This is by far the best repair video I've ever seen for a 1st Gen Mazda 3. I hope your channel goes big. You have a fantastic personality and an ability to film very difficult shots. Thank you so much for demystifying this awful repair!
I'm the original owner of my 07 hatchback and I just did this for the first time. I had a hard time getting both filters out and realized right away Mazda put both filters in wrong as they've never been changed. This video clearly shows the proper way to install them. Great video and I give this guy a lot of credit for the filming angles he was able to achieve. It's tight in there !
took me close to 2 hours to replace this thanks to your video. very helpful and concise, definitely would not have been able to do this without your great editing, angles, lighting and explanations. My 3 has 170k miles and with how dark the previous filter was, I really doubt it was ever changed (I don't blame the first owner for that either lol). ill be honest though, I'm never doing that again. I'm all for DIY but this project was very very close to not being worth it for me. I feel awful for the people who work in shops and have to do these more than once... The space is so awkward to get to and disconnecting/reconnecting everything was very difficult with the lack of room, poor visibility, and awkward positioning that it requires. Hardest part by far was getting the new filter in, one hand would keep getting in the way of the other. I almost made a little rig to hold up the top filter so i could slide the bottom one in because of that.. smaller hands would help in this situation
4 years later and people are still using your video with that task! It's very helpful and all details are there! awesome job and thank you for your work!
I usually skip through tutorials to get to where I want to see but your video was entertaining to follow, I couldn't click off! I love your energy and that you only keep the important information in your video! Best teacher ever!
After twisting myself into positions I didn't think I was capable of, I managed to replace the cabin air filter in my 07 Mazda 3 for the first time, thanks to this video!
Just got a new to me 2008 Mazda3. This is by far the best video to change the cabin air filter. It made a painful process much bearable. What were those Mazda zoom zoom engineers thinking??? Thanks for the helpful video.
Same generation of Mazda 6 was much simpler- remove glove box. Thanks for the video- I laugh every time I watch your intro. Good explanations, good lighting generally, and step-by-step. Yours is the best on this topic- Thanks!
Just completed this job. What a giant pain in the butt! But your instructions were perfect. I had my laptop on a stool next to my car showing your video the whole time. Thanks! You saved me big $$
Awsome.. I did not want to have to tear out my glove box just to swap my cabin filter. I've got a 06 M3S. Been working on her recently and one of the only things left to do is a new Cab filter. I appreciate your thorough video bro! You've made my life a whole lot easier.
Excellent explanation for how to deal with what may be the worst-engineered cabin air filter system in automotive history. (I have done this before. I'm having to get re-educated because the previous experience was so frustrating that I blocked it from memory. ;-D)
This video was very helpful. The directions were very easily understood and easy to follow. The hardest part was actually getting in there and doing the changing, otherwise great! Good job
The video was excellent and helpful! I would have probably given up without your funny and thorough (but not ridiculously long) explanation and walk through. Like a few others, I got stuck at removing the bolts from the fuse bracket, but I borrowed a better socket wrench from neighbor and was back on track. Lining up the filters and getting them in place was also a bit trickier than I expected. All in in all, it probably took me two hours, but now I could it in 45 minutes for sure. I spent a good bit of time trying to contort myself to get a good angle working from the wheel well. I love my 2008 Mazda 3, but I'm not sure I won't go back to spending $100 to get this done at a shop. I'm thankful that I had your tips to get me through it, but it was frustrating nonetheless. Not your fault! Thanks Mazda. :-P
Real talk homie. Your personality is great on the camera. It was really enjoyable to watch. ALSO, extremely thorough and detailed video on the replacements. Good shit homie
Thank you. Decided to replace the filter at 116000 miles. Dirty but still working fine. What a job. It was a real PITA. But thank you for all your help.
Excellent video! Thank you so much for helping us all out. I always disconnect the negative battery cable first though whenever I'm messing around with electronics like the fuse box in this case. Just better to be safe than sorry. Thanx again for posting!
Yours is the best instructional videos I've seen for replacing these filters. Your verbal instructions are clear, and camera works is very good. I'm off to the store to go buy some air filters now. Thanks!
@@BinhDong It went well! No issues. My old filters were abysmal. Very gross. For some reason my AC stopped working after I finished though. Ha. Oh well. A new project now!
Thank you for your time to share this video as it's very helpful. I had taken out the glove box and was at the exact area where you began. Those fine details that you covered made this a whole lot easier.
Got mine done today. Really helps to say Owww Yeeah at the completion of each step. I recommend doing this at the same interval I've done mine on my 2008 speed 3. You'll want to do this once every 12 years or 94k miles. For speed owners there is a black airflow sensor attached that you can see clearly the cutout for at the 6m mark . There are two more cables to disconnect here but you don't have to unscrew the screws holding the black piece in. This is for the automatic climate control systems.
Thanks for this video! I think the reason why many other youtubers take out the glovebox is to create more working space. Instead of working in such a tight space. I'll be needing to do this too on my mazda 3 2005 sedan soon.
🔧🔩🏆 This is an exceptional how-to video. The results are a 5-star production, Binh! You offer straight-forward directions every step of the way, you cover all the steps required, and, best of all, you don't have any annoying background music.
Thank you so much for this comment!!! And yesssss someone noticed the background music, I totally agree. Background is music is fine and all but many videos its more forground than background. But again, thank you and thank you for watching!
Awesome video, you made it much more entertaining and motivational! Managed to pull this off on a RHD Mazda 3. Filming this must have been a real challenge, but you managed to make it very clear. Massive thanks!
