I love Cody calling Anya an ex Fairy and both forgetting she was a Vengeance Demon. Honestly valid because there is so much going on sometimes its hard to keep track. One of the best Halloween episodes too. Buffy is one of the best series to show growing pains and life after high school without being "Everything is perfect and things stay the same".
4x3: Parker sucks. Harmony! When Spike said "I love syphilis more than you," my head canon is Harmony, with a puzzled look, is thinking "Who's Syphilis?!?" 4x4: It was a laugh riot at the end...but I have a question - did the kids who died actually die, or were they fine once the fear demon was squished?
- To be fair, Cordelia did call Anya a good fairy... A scary, veiny, good fairy. lol - Obviously wanting to give Angel the ring is a nice idea in theory, but what if he turned into Angelus again and was then unkillable? - Fear Itself is a fantastic episode with so many funny moments!
You're spot on that this season is leaning into the comedy, which is one thing I love about it. Despite any of its other faults, it brings the giggles. Also love it for giving us more Spike, and that's always a good thing...especially a shirtless Spike!
The Fear Itsef house is the Murder House from S1 American Horror Story. Writer David Fury said this was an homage to The Evil Dead, biy he never thought about how Giles with the chainsaw doubles the homage as his initials are ASH.
I always loved that the fear demon was tiny bc it's a cute commentary on how our fears are smaller than what we think, bt can seriously debilitate us in our lives.
"Spike's bringing more dominant energy." I think he wanted a contrast from Drusilla in his rebound. And since he was so obsessively devoted to Dru that she usually ended up in the driver's seat...
I don't know that they got more of a budget for music. I think it was more that since Warner Brothers realized that they had a great way to promote the artists on their record label by licensing their music out to the studios that make Buffy, Angel, (20th Century Fox) Charmed (Paramount), & others because they would be showing on the Warner Brothers network - the WB. I think that's why Piper ended up a night club owner in season 2 of Charmed instead of having a restaurant, so they would have a setting that made sense for the bands to perform in, like Buffy having the Bronze for bands to play at.
Ah, Anya and her very hilarious and adorable leporiphobia. 🤣It will be years before we get even a hint of why she's terrified of bunnies, but it's a good running joke in the meantime.
I can totally understand her phobia. They’ve got those hoppy legs and twitchy little noses. And what’s with all the carrots - why do they need such good eyesight for anyway?
I just binged watched this whole series in like 2 weeks and I am so excited to see you watch more! At the same time I'm like "nooo I've caught up already!". Love your reactions and can't wait for more!
Mercedes McNab (Harmony) had a minor role in the first Addams Family movie, and a bigger one in the second (it isn't clear if that's the same character though). She is great in both.
The Halloween episode reminds me of the radio silence portion of VHS. The way the doors and windows close and hands come out of the ground. Crazy. Cody coming in with the Arbor Day call out. 😂😂😂 “It’s a day dedicated to wood!” 😂😂
This season does have some really fun comedic episodes, enjoy them! When BtVS brings the drama, it REALLY brings the drama, so when it's funny, relish the funny.
