    I experiment with the Cobra SpeedBack F9 Driver by adding more weight to the head to see if it changes performance and possibly increase distance.

    I put an 18 in the front and a 6 in the back. Kept shaft length the same and I'm BOMBING my drives!

    Michael. You've changed the whloe dynamics of the shaft. It cant handle the extra torque of the heavier head now.

    Keep trying/testing lofts and weights Michael. Not many other you tubers are do this. Everything is usually tested in the neutral settings.

    I'd really like a follow-up with a different shaft (maybe counterbalanced) to optimize this setup.

    😮 great video ! Like I said yesterday, I Had the same initial thoughts: slower club head speed and faster ball speed. So very Surprised you didn’t gain ball speeds! At least for me you put to bed the idea of putting in that extra 14 gr. Weight. Way too inconsistent with accuracy

    The 18 gram weight with 2 gram in the back is the long drive set up.

    Adding weight to the head is fine. But you may want to add weight to the top of the shaft to 'lighten' the feel' of the clubhead....if you have trouble getting 'through the hitting zone.."

    How on earth do you manage to hit it soo far, with what appears to be... very little effort! Beautiful swing!

      The club is sick, it adds like 20 yards at least compared to xr made 3 years ago.

    Depending on the club manufacturer the base weight is different. I had a F-8+, Cobra's standard swing weight was D-2 at 45.00 in. The correct swing weight for most tour pros is D-4+. It was necessary to add 4 grams of total weight to head to get max. performance. In this test you are overriding the shaft, as I have stated before. Shafts are designed & tested at 200-205 grams. Extra weight is changing the shaft flex & kick points. For any clubhead 204 to 210 max. will give you the desired performance for shafts at 45.50 to 44.50 in. length. If you have a shaft length 46.00 in. or longer the headweight will have to dropped to swing the club correctly. Performance wise, remove clubhead from shaft & adjust the balance of clubhead with weighting to center the cg in line with the clubface loft. Move weight rearward to add Dynamic loft for higher flight, & the reverse for less spin & less dynamic loft. For all adjustment of weighting the shaft adapter must be weighed & added to total weight. I am a clubbuilder for over 25 years, I hope this will shed some correct information to people who have not studied club design & custom builds.

      thomas ross - Hi Thomas, do you suggest upgrading the 14g or the 2g by the extra 4g? I can order either weight, 18g or 6g, from Cobra. I tend to hit up on my drives with my F9, 9degree, Atmos Black 6 xstiff, 112 swing speed. Thank you!

      I upgraded my 2g (stock light one) with a 6g one and kept the stock 14g one. Really promising. Have the heavy one in the back and +1 D setting. Haven’t switched positions yet, but have seen people mention 20g total as the sweet spot.

    My question is what shaft are you using? is the tip stiff/firm enough to compensate for such a heavy head with 28 grams added?

    What happens when you add weight to the back? I was thinking of adding 5g to my M2 2016 driver and the weight is center-back.

    How about 12 grams of lead tape on the front by the front weight. You can’t have lots of weight in the back and expect low spin

  • @OriginalGollie
    @OriginalGollie 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Wouldn’t that much weight really throw off the shaft response? If you add that much I figure you need stiffer flex and probably counter balanced so it doesn’t mess up your delivery timing

    I did this test by accident. I had the yellow F9 speedback and after watching some videos about CG, i tried with front vs back weight. I found it best keeping it front heavy.
    I really wanted the camo masters edition (14g + 2g), since i didn't like the yellow (18g + 2g). I noticed immediately the weighting is different, not sure whether it's because of the loft of the head that needs different settings, or if it's difference between the 2 editions. The standard F9 was 9 degree, kept at 9 degree and my camo is 10.5 degrees, which i adjusted down to 9.
    I find with the camo edition, in the same loft conditions, that i hit it further than the standard F9 with a lighter weight. The only difference is within the shaft. Not sure if you can make a good comprison or conclusion between a difference in both shaft and weighting at the same time?
    I was fitted for the stiff shaft, however, on my own feeling, i prefer regular flex, even with a higher swing speed.
    One thing i would enjoy seeing is experimenting with different shafts, especially since nowadays with most drivers, hybrids and with some clubs, it's possible to hot swap them in and out. I really enjoy Project X even flow regular in my driver and with my irons, the mamiya es 780 graphite regular flex.

    I would love to see what would happen if you would shorten the shaft of the heavier driver by 1 inch to keep the same swing weight between both drivers. For me too heavy swing weight causes the club to be more behind me and it becomes pretty much impossible to square the face.

    Nice test. You tend to hit your driver just ever so slightly up in the angle of attack. Like a lot of tour professional do. Mainly for accuracy. Additionally, all of your strikes were just below the center of the face. Again, this is the more accurate play but it does add a bit of spin. With your clubhead speed, I would like to see a video with you teeing the ball up higher and hitting the F9 driver two to three degrees up and striking higher on the club face by playing the ball a little farther forward in your stance. I would be interested in the results. I assume quite a bit more distance at the expense of accuracy.

    • @MichaelNewtonGolf
      @MichaelNewtonGolf  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      moving ball further forward in stance to create a ,ore up attack would encourage a lower strike point on the face

    • @brianfong3954
      @brianfong3954 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Would think this would be an unfair test. As your used to hitting a club that is set up in a stock weight of the club head and shaft flex.
      Get yourself fitted to that club heads weight and a shaft that would suit you and club.
      Varying factor is you not being able to swing and hit with the club set up for you. I would like to see the numbers then.
