My first one bought in South Africa in 68 was 2.5 later replaced by a 2.3 before the 3.0 in 71,same colour as this one, champagne they called it,what an amazing motor,I loved it,thinking about the exchange rate back then it would have set me back about £1100,when the kids came I replaced it with a four door which was great but not in the same class as the coupe
Nice car in great shape I have old 17M P7b from 1969 year its same style but my is a 2door sedan ,now it's in restoration work i will install same 3.0 V6 Essex engine like this one .Greetings from Croatia!😎👍
I had my eye on this car from a few months back. Its from the carcave scotland chap.! The asking price seemed a little high. £23k .. But i could be wrong.! Its a beauty for sure.! 👍👍👍
@@rutzirutz5838 The P7 and P7b did not use the "Taunus" name in South Africa and if I'm not mistaken not in Germany either. They were simply "Ford 17M" and "Ford 20M", and many South Africans colloquially called it simply "The German Ford".
Thanks everyone that didn't bid as I was able to buy this lovely car lol. Had a bit of a shock as thought that would go in the garage no problem but it's a very long car and can just squeeze in.
i had this only diference had two extra round yellow lights on the front metal grill, was the RS1600 as my first escort rally car not a road car as i was a driver till early 80´s already with the escort RS2000. Ultra rare ? you should see the older coupé with the extra lights fiited in the front chromed bumper that would put them at a higher level makin`the bumper curved, only saw this one i had but still in my city Beja, Portugal where lot´s of german families lived for three decades or a bit more , so they imported engines from south africa to european countries, the coupé seen on the video available here on youtube doesn´t look nothing like the one i refer ,had a slick look very sportive lines and low with special iron rally wheels not alloy, and missing the chromed round rims to this iron wheels to give a more depth feeling ,it´s missing in the video
i know a guy who has a Ford 20M 2300S Tudor XL 1969 that's been sitting since the mid 80's. Are they like really rare? cause i could barely find any pictures or information on them. and what would be a good price for it?
@mikyeng, this IT IS a Taunus,i had two of those, and M is for Maisterstuk, wich in german means Masterwork.even on the key of those cars is written Taunus
14:34 This is not german, it is dutch. And 20m is not the body shape, 20m stands for the generation of the model within the Taunus range, just like MK1,MK2,MK3... Between the 1950s and the 1970s they built Taunus 12m, 15m, 17m and 20m. The m stands for "masterpiece".

My partner's dad had one of these in green I believe beautiful car and lovely styling all round
Love it ❤first time I have seen one lovely and unusual looking motor 😀 😊
😍😍beautiful! Don't think I've ever seen a Taunus in England, only on the continent!
These cars were built in Port Elizabeth, South Africa and the underbonnet labelling is consequently English and Afrikaans, not German.
14:34 that's Afrikaans, not German. Nice motor! 👍

Pillerless coupe reminds me of Opel Record .
A very rare car in excellent condition.
If like me you are very fussy a good restorer will easily attend to the blemishes.
Stunning
Not seen one before, got a hint of baby Dodge Charger to it
Wunderschön!
Ich würde es am liebsten sofort kaufen.
Sehr schön mit Stiel und Charme. Toll.👌😍

So how's it running? Any restorations necessary? The vinyl rear bench looks to have become brittle with age.

It’s not Dutch either, mate. It’s Afrikaans. The car is made in South Africa .
The Dutch word for warning is spelt Belangrijk ( Afrikaans Belangrik)
@@monk3yboy69 Thanks for pointing that out. Africaans looks like dutch to me, because they are so similar.
Can I ask if anyone is bidding tomorrow for this can you not because I will be lol

This car had an heavy accident, or why is the steering wheel on the wrong side ?
It was made in South Africa for that market.
