I have a 2007 Mazda 3 I. 2.0 liter engine. Problem: gas pump would shut down repeatedly when filling the tank with gas. Then, once fueled, it would be hard to start the engine and it ran rough once started. Eventually, the engine would run normally. Changing the purge valve today appears to have solved the problem. Great video. Much appreciated.
Did you get bad fuel mileage when the purge valve was bad?

What kind of problems are we expecting here? Just bought a 2010 Mazda 3 a week ago, filled up completely for the first time yesterday and I see a CEL today. Used an OBD2 and saw the codes P0442 and P0455 but no other issues while driving. Trying to diagnose if it’s an issue with the purge solenoid valve
This part did fit my 2009 Mazda 3 perfect . And the engine light went off right away thank you I couldn’t find this part anywhere. Was getting a system to lean bank 1 and this was the problem.

It was a bit of a "twist and tug" to get the front hard plastic tubing off of the valve, but it did come off without damaging anything.

Thanks for the clip. I ordered that part for my Mazda 3 2006 and I just swapped it out today. It was not as easy to get out as you made it look but I didn't break anything, and the car starts. Now I just have to do the full tank test (this time with a passenger to help me push start it if it still doesn't start on a full tank).
Thanks for the video. I have a 2008 Mazda 3 2.0 with code P0455 large leak, the canister purge valve part number is 90910-TC001. There may be different ones out there, and mine look different.
I have not a clue about cars but my check engine light kept coming on & it gave me a diagnosis code concerning the purge valve. No idea what it does, no idea why I need it so I googled it & this video came up. Seemed easy enough so I ordered the exact part & changed it myself. Never been more proud of my self lol.

@@mbirdie12 Had trouble starting only after filling the gas tank, as if the engine was flooded. No problems while idling or running normally, so ruled out a fuel pump issue.

Great Vid. Mine had an intermittent failure of the solenoid. It seems to open and close normally. But after a couple of cycles it get's stuck in the OPEN position.

Wow I could have done this myself. I don’t even fix cars but I would have figured it out. Sears charged me $355 to change this and a replacement gas cap. Labor included. I could have saved $300 if I did it myself. Now I know TH-cam anything that goes wrong with my car in tie future. Thanks for the video you made this so easy.

Hey what the name of the valve on the top of the valve cover? I went and bought the pcv valve but that's not it . Whatever hose that is , its sending oil into my intake. 2005 mazda 3 2.3 thanks

what do you think is wrong with mine? i have no codes. i just bought the car and hooked up scan tool did live data... with the car running or the car is off but key on my reading is off the chart. scan tool says evap system vapor pressure is -1300. range it should be is -.35-50 do you think i have a leak or blockage some where? thanks

My son's car (Mazda 3 - 2006). The CEL just came on and Autozone diagnostics code is P0442 and now it's rattling when AC is on and/or when RPMs are higher than idle.
Could this error code be a result of a faulty Purge Control Valve? Could a K&N air filter also throw this code? He subsequently put a K&N filter in a couple of weeks prior to the CEL coming on.

This was a great video. Question: should the engine light turn off immediately after installing the new valve or do I have to drive it for a number of miles before it turns off? I’ve driven it for about 35 miles now and the light is still on. Could it be the hose?
The car has to check the system several times with no faults to turn it off. It has to be in the tank range to check it which I believe is between 30-70% of fuel in the tank. Which is a trick if you have to pass emissions btw, you can reset your light keep the tank full, it will check all the other systems, you'll have one not ready with no engine light on which will pass.
I have the 2.3 and the hose behind the purge solenoid is leaking fuel badly, which doesn't make sense because it's not a fuel line but an evap line and it is 100% coming from the short hose behind the purge solenoid (on the firewall side of it). Can a fully blocked solenoid cause a pressure build up and cause fuel to come out? I'm dumbfounded.
Ever found out the issue?
Right away I was stymied by the electrical plug. I watched the video dozens of times to see if I could make out how to unplug the valve. Is it just a pull plug or do I have to press it down then pull it or do I just wiggle it and pull?
It's just a push tab on the top. Push it down and pull it out, if it sticks, push the tab down, push it in then pull it out.
does this valve problem cause the engine light to turn on? . i just wanna know if thats the reason for the engine light on. i drive a 2009 Mazda 3 with semi auto transmission and it drives fine. Sometimes after i fuel the car it has difficulty starting. is this an effect of the valve emission problem as well?.
Yes it will turn the engine light on and can affect how the car runs if it's not working properly.

It's the Innova 3030. It just pulls basic codes.
Currently have a Mazda 3 2008 with the 2.0 litre engine. Would this fit? I've read reviews on this part and some stated that they broke after some time and others stated they didn't work at all.
My thoughts exactly. My engine setup is completely different than this one.
@@hectormiguel05 The part looks practically identical but I've noticed that you get a lot of guys not willing to spend more on quality parts, leave five star reviews because they are cheap and don't ever give updates as to how the replacement is holding up.
Same problem with my 2010 Mazda 3 2.0L, the only difference is the part. My '10 Mazda has an L shape hook-up to it and the part # for it CP601- STi (just in case anyone else is having trouble finding the part for a 2010).

