You have got a point there, and thank you for the kind words! Color grading is my favorite part of filmmaking process. I believe you and anyone else can achieve this level of grading through good tutorials and experimenting.

You are welcome! Yea, this phone definitely works great for a cinematic filmmaker. Managing the the shake with the zoom lens is maybe the biggest challenge compared to non mobile cameras.

Thank you! Do you use premiere pro? You can try the tutorial on my channel, and if that helps. I dont really use hlg so no solid opinion on that. D log works for me. Underexposing and getting noisy shadows is something I try to avoid when shooting.

For me the video quality and options in xperia 1 iv are really good compared to my budget mirrorless Canon M6 Mark 2 but with photos I prefer the canon over the xperia 1 iv.

Thanks! That sounds nice! I could make a simple tutorial of my workflow so you would at least get similar results as I do. What format do you shoot with the 1 iv and with what app? Do you use Davinci for grading or something else?

I shoot in HLG H.265 with cinema pro. And yes, I use daVinci for grading.

The problem is somehow the footage looks washed out and it doesn't look as good as it looks on the phone.

Something you could try is try with following 1. settings: File -> Project settings -> Color Management -> Color Space & Transforms: Set Timeline and Output color space to Davinci WG/Intermediate 2. Then go to color tab and add a correction node and add "color transform" effect on it. Then in the choose Input color space "Rec 2020" and Input Gamma "Sony S-log". Output color space and gamma set to Rec. 709. This should give a good starting point at least. Then you can fine tune with any of the tools provided on color tab/page. In this video I show my grading process for DJI Air 2s step by step. And what I use for Sony Xperia 1 iv is similar except those color space tranform input values that are different. th-cam.com/video/zy6ZBg_7mEE/w-d-xo.html

If you are after realistic videos then I see little or no reason to shoot other than default. Personally I enjoy grading process and usually want to be able to adjust the footage as much as possible in post so dlog is usually my choice.

That is true. Here you can see what happens when you shoot hlg and export rec709 from premiere pro without any adjustment (and with some adjustments).

Three different lenses. Sirui Anamorphic 35mm, Sigma 16mm f1.4 and canon ef 75-300mm.

Wow, thanks for the overwhelmingly kind words! I dont use Venice. There is a mix of settings in this video. Most regular speed shots with videography pro app using hdr wide dynamic range and most slomotions with cinema pro 120 fps and no look (N/A). These are shot some handheld and some with a tripod. I tried using osmo 5 but it was too small and light for this phone. Also with the zoom lense shaking is hard to avoid. I use hoya variable nd 67mm with moment filter adapter.

I dont have solid technical argument to give you here, but.. For me, I feel that with polar pro cpl filters (have not tried nd without cpl) I get better final quality image and footage that behaves better in post processing (colours and tones etc). So I tend to use my polar pro filters always. Except when I need 64nd, then dji. Photography sometimes without filter. And I have a little bit difficulties with dji filters causing a magenta color cast which for me at least is somewhat tricky and painful in post processing.

What do you nean by true colors? If you mean grading, the video includes also clips where only basic correction is done without any creative adjustments .

What you see in this video is all taken with "time-lapse movie" video mode. Settings: 1. Custom interval: Usually 10 to 30s. 2. Rec size 4k. 3. Auto exposure fixed at f1st frame I Manually set shutter, iso and aperture. Most of these are shot using long exposure times like 5s to 20s. That is possible with 10 stop nd filter that I used a lot. The raw workflow gives better quality and more possibilities in post prosessing but is also really data intensive.

Thanks, I really like the picture coming from this lense! Though, manual focus is a bit hard in some circumstances for hobbyist like me with no lidar etc.

Im not sure what you mean. I expose for highlights manually with histogram and adjust iso or use nd-filters.

@@JouniJuhani normally when u expose log profile you need to expose even brighter to maintain most of the dynamic range in slog it's like + 1.7 or 2

@@JouniJuhani %100, in log profile you can save highlights easier than shadows so u should shoot overexposed. I just don't know the sweet spot
