There's even a story that you're being chased into the Black Forest by the wolf and all through the forest you're still being chased until you're at the drop track where you see it's red eyes in front of you.
@@mialarynn Yes, Verbolten replaced Big Bad Wolf. Which is pretty cool that Verbolten pays homage to it in both ways the drop and the Big Bad Wolf story. When I rode Verbolten I got the storm sequence.
The Big Bad Wolf was my FIRST ever roller coaster so you can say was a little attached to it and slighty heart broken when they took it down..I sure miss it and wish I could have rode it one last time...but i MUST SAY that Verbolten has to be one of my favorite roller coasters so far, HANDS DOWN..refreshing and exhilarating!
I agree. I wish that I would have had the chance to ride it though, but I did ride Verbolten a week and a half ago, it really is exhilarating! I had probably the biggest adrenaline rush I've ever had on a roller coaster right after that drop track part...WOW!
This was my first "big kid" roller coaster when I was 10 (or about to turn 10) in 1991 and I still come back to this video. I rode it again in 2000 and 2006 but I'm just glad these videos exist. It was an awesome ride.
I was aroind the same time frame for me. Loch ness was my first big kid one around 90 I bet. Drachen Fire was my fav, but after its removal it was wolf. I rode this til.close often many summer nights as a child.
Busch Gardens has had many fine rides. Although it wasn't the fastest or tallest roller coaster, the Big Bad Wolf really was something special. The suspended aspect was unique for most theme park guests, especially during the first decade or more of it's run... the atmosphere and theming was world-class... and for me it was always my favorite of the park. My favorite memory of this roller coaster, and any other for that matter: after years of riding the Big Bad Wolf, I rode it once at night, and the operators decided to turn off ALL of the track and theme lighting. It was like riding a roller coaster blind-folded, but getting just the faintest glimpses of trees and scenery you thought for sure you were going to run into. Scary? Yeah... but fun as hell.
I watch lots of POVs of coasters past, and I rarely feel what the 'appeal' of the ride was. This video made me see why so many people loved and still miss Big Bad Wolf. Thanks for sharing!
Memories of one the first roller coasters I've ever been on. Had me shook the whole time but after the ride was over I made sure I bought a "I Survived The Big Bad Wolf" t-shirt. Gone but never forgotten BBW....Salute
My favorite coaster, ever, at my favorite park ever. It is so wooded. They eased a park into the landscape. Once, when the BBW just started (at about the 8 second mark in the video) we saw a 12 point buck casually grazing without a care in the world. Soooo special. I cried when I found out it was gone.
Me too. IT"S GONE?! I was about to post something about how old this coaster is, it's been there since I was 7 years old at least. I'm not a fan of roller coasters, but this one was special. It was very smooth.
This was my first EVER rollercoaster, I was like four, I wanted to ride it again, and again, and again! Thanks Busch Gardens for an awesome rollercoaster!!!
My son’s first roller coaster was this ride, awesome ways of how the twists and turns were. He was heartbroken when it was removed, but the new Verbolten really worked well. I still miss it, but this really was the best. ❤️🙂
I loved this ride so much, this ride is what made me want to get a pet wolf as a kid. I think my favorite part about the ride was the scenery of it, how it was so original and different. There was just something so awesome and creepy about going through an abandoned old world German village. I hope they do something positive with those buildings. R.I.P. you old dog.
I’m so glad I had the honor of riding this bad boy back in 2009. Verbolten is a great ride and all and it does a great job paying homage to Big Bad Wolf, but I did prefer Big Bad Wolf. Big Bad Wolf, you are missed, but your spirit still lays heavily in Verbolten.
This was an awesome coaster! So glad someone was able to get footage while riding it! This was the coaster that Vincent Price did the Voice Over for. He was a coaster enthusiast and loved riding them! Wish Busch Gardens hadn't taken it out - wish they'd sold it to another park or something. So sad to see it gone. Such great memories of riding it with my dad.
