- There are two 3-D dark rides that stand out above all the rest, but which one is the best: The Curse of DarKastle at Busch Gardens Williamsburg or The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man at Universal Studios Islands of Adventure?

R.I.P. to one of my favorite dark rides. Kind of messed up that BG didn't announce this and give fans one last chance to ride.

It always cracks me up that the "You will never escaaaaaaape!" line comes when you're in clear view of the exit signs and watching people unload.
At the end when he says "You will never escape", I always respond with "We just did".
"You have such hunger for my secrets? Come you shall be fed!" LOL
I was once stuck on this ride for 3 hours... all we got was ONE fast pass! Anyone who has been on this ride knows how cold it is in there! I was so cold my legs were numb.
Sorry, but I busted out laughing when the dog ate the old lady ghost.
This ride is my childhood. Like, for real. I've been going to Busch Gardens since before I entered kindergarten. Ahh, the memories. I haven't been here in two years, though, so I need to go back ASAP.
We went to Busch Gardens one time when it was so hot we just kept going on this ride, because it was air conditioned and nice inside and at one point you even get sprayed with mist. We tried Escape from Pompeii, too, but the problem with that one is all the fire inside means it's not really cool, and there's only that moment of splash at the very end. I love Busch Gardens in general, though :)
I'll take this ride over spiderman anyday. Come on it's a good horror themed ride which is rare.
A few hours ago, Busch Gardens announced, without warning, that this would be closed permanently.

Yes, the special effects in the carts make it feel like it is acually happening.
This is by far the best ride I've even been on. Besides the 3D holographic effects the ride blows cold and hot air on you and water at various times, and has great music and sound effects, really adds to the immersion. It's one of those rides you wish were much longer.
Haha.. I know this comment is from 12 years ago and you'll most likely never seen this but I was wondering if you had been to Universal Orlando. Darkastle was amazing and brilliant and the only ride close to as cool as the rides there.
Ahhh... memories of being on this ride. I remember it felt so real, I got so scared that I took off my 3D glasses halfway through the ride; sad to see it got replaced by another ride though. :(
I looked at a video containing original footage of this ride. The one where all of Ludwig's guests vanished at. I was expecting something like that. But I was flying through the castle and snakes crawled out of Ludwig's mouth.
I was disappointed about some of the refurbishments. Mostly the snakes, because I have a STRONG phobia of them. But I still liked this ride. I'll miss it.
this ride is amazing!i went on it 4 times when i was there about 2 weeks ago, and it never got old!! if you go to busch gardens, go on it, no matter how long the line is, its worth it!!
Me and my friend went on this 9 times in a row, every time we fell off the balconey I got goosebumbs.
I remember when they advertised it to be super scary and all the build up for it when your in live intensified the fear factor then when you get on its one big ass comedy show .

When the ride first opened, there was a part between the Dining Room and the Fireplace that made the "plot" make more sense. They cut it.
This was my favorite ride at Busch Gardens.
This was such a fun ride when I went!! Can't wait to go again!!!
I live in Virginia and go to Busch gardens every month and have yet to go on this ride but I think I will now!

I remember when DarKastle first opened, and they had to have huge mister fans situated outside (to keep people from passing out in the queue). Still, I loved the ride and really miss it now that it's gone.
I went here for a band competition it was so fun!! Best 3D I've ever seen!!

Yes I agree! When I first went on this ride, I thought it was a little scary but cool at the same time! But when I went on Universal, I thought it was much better because of the effects and 360 screens in one scene and its directed more towards families.
I saw this the first day it opened. The drop when you fall is the best part.
I love this ride and it's cool in 3D.
I wonder why they got rid of this dark ride. I was one of the best rides I have been on for a non-Universal, non-Disney attraction. Now it's gone in order to make way for a show stage.
I like going in these rides because when it's scorching hot outside, these waiting halls and rides cool you right off. :-)
This ride was pretty cool. I don't know why people are saying its stupid. And it only looks stupid because it wasn't in 3D. It's cool when it's in 3D

I probably rode this 20 times a day while I was there, because it was the coolest place in the park =P Starting to feel hot, go ride DarKastle a few times. Cool, refreshed, relaxed.... get back to walking the park.

I'll be going to Busch Gardens at the end of the month. I've been several times before, but I've always been to chicken to ride Curse of DarKastle. I watched this video, and it didn't seem too bad. I can handle regular thrills, but I simply cannot handle things jumping out at me (I avoid theme parks around Halloween for this reason, and don't even get me started on haunted houses). I have a disorder where sudden loud noises are actually painful to me (it's hard to explain). Is Curse of DarKastle too scary? I mean, things jumping out, sudden loud noises, etc. I can handle prolonged loud noises, but not gunshots, fireworks, balloons popping, etc. Thank you so much for the help! I've always heard fantastic things about this ride.
it's not as bad as it seems, I was hesitant to ride this at first because I thought it was going to be scary too, but I rode twice and it is SO MUCH FUN!!
I've been to this park more times than I can count. Seriously, it's like my home away from home, I've been at least 50 times in my life and I am actually going tomorrow for Howl-O-Scream 2016! It's such a fun ride!!!

