2018 brother.
Dude, everything was better in the 70s
When I was stationed at the Navy base in Yokosuka, Japan, a friend and I would go to Yokohama to a jazz bar on an off weekend and enjoy a great dose of Japanese jazz. It's one of my fonder memories of that place.
Dude that's awesome!
When we pulled into Yoko we went to the Tokyo tower and there was a really great live Jazz band playing there. one of my greatest memories of deployment
Thank you for your service! That seems like a beautiful memory.
Japan has like a unique version of jazz.
Come to think of it they just have a unique brand of everything music wise.
The honch didn't provide this great vibe....will have to check out Yokohama or Shibuya next trip there...former FC here still working those ships!
First time listening to Japanese Jazz and it just hit different. Nothing like I've heard before in Western Jazz. The Japanese sure are unique in a lot of ways.
They dedicate themselves to their craft - its part of their cultural pride. As such many things that are from Japan are near perfection.
They seem to do everything well.

Welcome to an amazing rabbit hole worth getting lost in.
I would like to call that "adding their own unique take on the genre"!
The start of the drum solo on take five blows my fucking mind. Who the fuck is this drummer?! He's a legend and these rolls are insane.
The first track makes me want to wear my finest black shirt and make cocktails.
Its called take five. enjoy
Polnarefu
The original is by Dave Brubeck and his wonderful Quartet. This version is a tad bit faster than the original, still amazing though. It got its name by taking five "takes" (takes being the number of attempts at recording a song) in the recording session, hence Take 5. It's also I believe one of it's first to be recorded in 5/4ths time.
Sometimes I feel like opening TH-cam at 3AM is a huge mistake.
Some other nights, however, I feel thankful I skipped out on getting a good night's sleep and decided to open TH-cam, because how else could I have found this?

Nice

everyone around the planet knows take five
@@HoolsSteam I have no clue who or what they/it is.. Take five?
@@1ninjawun1 Take Five is a jazz song first recorded by the Dave Brubeck group. Written by Paul Desmond, the sax player in the band. It is in 5/4 time. Songs with the beat in 5 were not common. Still not very common,

Who needs energy drinks when you can feel the groove of this music build up in your veins?
Exact :D
Why is all this Japanese funk all A-1 fucking amazing top shelf gold !!!!!!!???????? BONZAIIIIIIII. NINJAZZ !!!
Because there's a space in Japanese culture for obsession, so the guys that get really into stuff go HARD
because they are so competitive by nature that they would be ashamed to make anything that was considered low quality even if they could make quick money they always sacrifice speed for quality.
Man it is hard not to get fixated on what the drummer in the first track is doing on the toms, but then, just give it a second and you hear heal-toe's an cheeky triplets on the the high-hat and it comes together masterfully. Oh lord!
TH-cam Algorithm has done some good work for me recently, loving this so much
Same dude! So stoked. I haven't listened to jazz in months. Must have suggested it to me cuz I've been listening to Green by Hiroshi Yoshimura. Please do yourself a favour and search that album up if you haven't already. So peaceful. Give it at least 20 minutes before deciding if you like it. It's my favourite album to wake up to. Cheers
@@dominic6967 I have to admit, I skipped a lot. That is sadly a bit too calm and chill for me :/
I like the music with a bit more pep to it, ya know? Bit of Funk, Jazz, Japanese City-Pop and so on :D
If you haven't yet listened to it, I can recommend this one here instead: th-cam.com/video/O-28qkBb0H8/w-d-xo.html
Hmm its so weird to hear Take Five at the beginning, tho the tempo is slightly different and the focus seems to be the piano and not the saxophone, really creative!
Holy crap.. i feel like i was about to die of thirst in the desert and found an oasis.. just amazing, now i cant stop replaying this!
Curious how progressive music lovers find jazz music so freaking awesome
The beginning is take five, but some how it definitely has that Japanese jazz feeling to it.
Love how this starts w a take 5 take. Always a groovy transition to the funkiness from whatever I'm listening to prior . Save the best for last
that Take Five just hit me in the face
totaly agree : my ears are bleeding, this was so bad ^^
@@DrKub007 It's a matter of taste I think. I really like this version, too - but I'm able to understand why not everyone does like it as much as I do. Technically, this isn't 'bad" - it just does not fit your preferences in musical realisation.
@@tobiasmay2693 interpretation is something one can learn, they obviously had not this teaching, for straight binary rythm the drumer would do the job, but he s totaly unable to shuffle or groove anything, and i really feel no connection between the musicians here, it s like they play in separate rooms and can t hear each other
@@DrKub007 In my opinion "straight binary rythm" matches the tempo and feel of this version quite good. It's impulsive, which I like.
You sure are right about the fact, that he doesn't groove too much and that the musicians are playing more "against" each other in this version.
Interpretation does mean that everyone adds his own musical layout - if it's straight binary drumming, that's a kind of Interpretation.
It doesn't mean, this version is bad - it does mean that it just isn't the right one for you, which is totally okay.
There are many versions of this song, this is clear. You don't have to argue why it's bad - it's a subjective view. Music has no "right" or "wrong", no "good" or "bad". There isn't ONE best version, there are many - individual ones.
In the end it's simply "you like it or not". You obviously do not enjoy this version, which is okay - why then take other people the fun to hear this version by saying it is bad though?
That Brubeck sure sounds good translated into Japanese...
Holy youtube's algorithm :)
DAMN... that transition to the funked out bassline at 5:50 was so satisfying.

This high BPM version of Take Five is exactly what I need right now.

I'm glad the algorithm brought me here 😀
Hearing a Japanese person skat is one of the cutest things I've ever heard
Sounds like the sort of thing a salesman would have put on to demonstrate the very top of the range 1970s Japanese hifi equipment (this is a compliment BTW).
Yes it does! Excactly! I took it as a compliment at first read.
Japanese drummers are one of the two best in the world!
essential to a balanced breakfast. happy jazz giving everyone
How lucky we are to have this.
I used to listen to this with my grandma in 1990s. Nostalgia
wow, seriously?
that must be very sweet memory
This shit slaps on an entirely different level
Those ghost notes on the second song are from another dimension.
I love the japanese style on Funk and Jazz of the 70s, the rhithm section is always in first position well ordered and keeps the timing to be always clear what happens to your hears, all the instruments are perfectly audible never confusing, making the sound float in a empty space. Vinyl records are incredibly high in quality and even if 50 yrs old don't give chances to CDs, so? love love love!
I like your description, but what does first position mean? :)
sorry for my poor english, i meant that's in relief @@ALLrobotsAreSad

Aside ALL the musical thing, What amazes me more is the legendary japanese Record quality! How can It be sooooo good?!
starting with take 5 was a bold choice, and I respect it
Japanese jazz, especially from the 70s, is food for the mind and soul. It combines decadence with wisdom, which really are two facets of Japanese culture. Can't get enough of this music!

That shamisen/koto(?) on track 4 blew me away. Traditional Japanese instruments in jazz fusion? How have I not heard this before?!?!
it's just Shamisen. Jazz fusion has been a thing since Jazz was introduced in Japan
What a great and fun version of take five; that drummer is the shit! This is such a cool mix of music!