R.I.P Big Bad Wolf. This will always be my favorite ride anywhere, anytime. Thank YOU so much for making this video. It's very well done, I feel like I'm riding my old friend. Shame on you Busch Gardens. This was a classic. This was the BEST ride in VA!!!
This was the first roller coaster I ever rode, and I got to ride it again in 2008. I'm so glad I didn't miss it. Great coaster, jarring ride. I still felt toooooo close to all those buildings! RIP Bid Bad Wolf! I'll miss you!
Wahhhhh! I think so many people will miss it because it was the first coaster for so many. It's definitely what made me fall in love with roller coasters!
I miss this ride!!!! it as my first real roller coaster and I remember air just filling my cheeks like in the cartoons. It's a shame it was torn down and I can't help but feel the Lochness Monster is to meet the same fate.
Arrow Parts are Scarce Ive heard Steel coasters Eventually Fall In Disrepair:(Hence Why all of Them are Disapearing and The old Log Flumes,,,,,But Hopkins Still makes Flumes
Christina Jordan they can't they will have it until it eventually wears and tears because it is a landmark for American coaster enthusiasts, a worldwide organization, and is often considered one of the smoothest arrow coasters
I remember after riding this the last year of its operation, I bought a stuffed wolf with a BBW emblem on it and I'm so glad I did lol. I miss this ride a lot. Thanks for posting.
Building this coaster in the woods with the German village theming absolutely made this coaster incredibly unique. It’s something that is sorely lacking from a lot of major coasters being built these days.
The Big Bad Wolf was my second Roller Coaster after The Loch Ness Monster, these two legendary icons of thrill destroyed my fear of Roller Coasters. I love them both, thank you Big Bad Wolf, and Loch Ness Monster...thank you.
Rode this on my 5th grade class trip to Williamsburg, VA, way back in 1987. Although I grew up on amazing coasters like the Great American Scream Machine and Mindbender at S.F. over Georgia, I have always considered myself lucky to have had a chance to ride this one before its demise. Awesome vid, and awesome coaster.
I just was at Busch Gardens last week (as of this comment). I love Verbolten, one of the best launched coasters I've ridden. I wish I would've rode this legendary coaster. It's awesome seeing and one ride video on TH-cam. I've done 2 Arrow Dynamics suspended coasters, Iron Dragon at Cedar Point (forceless) and The Bat at Kings Island (my favorite arrow suspended coaster).
I am going to Busch Gardens in a week, and it is going to feel so weird w/o this ride there! This was my first suspended coaster and I loved it; it was soooo smooth and fast and just tons of fun. RIP BBW, you will be greatly missed!
I loved this ride. Both times I visited this park I rode it several times. That drop at the end is one of my favorites out of all of the coasters I've ridden.
this was my first ever REAL roller coaster. it will always have a special place in my heart.... im glad to see Busch Gardens paid homage to such a legendary coaster
This was one of my first too, i rode it every year I went there. I rode it for the last time as well as said good bye to it 2 years ago. I will never forget it :)
It's sad to see this ride is gone apparently. I rode it as a 5 year old back in 09. Funnily enough there was an elmo movie theater ride that scared me shitless same with some 3d ghost mansion ride too.
This was my very first rollercoaster and I'm so happy that I rode it. Absolute favorite of mine. I'm sad that its gone, but when they put Verbolten in place of it, it was like the sequel to the Big Bad Wolf. Perfect follow up in my opinion because they kept the Big Bad Wolf's spirit alive :)
stop. hating. on. verbolten. BBW was my first coaster ever and i loved it but not every ride can stick around forever. its not verbolten's fault it was taken down, it was because maintenance was too expensive, verbolten just happens to be the ride they put in that spot. and quite frankly they were both great rides so stop hating on verbolten, k?
I was fortunate enough to get the balls to ride this the last time we took a family trip there. One of the most fun coasters I've ever been on, and not a loop in sight.
We went to Busch gardens at Williamsburg me my sister on the band trip from 1999 and 2001 it was the blast got on a roller coaster like big bad wolf also on a loch ness monster Apollo chariot it kind of fun I miss it down there ?