Is the "disorder" you're talking about hyperacusis or SPD (sensory processing disorder) or something similar?
I remember I rode this when I was like 6 and I just took off my 3-d glasses and covered my eyes!!(x aha. The line took FOREVER! My sister,dad and I waited for about 3 hours just to get in the walls of the castle.
I'm still bummed I'll never be able to ride this again but glad I got some of family to go on it, they loved it. I remember reading an interview where the engineers said they actually had the ability to remotely change any scene they wanted at anytime. I wish they had went that route (which I do know they did that at least once when the ride was open). I get why they wanted to make a roller coaster and still use this story but I highly doubt it will be anywhere near as good as this. From the one POV I've seen of Darkoaster and the many I've seen of Verbolten the other show building looks much better. 😑
i was on this for the first time when i had a school trip to busch gardens (my school is in NJ) and i loved this thing. woulda been better if the fire and smoke was there
The screen before the last one had the wolf smashing into the screen incidentally. Maybe we were behind a window in the castle? If not, then the wolf would've been on us spitting and chomping. But that was the last part when the wolf turned to stone when we escaped.
To count, I've been on this ride 4 times and it just gets better, I got my dad on it when my family went and he said it was just classic cheesy horror thrills.To this day I still disagree with him on this and overall the ride is fun fast-paced.

It's pretty corny, but it's the best dark ride i've ever been on. I love this ride!
i guess it can be considered a roller coaster, but not in the way that most people think.
its a large room, with like 10 small rooms inside that have screens. you wear 4D glasses and the seat moves around to each room.
When you put on your 3D glasses this ride is beast trust me I grew up here in VA untill I moved I went what like very week you guys should see hallowscreem

I rode this, and it was AMAZING! It wasn't SCARY, but it was definitely interesting. =P I loved it! HIGHLY recommend it to those of you going to Busch Gardens any time soon.
I agree. My only problem with it is that the second time I went on it, it randomly stopped after the guy says "It's time to heat things up!" And me and my friends were stuck in the dark for about 45 seconds. When we started moving again most of the screens were blank. And I heard the audio playing ahead of where we were supposed to be. It caught up the ride caught up with everything near then end though.

In my opinion, Curse of Darkastle is a better ride than Spider-Man. The 3D is more updated, and there is more detail not only in the ride, but the que as well!

As much as I love darkastle and Busch gardens the spider man ride is much more amazing ( no pun intended)
Spider man has amazing theming and darkastle it themed to nothing really but some random cursed castle I think darkastle it garbage and I’m glad it’s getting removed (PERMANENTLY)
You should work the register at the store across from it like myself and you'll hate it more.
I cant really judge DarKastle, I've never been on it, but based on the video I honestly kinda agree with you.
i remember the first year this came out it kept breaking down... i go to busch gardens every other year for vacation and they always change this....

I had nightmares about this ride because my dad made me go on it when I didn't want to. I stay up until the sun came up because I this ride.
It was amazing until our graphics glitched at the end, it was kind of like watching it w/o glasses except we had them on.
This was and always will be way better than the spider man ride at universal. This has an original story, better theming, and gorgeous coloring. Not to mention the pre-show. Spider man is just another comic book look that's honestly overly goofy, despite it still being fun. Also, apparently Busch Gardens has turned into universal now, since there removing it. Probably replacing it with something inadequate in 2018 that so far is just described as "VR." As if getting an underwhelming GCI prior wasn't a disappointment to a park that deserved a much better coaster from a company capable of far, far better regardless of height/speed. White Lightning > Invadr with the silent E.
Ah, this was earlier in the ride's history. They never do the smoke flames in the fireplace anymore.

I rode this one and hated it. I was also 8. I had my head down the whole time and the one time I looked up I had a skull in my face. But you had to wear 3-D glasses when I rode it

the first time i was screaming really hard and i was covering my ears, and i didnt put the 3D glasses on (i get spooked really easily)
but then the second time my cousin started screaming "ITS JUST A SCREEN ITS OKAY'" with relieved eyes 8*
so the third time we were reppin in the front seat screaming "YOURE JUST A SCREEN" and we started making fun of everything with the glasses on. best ride experience ever. LOL

It's a 3d roving motion simulator, meaning it has vehicles that move along a track similar to Indiana Jones, but throughout the ride there are screens displaying 3d movies.
