I love my mahina merfin! Its my first mermaid monofin and I dont feel like i need a full tail or anything else. I am happy with just the merfin. It is so powerful and I swim so fast in mine. I can swim 25m underwater in one breath. I have the childs small i believe (tiny feet), Faith do you know if the black adult one is larger than the childs? = more propulsion? TIA x

I received my own Mahina last week and it's my first monofin. I'm really GLAD with it. So powerful! The only issue I have are that terrible blisters on my ankles. I've got to use neoprene socks. But... it's my first contact with mermaiding and it's really GREAT!
commenting to add: when i ordered my mahina merfin, i accidentally typed the wrong address, as i had moved recently at the time of purchase. the company was more than willing to work with me to fix the issue, and even sent out an email after it showed up (after about a month) to ensure i got my fin. I LOVE the fin and the company, they do amazing things! (and of course, my lil emo merman self is planning to get the black one sometime in the future-)
i’ve been eyeing up their monofin for two years now and i finally ordered one a few hours ago! i found a really good eco friendly brand that sells tail skins that fit mahina monofins perfectly!! pricey but sooo worth it!
Finally swam in the Mahina I got. Not in the same environment as the other fins (lap pool), rather in a lake. Visibility was to about arm's length, but swimming over the bottom, where I could see sand and the odd weed zipping by, I felt the Mahina is quite fast, faster than any other monofins I have (Luna, Fin Fun). Easy on, easy off (I could just pull a foot out with a wee wiggle, but there was no slipping as I swam). I have the large size Mahina, have tenish or elevenish feet with lumpy base joint to big toe. The Mahina foot pockets work well. Seemed a hair snug, but I'm using light neoprene socks (2 mil?). No rubbing with the socks. No cramping. Your experience will vary according to your specific physical needs and quirks. One's feet are close together in the Mahina while being farther apart in the Luna. I didn't have a problem with this, but some might find that less comfortable. The fin is a little more resistant to the mermaid rolling and spinning (not as agile as the smaller fins in a few moves)(or maybe that's just practice) because it's so BIG. It's also fast because, so BIG. I pretty much adore it. Still keeping my Luna tho...
I did not break all my ankles... I have to add a few experiences with the Mahina: when I first tried it, at a local lake, it went on fine over my neoprene socks, and I watched underwater weeds whipping by at a great rate. When I took it to the pool, I had various trouble getting my huge wide feet into the largest size they make... socks of any sort stuck and pulled on my toes. Yesterday, went to a beach on the Chesapeake Bay with friends. The wind was coming ashore off the bay with a few miles of fetch, nice big rolly sploopy waves but not quite like an ocean beach. Took the Mahina for a spin... A. zero trouble getting it on (was it the baby powder, that should have washed off???). B. Fabulous fit. C. Fabulous power; I could easily swim around in the waves, get up to "surfing speed" (like I do in the kayak) and surf in. Disclaimer here: I got an advanced open water scuba certification and have been swimming with fins and a dolphin kick for years. I had used the Mahina in calmer water before and knew how it worked. I also knew the beach I was on very well (a sandy, gently sloping bay beach, but with rocky breakwaters). This fin does have enough power to deal with conditions more challenging then a pool... BUT you need to know your water, your skills, and your limitations. And I still wouldn't play in harsher ocean surf.
I do own neoprene socks and they rule! I got the ginormous LARGE because I have huge feet with arthritic big toe joints which can be rubbed by tiny foot pockets. Thanks for talking about the unbending, my fin came in a half opened box dumped on my front doorstep. I have not yet swum n it, but it does fit fabulously. I have a tiny budget, and got one... investing in a good fin is useful. My other fins are nice but I'm looking for a bit more power. I have no problem getting in and out of it.

I've been thinking about getting this fin, however my biggest concern is the amount of propulsion I'd get from it. I'm used to using the competitor, and I don't really want to sacrifice mobility for aesthetics.

I just got a mahina Its the first monofin I've ever used and I can't believe how fast I can swim with it and how easy it is 🙂 I've never used a monofin before so wasn't sure what to expect (was kinda worried I'd accidentally drown myself 😂😂) but found it easier to swim with it than without one I'm now obsessed 🤣 planning to make my own tail to go with it out of scuba knit and silicone xx
Heyy faith! Nice vid, as always! In my personal opinion, I think a tailskinm would suit it nicely! But instead of going around the fin, it should go in that "V" shape down the fin and connect at that little corner in the center. Just my opinion. Thx for reading!

I know I'm commenting on quite an old video but I hope I get my answers here. I've been planning to get a Mahina but I'm concerned about the sizing accuracy and fitting. For reference, I have a Women's US 5 shoe size. The adult monofin's smallest is at US 6-8; but the kid/junior monofin's largest is exactly US 5. Is a size-up necessary for a better, comfier fit or do I stick with my real foot size? Either way, I'll be wearing 3mm neoprene socks with it.

Swimtails has tails to fit the Mahina. I know there’s some controversy on them right now. As of last week the customer service did quickly respond and resolve a problem I had.

The merfin inside a fabric tail, makes it very heavy and a little harder to swim in, if you're not used to the merfin yet.

I cut the tips off mine and reshaped the scalloped edge.
Do you recommend getting a little bigger size or and exact fit ? The Med. Would fit like a glove . ... it would be my 1st monofin.

You can get a mermaid-tail-skin for the mahina from magictail. They offer most of their designs in a size that fits this monfin ;)

Elijah Batty blue color tail so the mono fin won't be as visible unless there is a hidden zipper on the tail then for me I would get green.
