Traditionally lucozade was brought from the chemist in a glass bottle with orange wrap around it and parents gave it as a pick me up when you were ill. Over time the company made flavoured drinks in cans and bottles. Elderflower Fent can be drink on it's own or use as a mixer with vodka or gin. A shandy traditionally is beer and lemonade mixed, you can also get lager shandy. The cans you buy in the shops are for kids and have no alcohol so not to be confused with one from the pub that's alcoholic lol.

I love Fentimans Elderflower. I don't really drink much alcohol (I know! I'm a disgrace to British drinking culture 😀), so drink it in place of wine with meals. I'm in the south so don't know about it's availability everywhere but it seems to be most easily found in gastro type pubs and restaurants rather than general pubs.
As others have said, Lucozade was marketed as a health drink/tonic. It was in a glass bottle with an orange cellophane wrapper, bought in chemist shops.

I'm in Cornwall, and there is a lovely local Cyder farm (Healey's) which also sells several varieties of wine made from assorted fruits/flowers, and I used to love a bottle of their Elderflower Wine, which was fairly low alcohol (around 4%) but very similar taste wise to a sparkling Elderflower Presse. They also produce various whiskey's and some wonderful Apple Brandy and make some lovely Vintage Ciders (Hard Cider for the US folks, as we don't really have "Soft Cider" over here, just apple juice) which are aged in Jack Daniels barrels, Whiskey barrels, Brandy barrels etc (different barrels for different varieties, they were an accidental success from using Cider to "clean" the Jack Daniels barrels before using them to age the Appe Brandy).
I think Elderflower is a bit of an acquired taste, but I love it. I have a bottle of Elderflower Syrup in the fridge which I mix with sparkling water (Soda Stream) to make my own version of the Fentimans drink. At it's simplest, Elderflower Syrup is made from simply Water, Sugar, and the Flowers themselves (which are the flowers from Elder shrubs/trees, which later become Elderberries if fertilised)

Lucozade originally had one flavour and it was marketed as a pick-me-up and often given to children with the common cold.
The fruit flavours and sports drinks are modern variants.

When I was a child… a loooong tiiiime ago …. 😉😳🥺 Lucozade was v v expensive and was considered as a “liquid medicine” and I was only given it if I was really reallly, like REALLY ill! The bottle cap was covered in a bright orange film and stuck to the bottle and part of the recognition of me being “really ill” was the slow ceremony of removing the orange film and u screwing the cap, I was never given a WHOLE glass of the drink, as it had to last because it was expensive compared to other bottles of fizzy pop. The advertising literature claimed
That Lucozade was gentle on upset stomachs and would help someone suffering from nausea!

Back to Lucozade, in the 60s, 70s, and 80s if you had to go to the hospital or the doctors for anything worse than a checkup, you'd almost certainly get a glass bottle of the original Lucazode to 'help' your recovery. Lucozade original and orange are the standard 2 flavours you'll find in most shops, then some shops do other flavours like Cherry, Apple, Lemon, during the summer there's a strawberry and watermelon flavour, there are also still versions called Lucozade Sport which are good if you're doing exercise or running, the standard 2 flavours are orange and raspberry, then there's other flavours that appear now and again

The other flavors sound good. I think our store only carries the orange.

I just told Ross - he is cutting back on his favorite drink!

Sorry....just fact checked myself, It used to contain BVO (a flame retardant),it was removed in 2020.
I also love soda (fizzy ribena my favourite) but rather than cut back I dilute it 50/50 with fizzy water.the original now tastes too sweet.
Give my regards to Ross, enjoying your reactions, hope you make it over to the UK soon.

@@panchomcsporran2083 we haven't seen fizzy Ribena here, but we do like to mix the cordial with sparkling water. We do hope to make it to the UK someday!

Used to love the original lucozade in its orange cellophane wrapping - almost worth getting sick for! Not so sure about the orange flavoured one though?