Big Bad Wolf was my FAVORITE ride - and I'm a thrill seeker. Loved the face spray near the end over the water. Very smooth ride. Amazing how the replacement - Verbolten - is more jerky and painful than even Drachen Fire was. Why can't the replacement be as good - or at least horrible - instead?
No!!! Tell me they didn't get rid of it. This was such an original and fun roller coaster. To this day I can't think of any others like. Funny story, when I first rode it I nearly ruined my pants at 2:19 -- I thought we were going to hit the support post on the right :)
Will Holbert Big Bad Wolf was my first, I was so upset when it got torn down. When I was 6, it was the only roller coaster I would get on because it was the only one that didn’t scare me. Sucks it’s gone, but the memories remain. I got on it 3 times I think, I’m not sure the exact number.
I also can't remember the same. It may have been this one. It was a hanging coaster and it was dark. I was like 5 or 6. I'm almost 23 now. It was a long time ago.
yeah, but not every ride can last forever, all good things come to an end, verbolten is a great ride, and i love how it pays homage to the bbw. maintinence was too expensive for bbw though, and it isnot verboltens fault that it was the ride put in bbw's place
John Griswold what the fuck?!!? Ok dueling dragons was a shell and hagrids has vastly outdone it, volcano had to be removed, the ride had been a maintenance nightmare since it opened and time finally caught up with it, and astroworld, well I’ll give you that one, but being done with amusement parks over that is a bit much, you can still go to six flags over Texas and fiesta Texas and sea world San Antonio, come on be reasonable
BGW isn’t the same without the wolf. What a legendary ride. Loved the sound the wolf made as you were swinging through the forest! Also who couldn’t love the sound of the lift chain and antirollbacks. Really miss this ride.
I did not realize this ride was taken down. I rode and enjoyed bigger, badder roller coasters, but there was something special about The Big Bad Wolf as long as you sat in the front with your eyes open. Any other row, you missed too much.
I think they took this one down to build Verbolten which is just as good as this ride. Also this one was getting very old and it was hard to maintain it safely
Yeah, the wolf was torn down because after doing some research; its intensity, location, and lack of spare parts made it increasingly harder to maintain especially after its manufacturer went out of business in the early 2000s. I do consider Verbolten a worthy successor even tho I haven't ridden it myself just yet but I will change that at some point and ride it. I've seen countless POV vids of Verbolten and it seems like a fun coaster
As a huge coaster fan, I am going to Busch Gardens for the first time. I am vety excited to see some of the rides on here, become reality to me. I always wanted to ride Griffin and many others. This will be something i would never forget. Thank god my wish came true.
It's kinda sad to see this beloved Arrow suspended coaster go, but it's good to get a virtual ride of this on TH-cam! At least, I have ridden Iron Dragon @ Cedar Point. I am planing on doing the last other two, The Bat from Kings Island and Ninja at Six Flags Magic Mountain. :)
I was scared of coasters as a kid. This was my mom's favorite one at the park. Many times she couldn't ride it bc I couldnt be left by myself. Fast forward, it was 2009 and I was 9yo. BBW was closing. Permanently. It was the end of the day at BGW and we had just enough time for 1 more ride. I finally got up enough courage and I rode with my mom the very last ride Big Bad Wolf would offer in it's history. I wasn't a happy camper overall afterwards bc I still needed to be broken into coaster and seeing this video now, it's a kiddie ride to me. But I love that I can say I rode the last ride ever of Big Bad Wolf. Next yr, BGW is opening a new coaster with a strong nod to this remembered family favorite and I'm hyped!
Not saying this wasn't fun and the terrain useage and last drop was insane, but, I really don't see the charm in this one. It was very much sort of a prototype, even though the actual prototype was "The Bat" (the original one). Like, the ones that came after it have been far better. I liked riding it but with the new Verbolten paying homage to the ending, aside from not swinging to the sides, I'm sorta happy they replaced it. And this is coming from someone who loves Arrow coasters old and new and there many innovation attempts that went much better than they got credit for (never got why people thought Drachen Fire was so bad).
