    You did something special here, Jamie. Granting a deep insight in the development process of your (real life) presets and use cases for each of them. I can see that these presets are not designed to just put the next generic set out to the sales room. I can kind of feel the soul that brought these different looks to life. Due to this video I purchased your presets and I'm very happy with them. Thanks a lot!
    To photo enthusiasts reading this I would suggest: watch out for exactly this: a (one) small set of presets that you can relate to and stick with it for a while. Get to know the presets. Play with them. Learn the links between all the adjustments inside of these presets.
    Don't get yourself distracted with offers like "200 presets for 5$ only!" Why do I advise to avoid these offers?
    - it's not about the money. Spend as much money as you would like
    - it's not about the quality either. I know graphic asset marketplaces which offer dozens of preset sets for nothing. High quality, as fas as I can judge (=meticulous tweakings with very advanced settings). That won't help you as a beginner, though. Because you won't have any insight to understand the purpose of any one of those presets. Just scrolling through a hundred presets won't get your photos a lot better.
    Imagine the same thing with a camera. You get the best camera and press the shutter. Bound to produce the best photos, right? Er ...no. You need to understand your camera to get the best use out of it. Only then you get to the next level. (Which should of course be a level of artistic expression with your photography, not about gear. ;-) )

      I agree with a lot of your thoughts. Just had to say that i read your last sentence with replacing photography with pornography. And it became this:
      "Which should of course be a level of artistic expression with your pornography, not about gear. ;-) )"
      yeah.

    I don't often use presets, but its a small way to contribute to the wonderful work you do on this channel, not to mention that they bring back memories of studying photography in the 90s and endless hours spent in the darkroom!. Keep up the fantastic work!

    Very pleased with your presets Jamie. I've been searching for good film presets for the longest time and honestly haven't been to satisfied but yours however are exactly what I have been looking for. I do a lot of portrait work and I spent a few hours messing around with your presets and they look beautiful on my portraits. Thank you for making these!

    I have downloaded several of your preset packs and I just want to say how awesome of a job you did. It's fun to have other presets to work with and experiment with. Your presets are about the only ones out there that actually work and look good in various lighting scenarios etc. Great Job and Keep up the good work man!!

    I don’t use presets all that much, to be honest. But I went ahead purchased as a way for me to attempt in giving back, even in a small and symbolic way, for all the wisdom you been sharing in your videos. Thank you.

    When you said you didn't want to give your presets out for free because it took you years to create them, I appreciated your honesty and I was sold. Told myself if it's under $50 I will buy it. Found out it was only $21. EVEN BETTER! Do you have any more presets by any chance?

      Aaron H Thank you. I’m working on some, but it will be a while before I release them. They take time to perfect. I’m focussing on more film stock emulation this time.

    I think other people’s presets are brilliant for people going into the scary world of post processing, a bit like the automatic settings when you first get a DSLR/SLR camera. I shoot a lot of film still, FP4+ and HP5+ being my favourite go to films as I can’t afford Acros all the time. Totally agree about the tonal range being so important even though my main developer being Rodinal. So when I’m shooting digital, for wildlife or working tethered for still life I don’t try to emulate the film look I get using analogue as I want my analogue prints to stand out as being unique. My main presets come from my Spyder Color Checker, a fantastic bit of kit that makes a massive difference. A great video that I’m sure will be of benefit to many people.

      Jamie just one question. If I shoot RAW 5d on a 50mm sigma art and a canon 135 do you think your presets will work well ? I’ve heard some people say that presets (not yours) didn’t do what they were supposed to do on thier photos. Sorry stupid question but I know I can rely on you for a honest answer.

    Jamie - ive paid/downloaded the presets and like them thus far, one quick question - if I want a true representation of how you wanted the look shall i keep the camera in standard default mode or can I switch it too Landscape mode as i usually do? Stupid question but just want your thoughts

    • @jamiewindsor
      @jamiewindsor  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi. Thanks for buying them. When you say Landscape mode, are you talking about applying a picture profile? If so, this shouldn't make a difference as these use adobe picture profiles.

    hi again Jamie. I bought the presets a couple of months ago and have incorporated them into my work flow on occasion. I should have mentioned previously. up until last week I had been using Lightroom 3.6 - and the presets were working great. the new Lightroom 5.5 that I am using is now giving me different results. the colours seen much more saturated and whites seem more blown out. I don't mind reading LR3 again but I'm enjoying the newer features.
    any thoughts appreciated
    cheers

    • @jamiewindsor
      @jamiewindsor  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi. The presets are designed to work optimally with the latest version of Lightroom, so when you go back to older versions (I believe 3.6 is about 10 years old now I think), you may lose some functions and revert to an earlier process version which can produce some different results. They will still work but may need some extra tweaking. So it's likely that what you've got now (provided that they are still the original presets being used and they haven't been converted by Lightroom in any way) is more what they're meant to look like (it's difficult to know without seeing them in action). If you go down to the final panel on the right (Camera Calibration) and change the Process setting to an earlier version, they may revert to their earlier look.

      @@jamiewindsor Jamie cheers for the reply. I think I'm going to go back to 3.6 as I preferred the look.... crazy but hey they looked better

    Hi Jamie. Thanks and getting ready to buy these presets. Any thoughts on how they'd behave with Sony images/colors?

    • @jamiewindsor
      @jamiewindsor  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't own any Sony camera so am unable to test these although I know Sony gives quite a clean look to the colours so they should work well. I'm happy to test some for you if you wanted to WeTransfer me some RAW files.

  • @almartin22
    @almartin22 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Jamie, Thank you for the presets. Would you say it is ok to use your presets on JPG files or should I use them on RAW files only for best results (I'm using a 5D classic)? Thanks, Alex.

    • @jamiewindsor
      @jamiewindsor  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Raw is better, but JPEGs should work ok as long as the shot is exposed as you want it (white balance etc)