Of all the things from this series Parker is the most realistic. I had a Parker in my life and it sucked how we hooked up and then never spoke to me 🤷🏼♂️
Happy "Buffy, the Vampire Slayer" Thursday evening with Sergio and Cody! 😊 It's time for two of my favorite season 4 episodes. Episode 4x03: It's the return of Spike, Harmony, and Anya! And Spike's looking for a specific gemstone. Episode 4x04: It's Halloween time once again in Sunnydale! Looking forward to the next reactions. 😊
The Harsh Light Of Day was an interesting episode in that we still see Buffy's innocence regarding men. It is interesting see a lot of reactors saying how much they liked Parker, even though he seemed totally too sweet and smarmy from the start. The Spike Harmony relationship shows how coercive and manipulative it can be by one partner over another. The Anya Xander one is also most interesting as it is Anya who is almost coercing Xander into a relationship where he is clearly still very innocent and is not particularly wanting it. Spike being reintroduced is great for the show as he is without doubt one of the best characters in The Buffyverse. The credits are somewhat of a spoiler for reactors but it is impossible avoid them as they run as the episode is being shown. It's a shame they can't run them after a major character is in the episode. This of course is a lead into the Angel episode In The Dark with the Gem of Amara
When you said hopefully,”Maybe Buffy will start to have a better time and enjoy college” HAH HAH… it’s Season 4 and you haven’t figured out that Buffy will never have a good time. The best you can hope for Buffy is about 3 minutes
I adore Anya. 💚 Emma Caufield is hilarious and Anya is a great addition to the Scoobies. 😊 I really like that Anya is very autistic coded as well. She's so blunt and doesn't always understand social cues. I didn't know that I am autistic (late diagnosed when I was 36) when I grew up/during my teen-years but now I do and I understand why I related to/love her so much now. 😍 Parker... well he needs to get eaten or at least suffer in a lot of pain. Hate that guy. 😡 Can't wait to watch your reactions to ANGEL tomorrow! ❤
I am absolutely loving your reactions you guys! I found your reactions 2 weeks ago, starting with this one. (I'm a massive obsessive fan of Buffy from back when it was airing, I've watchd a ton of different reactors, but recently I'd only been watching one and TH-cam wasn’t showing me yours!). After watching a few more season 4 reactions, I went back and started from the beginning with season 1. I'm terrible at leaving comments - I mostly have a big block in writing anything because of my ADHD - or I write huge comments 😆 But I am absolutely loving your reactions. So much energy and enthusiasm, l love to see the emotional responses from Sergio and the intelligent insights and predictions from Cody. As a queer person I am just loving watching a gay couple react to my favourite show! 🥰🤩😘 Not enough queer energy in Buffy reactions, loving it here! Sending queer love your way. I hope you see this.
Oh. Spike came much earlier than I thought. When you were closing your eyes for the credits last week i thought you'd have to close them for half the videos.
Few things I think are worth noting one. Xander doesn’t tell Anya to just dress sexy includes that she can dress scary and that that’s actually more traditional. And it’s not just blood that sets off the symbol on the floor, causing a haunted house for the fear demon it’s werewolf blood
The writer of 4x03 has mentioned that a cut scene was Buffy lamenting that she went so hard with Parker because she was proving to herself that she was over Angel, and that the let-down was extra hard because of that.
Oz playing guitar💚 Harmony biting Willow! Buffy’s scar from Angel 😭 Anya’s back. Love her bluntness. Spike! 🤯 Dumped for a fungus demon 😂 Liking Parker so he’s evil or gonna die if my tv track record has anything to say about it. Loving the music this season. Everyone getting it on this ep. Buffy/Joyce heart to heart 💚 Loved the costumes. PURE PARTY CHAOS! 🤯 Bunny Anya. Poor Oz trying not to wolf out. Everyone facing their fears. Giles randomly pulling out a chainsaw 😂 Not Giles with the slow instructions causing Buffy to free the fear demon. Actual size 😂 Absolutely loved the Halloween episode! Living for these reactions! This is one of my all-time favorite episodes of Buffy due to the really great Halloween-y feelings they filled it with! And of course the size of the demon is a reference to how small the things we fear end up being when we finally face them.
You guys have some great commentary on Willow and Buffy and everything you both stated is almost exactly the changes people experience in their 1st year of college, at least that was my experience 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾😎
I won't say it gets confusing. Buffy and Angel are two shows that are pretty much independent. There are some crossovers (like that phone call in the first episode), but generally you can watch either while only knowing that another exists and everything would still be clear. I can vouch for half of that statement, actually, since I completed Buffy first, before even touching Angel.
Agree with the last line. I finished watching Buffy and then proceeded to Angel. And could gather which episodes would have been the crossovers but I have good memory. It would serve well to watch like cody and Sergio are doing for People who have forgetful brains
I'm really curious if anyone else saw the similarity between The Buffy episode fear itself and the story from the original VHS where it's Halloween and they're climbing to the attic in an old house??
I have been waiting for yall's reaction to episode 4. Love this episode. It is on my Halloween playlist. Gachnar is one of my favorite villain reveals, and Buffy just steps on him. 😂
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 "How is arbor day not about to getting laid, it's a date dedicated to wood!" 🤣🤣☠️ How your man didn't even laugh at that is confusing, that was *hilarious*.
The one thing I always questioned with fear itself that they don't really answer: would any blood on the symbol have triggered this to happen, or was it specifically because Oz's blood is werewolf??
