Seeing Tommy & John 5 watch Def Leppard rehearse at the 4:50 mark is hilarious. Wonder if they’ll learn to actually stop using tracks and get a better singer after being upstaged night in and night out by the leps.
Some yank has posted on TH-cam that Def Leppard do NOT sing live. He is entitled to his view, I personally could not watch his entire video it just repulsed me so much. Spoiler Alert - as a lawyer, in law school we are HAMMERED 3 things: 1. facts; 2. evidence; and 3. context This bloke in his video on Leppard uses Phil's own verbatim words when he refers to the song "rocket" where Phil openly factually says yes for 'that' song special effects are used, they always have been. But Leppard are one of the few remaining bands where all except 'The Thunder God' - ALL band members sing their own vocals LIVE, period. And Viv is the 'best' vocalist after Elliot live. So if anyone does come across this clown my advice is if you want to buy his factual BS go for it - myself, having seen Leppard several times, sadly and I will go to my grave truly envious of anyone who ever saw the lyrical and musical genius of this band live in Steve 'The Riffmaster/Steamin' Clark - ever since they started Leppard have NEVER used backing vocals or ANY backing tracking for their set list. Fake bands like the fake KISS have been busted over and over by audience cell phones and yet Paul Stanley, the megalomaniac arrogant one time brilliant front man who like Bon Jovi his voice was gone 10+ years ago well Paul still denies using backing vocals. Ego much. Nikki from Motley, well the fake Motley with no Mick - well Nikki, despite contradicting himself on so many other issues for decades - even Nikki has admitted Crue have been using vocal tracking since "Lewd, Crued, and Tattooed", and prior to that gig, in 1987 in Tacoma, Washington, they had the two girls called "The Nasty Habits" who DID do a lot of their live backing vocals. But Leppard have ALWAYS brung it, brung in loud, brung it solid as, and Joe's voice, although with age is 'raspier', Joe still kills it. And BTW - it was 'Mutt' Lange during the "Pyromania" recordings who 'taught' Savage and Collin to sing, Steve also sang but not as much live. Phil especially has said he found it at first extremely difficult to sing 'and' play - but those were times decades ago. 'Mutt' is a genius. Leppard have another 10 years ahead if they want to tour and touring is where the insane money is, Leppard rake in nearly US $2 million per show, that is serious 'fuck you' money. - so when I objectively assess the band live, applying the 3 above criteria - Leppard are a genuine 100% hard rock band and thanks to Steve they have a back catalogue of stunning spine tingling iconic songs - and along with Van Halen, Def Leppard are the ONLY other band to have 2 different records certified RIAC 'Diamond' in the US. That = 25+ million for 'Pyromania' sold in the US alone. And 25+ million records sold for 'Hysteria' in the US alone. They are genuine legends who've been together 45 years. And they still have, pardon the pun 'a long....long way to go'..