I'm not trying to start anything, I swear(!), but there wss charm in this old ride. I mean, Busch Gardens has height requirements like all other rides and the basics. This was really the only coaster a, what, 9-10 year old, could ride under 48". (I think, to be honest, I was eight or nine myself when they took it out and I don't remember much of it.) Sure, there are other rides, but this was the only roller coaster, besides The Loch Ness Monster (which, for me, bangs your head on the sides quite a bit. I've gotten my fair shares of headaches from it. [They may take it out soon but maybe not, it is a pretty nice ride.]). It was my first roller coaster I rode on when I was younger and I don't remember much of it so this is a nice nostalgic video that jumpstarted my memory and I loved that ride. From what I could recall from my ten year old self, the track was broken and it was too expensive to just replace that one track so they just redid the coaster anew. Still, Verbolten is a great ride, I'll admit that, but the waiting lines for that ride are crazy long when the overflow parking starts filling up (I know I had to wait 2 hours to get on it once!). And it doesn't help when you have to wait a minute for the A coaster to go before the B coaster does. The BBW was a fun ride, and I absolutely loved it when I was younger. It does seem to be quite the head banger now though, as I keep replaying the video. I guess it's just childhood memories that keep the charm in your mind. I don't know, maybe it's just me.
+Dashie calm down man verbolten is a tour threw the black forest in cars with 3 launches on big bad wolf there is no theme and you are hanging do they sound simalar
I'm not taking either side. I believe that they are both good rides in their own way. For example, the theming and track drop on Verbolten is awesome, but the drop into the river and the turns afterwards don't even compare to Big Bad Wolf's. Big Bad Wolf was pretty amazing and well loved. Verbolten is also great, but I wish it could have been put somewhere else. I have to disagree with you on the theming, Luke. Big Bad Wolf had theming throughout the whole first half of the ride. The ride swung through a Bavarian village...
I remember seeing this as a kid in the late 80s or early 90s. Before the rides started running for the day we stood near the station trying to figure out why the track was upside down. We did see it run and then got to go on it. What a ride it was!
I feel like roller coasters are not just rides, but historic feats in engineering. They should not be regarded as just "an old ride that ran it's course". For shame Busch Gardens. It was a mistake to remove this. Preserve the vintage roller coasters! RIP my first coaster.
I had the honor and privilege to be on this bad boy. Was an awesome coaster. It will be dearly missed.
Jim Gahn This was my first roller coaster that I ever went on. I hated to see it go, but Verbolten is a cool ride too.
This big bad wolf boy
Same here I rode it when I was six or seven with my uncle and I loved it and it will be missed but I love verbolten
Amen, it was incredible
Apparently I went on it when I was 3 or 4
The second drop is roller coaster legend. I'm glad the new ride pays homage to that.
+David C I agree
There's even a story that you're being chased into the Black Forest by the wolf and all through the forest you're still being chased until you're at the drop track where you see it's red eyes in front of you.

Been on this at least 50 times. Thank you for the blast from the past!

I loved this ride back when it was still in the park!
I wish they never got rid of it! I would ride it like 20 times in a row!
The night time was the right time to ride this one, and the drop at the end was the icing on the cake!!! SMH! Truly missed.
Sounds the same for Verbolten, it's night ride is AMAZING!
Natasha McHattan why be rude? It’s not that serious. I’m glad you learned how to spell.

This coaster, along with Loch Ness Monster was one of the very first coasters I rode when I was 4 to 5 years old...1989 to 1990. Miss it.
