    I shot all comparison footage within one hour in the same location using DJI ND-Filter 16, mp4 file format and H.265 Codec. Settings were same with all profiles: 23.97 fps, 1/60 shutter speed, ISO 100, WB 5600K. Couple of shots accidentally with shutter speed 1/100.
    B-Roll footage is shot with my Canon EOS M6 Mark ii & Kit lens & Variable ND-Filter using gimbal.

    Would be interesting to learn which profile you use and why? If you want to find out my d-log color grading workflow, check this video th-cam.com/video/YWeA50bgU7s/w-d-xo.html

      I prefer to use D-LOG M most of the time, but I'm not always sure how to approach the post editing. I always start with setting black and white, saturation, and then move to anything else I think it might need to keep it as realistic as possible. What is your workflow for editing D-LOG?

    • @JouniJuhani
      @JouniJuhani  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@deanbush Same, I use it most. Sometimes post processing result is good, sometimes not so good. Though, I usually am after some other look than realistic, but the color correction phase should be the same anyhow. I have a video about my whole D-log color correction/grading workflow if you want to check that th-cam.com/video/L1ZLTpn6wCE/w-d-xo.html . I think that explains more than I can write here. But the approach of yours seems start in the same way I do.

    Your shots are incredible. Love the different gradings. Im not sure if I should shoot slog or not. What do you think? I should slog3 with my main camera so should I shoot slog with the drone or nah?

    • @JouniJuhani
      @JouniJuhani  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks a lot Phil! It depends of the use. If you are color grading your footage in post, d-log is at least what i like to work with. Probably you are if you use s-log. If you want minimal work in post, the normal profile is actually very good too. But as you see in this video, the results I am able to get (i am not a pro) with different profiles are not so different, though I struggle a little bit with the HLG, that is the profile I have least experience with.

      Thank you! Do you use premiere pro? You can try the tutorial on my channel, and if that helps. I dont really use hlg so no solid opinion on that. D log works for me. Underexposing and getting noisy shadows is something I try to avoid when shooting.

    This, plus discovering how easy color correction and grading are (Photoshop former ninja), mean DLog is the one for me. I wonder about all the clips marked "Cine." On my screen they all had a lurid green color cast. I bet I'm missing something, as I don't see any value to Cine settings.

    • @JouniJuhani
      @JouniJuhani  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The cine clips were graded in premiere pro lumetri with purpose to get strong teal and orange look and with obviously limited grading skills. Grading of course is always about what you want achieve with the look you create. In this video I wanted to show a version of classic "cinematic" teal and orange sample grading with the skills I had that time.

  • @mostlyshenanigans

    The HLG would look much different if it was a HDR Video. As this is an SDR video, the HLG will just be showing the SDR Version.

    • @JouniJuhani
      @JouniJuhani  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That is true. Here you can see what happens when you shoot hlg and export rec709 from premiere pro without any adjustment (and with some adjustments).

  • @aloeisthestuff9622

    I really don't understand WHY. The color graded all look like the Plain video from the card. I just don't get why all the extra work is input to make it look like it was just shot it with default settings.
    The majority of viewers of pics/vids are looking through a small grease covered screen and couldn't tell good from bad anyway.

    • @JouniJuhani
      @JouniJuhani  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you are after realistic videos then I see little or no reason to shoot other than default. Personally I enjoy grading process and usually want to be able to adjust the footage as much as possible in post so dlog is usually my choice.

      You mean drone? Yea, it really is fun flying and drone indeed adds creative possibilities. If you have the possibility, I would from my own experience sincerely recommend purchasing one. For example with mavic mini 2 you can get really impressive results with a relatively small investment (compared to Air 2s or something like mavic 3).

      @@JouniJuhani dont get me wrong its a cool effect just seemed very agressive. Love the video btw. I was looking at the air 2s or the mini 3 pro. But i am yet to see a proper 10bit HDR video on youtube from a mini 3 pro. Plenty of them state hdr but they are not as none of my oled TVs trigger HDR mode. Plus the air2s has some advatanges as well great unit.

    • @JouniJuhani
      @JouniJuhani  ปีที่แล้ว

      Ok, but yea, I agree, its quite aggressive. Thanks! I have neither come across such video. If you are now buying drone, be careful with the classification system. I am not so familiar with it but I think at least in europe there is coming a new system where drones have to have some c marking etc. Which would mean that after 2022 flying with air 2s will be more restricted because it does not have the required classification.

    Graded colors look artificial, I personally don't see the attraction, and prefer the standard, tbh

    • @JouniJuhani
      @JouniJuhani  ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree, standard gives really good balanced and realistic look. I personally am little bit twisted with my taste and and like unique, absurd, unnatural, even drastic and different looks. Additionally I am an unexperienced amateur in grading but trying to learn and level up my skills all the time. Those graded versions were made with my teal and orange dlog grading process in premiere pro that I used at the time when video was published. And I agree it looks artificial, maybe somewhat "cinematic" though. I guess lot of artificial effect comes from that at that time i did not know how to preserve clear blacks and whites while creating teal and orange grade.