I just bought a used 05 Mazda 3 and it threw the code po455 also! When I looked it up it said it could be that the gas cap wasn’t on all the way when I checked, it had NO gas cap! So I got a cap and it’s still throwing the code… time to replace this and see if it’s the problem! Is it really that easy? 😮

So my Mazda 3 2005 idle flutters and sometimes shuts off car at stop light or if I'm like moving slow in parking lot. I check the catalytic converter it was fine. Change purge valve, changed spark plugs and coils. Had changed thermostat because it was throwing up that code. Changed out all that. Car still flutters. Would the O2 sensors be next to do? Or clean throttle body? Also if it's about to stall and you throw your parking brake on it goes back and sits on 1 on rpms. But usually sits one dash below one when idle unless it fluttering. Any ideas?

if you disconnected your battery, let the cr idle for 20 minutes so the computer can reset itself.
OldSport turned out to be the MAF sensor. And cleaned the throttle body a little. Also made sure everything was sealed good. Thx

I cant get my plug to come off. There seems to be a lot of gunk build up around it but im not sure if thats related. Any suggestions on what to do would be much appreciated thank you
Just spray the plug with some carb cleaner to get it off.

Does 911-701 really works for 03 Mazda 3? Every auto parts shop tells me it doesn't. Your video shows clearly that it does. Has anyone else out there tried it?
Carlos Arevalo yes it does, that's why I made the Video. It's a mistake in the Doorman numbers, and lists it for a Mazda 6 which it doesn't fit.

I have a 2005 Mazda 3s. It idles rough when stopped when i have foot on brake but the moment i let off the brake and start coasting, it smooths out. Wonder if this will fix it.

@@shakymcghee7218 This car was doing the same thing but only when cold. We fixed it by repairing the line going into the intake manifold on the front of the engine driver's side. It some how came loose, we pushed it down into position and it fixed it. Basically it was sucking air. It's about a 1/2" round hard pipe facing straight down. Wish I could respond with a photo.

You may have another issue. After it primed the system it should be fine.

Well, the ECU but it needs to have good readings from other sensors to know it needs to open it. It only gets power when pressure in the system rises, so if your checking it with no pressure it won't be getting any power yet.

Would this effect the running so much it would cause the car to see about 15 mpg? I'm throwing code p2187 and most forums said this would be the fix.
freakied0550 possible, a vacuum leak makes the car thinks it's running lean so it will make the car run richer to prevent damage. That would kill your mpg. I always recommended a smoke test first to cancel out any cracked or loose hoses that could cause a similar problem. I have a video on smoke testing, it's on a Ford van but it's the same premis.

z Malik they could, take the valve off and test like I did in the video if it clicks. I would look for something else. Do a smoke test if you can.

If the problem was fixed the light will go out after the ECU makes a few checks. The ECU checks the evap system only when the tank is between approx 30-70% .

I don't think so P0421 is catalyst and or o2 sensors.
I have a newer Mazda - is 911-701 the correct part for a 2011 Mazda 3?
I'm not sure about the 2011. I would pull yours off and bring it to a local auto parts and match it up to the 701.

Does this one work on the 2.0 liter engine? Mine looks exactly the same and am pretty sure its starting to give out because I sometimes have low idle (400 prm) when stopped. I could save a few bucks by getting this one if it works on the 2.0.

The hose that goes from the valve to the intake manifold has a solid plastic piece all the way through. How do you get it off without breaking? 911-700 is the valve with the hose www.dormanproducts.com/p-48420-911-700.aspx
You can use a heat gun to soften it.

I don’t get it, I changed out the hose and the valve because I had the p0455 code running. And it still keeps coming on to the check engine light…
You will need to do a little more digging. It's a evap leak code. You will need to do a smoke test or see my other video about the fuel pump lock ring leaking. You can pull your back seat out and remove the fuel pump access plate on the passenger side and inspect it.

@@alexpolicarpo4344 The fuel tank has to be between 30-70% for the system to check the EVAP system. It has to fail a system check a few times, I think 3 before it throws a code. If you smell gas, pull the back seat out and remove the access panel for the fuel pump, see if the lock ring is broken. That will cause gas to leak out of the top of the tank and smell up the inside of the car, and it will throw a code. I have a video on what that looks like and how to fix it.

I don't think so, P0446 is more like an open or leaking EVAP system. Have a smoke test done to find the P0446 code.
@@TepcoCycleRepair there’s no leaks or cracks on the hoses. Canister looks good tank and neck filler look good. This was one of my last things lol