Jeffrey Barker the glovebox does come out. Not as easy as other cars though. But it doesn’t help taking out the glovebox for this install imho. You would have to take out the trim piece that goes to the radio and there are like two or three screws under that trim piece plus you have to take out/pull back the weather stripping from the door.
just want to say thanks for the great guide! it was still a pita to change knowing what to expect though. i recommend anyone doing this to remove the glove box as well. i left the cables intact with the fusebox holder which meant less angles for me to see. had i removed the glove box, i would have been able to see the fitment of the filters better and be able to vacuum all the crap in there. i did this on a RHD, so the process was almost the same on the passenger side. differences are no filter sensor to disconnect, the filter cover is black and the 4 screws holding it are easier to access. also you remove the top filter first and then the bottom one. i ended up with a CEL. i just disconnected the negative terminal on the battery afterwards for 15 mins to reset it.
I've done my oil and filters change a month ago and I've told my mechanic not to bother with the cabin filter cause I'll do it my self(and save some money). I came back to this video to finally encourage myself to do it haha. (I'm a big Boi too).

Thx so much for being so clear with this. I could not put it back together without this vid. Taking it apart was easy. It was also easier at night and some wine :)
In my opinion, I think it's worth pulling out the glovebox so you actually have room to work. The glovebox isnt the most difficult to remove. I initially did this method and had to go back because I put the filters in backward, but had a much easier time with the glovebox out. The fuse box connectors and wires can also be moved out of the way more easily with the ledge revealled when you take out the glovebox.
Thanks for your detailed video and enthusiasm! Unfortunately I couldn’t get the 12mm bolts to budge (but they’ve never been moved since 2008). This is a wildly complex design.
Not only useful for changing the filters, but I came here to see how difficult it may be to remove the PJB. I'm having the issue with the dash lights shorting out and tail lights not coming on due to the bad relay in the PJB. I'm going to remove it and see if I can reflow the solder joints with a heat gun. Hey buddy thanks I just started working at the local MAZDA dealership and this video was super helpful I’ve done some cabin filters but never on a 08 MAZDA 3 you really saved me today thank you 🍀
I can't get the bolt out of the fuse panel bracket on the left. Stuck in there pretty good, any tips? May have started stripping a little, the bolt Edit: I think I need to cut the nut and put a new nut on. A replacement should be easy to find at any parts store correct?
I literally can’t get that exact same nut unscrewed. I had to use so much force that it broke the deep impact socket that I have, and stripped the outer part of the nut. There’s not enough room to get down there and remove it with another tool. I feel like you have to put 800lbs of pressure to remove it. I even used WD40 to no avail.
@@youlittlesaget lol I'm sorry, I gave up and paid a shop to replace it right before I sold the car to family. Now I bought an 09 Mazda 3. I'm guessing it's also never been changed and is the same way 🙄
I just changed my cabin air filter and engine filter on my 2004 mazda 3 and when I turned the car on the check engine light was on. The old cabin filters were really bad, I don't think they were ever changed before I bought it. Any thoughts as to why the check engine light might have popped on? I'm taking it to autozone tomorrow to see what codes pop up. Thanks in advance for your help.
Emil Petkov probably just need to be reset assuming you put everything back together. It happens if you do the install without pulling the negative or disconnecting the battery.

Very nice and derailed video. Thanks from Greece.!!!
Awww yeahhh
Hey buddy thanks I just started working at the local MAZDA dealership and this video was super helpful I’ve done some cabin filters but never on a 08 MAZDA 3 you really saved me today thank you 🍀
Stephen Maldonado that’s great to hear!!
Thank you sir! Claustrophobics may not be able to handle this but with a little discomfort I pulled it off, no glovebox removal needed:
I can't get the bolt out of the fuse panel bracket on the left. Stuck in there pretty good, any tips? May have started stripping a little, the bolt
Edit: I think I need to cut the nut and put a new nut on. A replacement should be easy to find at any parts store correct?
Impact driver or longer ratchet
And yes it should be easy to find that nut.
@@BinhDong thanks. I think it's an M8 flanged nut 1.25. hopefully that's it as that's what I could find
I'm guessing it's also never been changed and is the same way 🙄
Thank you for a detailed video, but I got tired just watching it, so I gave up on replacing it.😂
You had me at "ohhh yeaa"
I just changed my cabin air filter and engine filter on my 2004 mazda 3 and when I turned the car on the check engine light was on. The old cabin filters were really bad, I don't think they were ever changed before I bought it. Any thoughts as to why the check engine light might have popped on? I'm taking it to autozone tomorrow to see what codes pop up. Thanks in advance for your help.
Emil Petkov probably just need to be reset assuming you put everything back together. It happens if you do the install without pulling the negative or disconnecting the battery.
@@BinhDong I'm about 99% sure it's all connected properly and thoroughly, and I think you're right! I reset the CEL by turning my key three times and the CEL hasn't turned back on. Thanks for the input, and the tutorial!
Oooohhhh Yeah!!!!Thanks to this video, I saved a lot of money.
Thank you for this video, it finally gave me the courage to tackle this tonight and it was a success!
Nice video its helpfull, imagine the difference between new model its only in the glove compartment
Yup. It’s crazy how involved they made it for the first gen.
Great instructional video! Others posting here can learn from this. Thanks
Do you know to check if the ac condenser on the 2008 mazda 3 2.3 is working correctly
