QUICK TIP: To mix the bucket just make sure the lids on tight and shake it for 30seconds. Also be careful the bottom of the bucket can be hot so use a towel.
I love this recipe and tried it for the first time last week. So far the spawn is taking to it great. I was wondering...I also have gypsum on hand...how much would you recommend adding to this recipe?
How do you know what mushrooms need manure? I have 5 different kinds going right now that are going to need to be put to substrate soon. But idk if they need coco or manure based.
Here's a question do you honestly call that course grade vermiculite that's the finest vermiculite I've ever seen in my life I wouldn't even know where to get vermiculite that fine and I've been growing mushrooms for like 20
Thank you for responding, now I have 2 jars that are passed fully colonized for sure and have been waiting to purchase verm but is there a point where its too far to just scoop the mycelium out of the jars and set up the coco coir or should I just fruit out of jar?@@SporenSprout
no worries my man, I learned that you just scoop it out and colonized jars can last a long time before you have to move to fruiting or spawning bulk substrate
I’ve used the leftovers in the closed bucket up to 1 week after making and it was fine. If you want to store it longer I would sterilize in the pressure cooker. Re-pasteurizing will probably mess up the water content
It should be used within 1 week because it is only pasteurized. If you want it to last longer (1-3 months) you should dump the substrate into filter patch bags and pressure cook them for 1.5 hours.
I recently took the rest of a batch that was 4-6 weeks old but was stored in a bucket with a lid on it and had enough for a shoebox. I didnt want to boil water and redo, so I put it in a container with lid and put it in the Micro for 2 cycles @ 50% power for 5 min each with a 2 min pause between. It came to 165F and held with lid on for at least 10 min. It worked out great!@@SporenSprout
God, I love TH-cam. Thank you for sharing

Interested to know what type of mushroom can use?

The ones that “need” manure can grow just fine on this coco coir substrate. They would be more potent if you added manure though.
@@SporenSprout quickest reply ever. Thanks a ton!

Yeah it does seem pretty fine but that’s what the bag says: amzn.to/49cr0E1
Does this work with chestnut and pioppino mushrooms or does it have to be hardwood pellets?
It does work for both of those species but they perform better with oak pellets. This substrate is mainly for cubes.
That is what I was thinking but wasn't 100% sure. Thank You@@SporenSprout
Does this produce field capacity or does moisture need to be adjusted??
It is field capacity
Can I use this mix for Jack Frost? Or golden teacher?
Yes
@@SporenSprout thank you!!!!
do we have to use vermiculite or would it work without it?
It will work without but the vermiculite makes the substrate airy so the mycelium grows fast.

@@SporenSprouthey Brodie I seen you said it makes it airy couldn’t you , just use perlite the white looking things ?
@@brandonoliver4443 No you shouldn’t use perlite. Perlite is for the bottom of a shot gun fruiting chamber
Do I have to re pasteurize whatever is left to use again?

How would you sterilise in pressure cooker? Would you need a unicorn bag or something to put it in?
How long can you keep it stored and still good?, any estimates?

@@jclark2019 this worked with 0 contam issues?
stropharia rugosoannulata can grow in this substrate?
It prefers a partially decomposed substrate/compost and casing layer of old peat moss.
Many quarts of sub does this make
8-10
About 4-5, 6qt boxes
Love you bro forgive my delayed ass
Get out of my brain. The timing of this couldn’t have been more precise lol
I am glad I’m right on time 😂. Thanks for watching! 🙏
Way short on water. And it wasnt hot enough. I bet you already found this out though.

Your correct more chance of contam this way you want to cook your substrate to over 170 oc