I will never be able to truly love or accept Verbolten because I know it replaced the Wolf.
yeah, but not every ride can last forever, all good things come to an end, verbolten is a great ride, and i love how it pays homage to the bbw. maintinence was too expensive for bbw though, and it isnot verboltens fault that it was the ride put in bbw's place
Ashleigh Elizabeth it’s not verboltens fault the wolf closed in 2009 verbolten opened in 2012
You dumb ass people think it’s verboltens fault. Like if a building gets destroyed you don’t just have a big gap you build another one
Verboten is really great tho
John Griswold what the fuck?!!? Ok dueling dragons was a shell and hagrids has vastly outdone it, volcano had to be removed, the ride had been a maintenance nightmare since it opened and time finally caught up with it, and astroworld, well I’ll give you that one, but being done with amusement parks over that is a bit much, you can still go to six flags over Texas and fiesta Texas and sea world San Antonio, come on be reasonable
FINALLY I found the first big roller coaster I rode when I was little!
I loved this ride SO much; I really want to go back.
RIP Big Bad Wolf
I've never been big on roller coasters, but this was one of the few coasters that I could ride and not be terrified haha. I miss it.
Who's here after the announcement of Wolf's Revenge? 🖐
Me me me!
I’m so excited for the new one!
i really miss this ride i still cry to this day cuz it was my all time fave ride here
Trim brakes on the legendary second hill :((
yeah, Im doing a re-creation, And I had no Idea Trims were there
My first roller coaster... rode it when I was like 5 lol... I was devastated to know it's gone now, I really wanted to ride it yesterday.
big bad wolf was my first big roller coaster :(
BGW isn’t the same without the wolf. What a legendary ride. Loved the sound the wolf made as you were swinging through the forest! Also who couldn’t love the sound of the lift chain and antirollbacks. Really miss this ride.
I never got to ride this either :(
KaiTheGuy same
Ditto. I went to the park in the early 80's but my daughter was too little to go on..😌😕🤷
I did not realize this ride was taken down.
they should've put verbolten somewhere else in the park
chevy_2001 Yeah, but Verbolten is OKAY there. At least, it imitates BBW's big drop on the Rhine River. :)
BryceFourn 2001 that is cool how they recycled the footers of bbw
chevy_2001 IKR? And that's a tribute to the legendary BBW. BBW will never be forgotten. :)
BryceFourn 2001 maybe b&m can start building suspended coasters like arrow dynamics did
I was scared of coasters as a kid.
This reminds me of Ninja at Six Flags Magic Mountain. That ride's just not the same now that all the trees are cut down........
I know, right
My all time favorite ride.... so sad to see it go..Thank you for another "flight"
Say what you want. I like verboten and I've ridden both.
Jake Ingersoll I like verboten to
I think it's just a matter of sentimentality.
This was my first coaster ;( Went back last year to compare it from when I was six to now and it was gone...ruined my day!
Well, I was wrong. I looked it up and it closed in 2009. I was actually only 7 when it closed down. Woops. My memory isn't the best.
best arrow dynamics suspended coaster i have ever ridden
verbolten is........aiiight.....I guess. BIG BAD WOLF, on the other hand was a legend, STILL IS!!!!
This one was always my favorite. It was so well thought out.
verbolten is better
+Luke Whitten VERBOLTEN IS A PIECE OF SHIT ITS A DIRTY CHEAT RIP OFF OF THE BIG BAD WOLF!
+FanOfVacuums2 good point
No. The verbolten is a piece of shit. Ride it yourself, you'll agree with me
I remember seeing this as a kid in the late 80s or early 90s. Before the rides started running for the day we stood near the station trying to figure out why the track was upside down. We did see it run and then got to go on it. What a ride it was!
ahh! I just got nostalgic for BBW! 🥺 truly missed!
This was one of the most unique rides of all time.
I'll miss this roller coaster!!! it's one of the most "unique" i've been on!!!
It was the best suspended coaster, and my favorite Busch Gardens coaster after Apollo's Chariot. I certainly will miss it!
Awesome rollercoaster!!! Wish it was still there.
I feel like roller coasters are not just rides, but historic feats in engineering. They should not be regarded as just "an old ride that ran it's course". For shame Busch Gardens. It was a mistake to remove this. Preserve the vintage roller coasters! RIP my first coaster.