"this guys soul is still in tact" um, if he ever had one. i hate parker. but he's a perfect representation of the type of guy you meet as a young adult when you don't know better (and sometimes when you do) that the majority of people encounter at some point. he is one of the things you learn, not that sex has consequences, but you learn about people, and that not all are upfront. and that if you arent cool with a one and done you need to talk about intentions before you sleep with someone.
I might be in the minority, but I find Spike and Harmony hot together. Spike has great daddy energy when he chooses to use it. And yeah, laying out their inner issues so early in the season only makes it clear where everyone is coming from for this season’s character arcs.
Oh my God, yes! It's beautifully done for such an (oddly enough) low budget film. I think it was the first old horror film that made me cry at the end.
i LOVE the fear itself episode. its so well done. it really taps into their issues. and it has so many fun and funny things. anya in the bunny suit is iconic. and I love when giles "makes" a door with a chainsaw. and hey, the last thing that demon saw before it died was right up buffys dress. there are probably worse ways to go out.
So excited I'm a spike girlie was never an angel girlie. And as soon as yall liked Parker I was like oh no. Also I too love Anya. Love both of these episodes. Especially episode 4. One of the best series Halloween episodes. Watch it every year
This is when the Soundtrack for Buffy came out. It was a classic. I have it still. In this episode Biff Naked is the singer with her huge hit "Lucky ones"
I fuggin Hate guys like Parker. They Know what they're doing, using naive girls'/peoples' assumptions that all the attention & effort he gives them Pre-sex is going to continue/& escalate Post-sex. He's a manipulator. I've dealt with a different version of his sort before & it fcked me up enough that I decided to move 700 miles north (luckily I live in Ca, so I didn't have to change states, lol). Did I mention already how much I appreciate Shirtless Spike? And that he's my fav vampire I've ever seen/read about? (Eric from True Blood/the Sookie books comes in second, then Book Lestat) Fun Fact: Fav Werewolf is Lucien in Underworld, started my love of Michael Sheen.😅 🤘
Bunny Anya 😂 Not complaining but Giles with the poncho was "okay" back in the day, cultural appropriation still is a more recent topic to discuss and this episode is from the very late 90's. Loved the discussion at the end about Buffy and Willow new phase and their friendship.

She does a great cover of “nothing else matters” … “I love myself today” “moment of weakness” and “spaceman” are all good too!

So excited I'm a spike girlie was never an angel girlie. And as soon as yall liked Parker I was like oh no. Also I too love Anya. Love both of these episodes. Especially episode 4. One of the best series Halloween episodes. Watch it every year
im not ready for their reaction to episode 6
I loved Bif Naked.
Anya was a vengeance demon
Anya love ❤❤
26:56 no wait i don't get the joke. Please help!
Instead of saying "mi casa es su casa" (my house is your house), Oz said Casio (type of speaker)
The disrespect for the amazing Anyanka! 😂
From "The Addams Family" to "Buffy" Mercedes McNab has become a woman in so many ways.
This is when the Soundtrack for Buffy came out. It was a classic. I have it still. In this episode Biff Naked is the singer with her huge hit "Lucky ones"
🎬❤
Who does Parker remind me of? TED BUNDY.
yeah spike is hot.
Anya the ex-fairy 🤣
Well... Joyce's LAST boyfriend was teenage Giles.
Why is Spike like he is, but other vampires seem to have nothing but evil? Like Angel when he has no soul. Does Spike have a soul?
I fuggin Hate guys like Parker. They Know what they're doing, using naive girls'/peoples' assumptions that all the attention & effort he gives them Pre-sex is going to continue/& escalate Post-sex. He's a manipulator. I've dealt with a different version of his sort before & it fcked me up enough that I decided to move 700 miles north (luckily I live in Ca, so I didn't have to change states, lol).
Did I mention already how much I appreciate Shirtless Spike? And that he's my fav vampire I've ever seen/read about? (Eric from True Blood/the Sookie books comes in second, then Book Lestat) Fun Fact: Fav Werewolf is Lucien in Underworld, started my love of Michael Sheen.😅
🤘
Bunny Anya 😂
Not complaining but Giles with the poncho was "okay" back in the day, cultural appropriation still is a more recent topic to discuss and this episode is from the very late 90's.
Loved the discussion at the end about Buffy and Willow new phase and their friendship.
❤🧡💛💚💙💜🤎🖤🤍

"Still more romantic than Faith" the bar is so low
