its probably not happening, but imagine if they just drop a actual battlefield game next. Like classes, maps that someone actually uses their brain to design, server browsers, all the game modes, the amount of content we use to get with premium. Would we even know what to do with ourselves anymore?

It probably is happening, they saw the utter cluster fuck 2042's release was, they'd have to be insane to allow that to happen again. These days the game is good but it was permanently affected by it's release. 2042 was developed over 3 years but more a less a year and a half due to Covid lockdowns, these past years there has been nothing in the way of development that I'm aware of.
Actually server browser is luxury today. Also the option to people "host" their own server like in the old days its rare nowdays with new games. Which is sad every game either online or with "matchmaking" no dedicated server community. I remember when i was young and always played one server because of the people there.

It'll be a disastrous launch as always with post patches sprinkled in throughout its life cycle. It's been that way since 4, and even after the PR disaster of 5 and 2042 I can bet my kidneys that they still won't give a damn about a quality day one for the 2025. It's either unwavering optimism or an evergreeen TH-cam meta to even hint at hope that Dice would be able to give people a good Battlefield game outright on launch
BF1 had a smooth launch though.
My expectations are low.. As they should be. Looks like it's gonna be another BF1/BF4 year for me. Let's just hope that EA makes the right choice next time...

Not gonna pre-order. In fact, I'm not even getting my hopes up. They have already made a statement about how the next game will be a reimagining of the Battlefield franchise. The exact opposite of what the community wants. Sounds like they haven't learned anything from 5 & 2042. We'll have to wait and see.

Good, that's exactly what I expected - giving next game more time in the oven while stretching support for 2042 up to season 8. We might see the sunset after that season with only a couple of months for the next game's reveal.
Another thing about delays: they don't really matter if there isn't a dedicated team of employees working at the game for all that time. It doesn't matter if a game has been "worked on" for five years if full-blown proper development only started under a year before release.
They need to make a 1960's based battlefield some vietnam sorta shit flying around in a chopper with acdc on dual gattling guns on the sides

The original release cadence was 2 years, not 3 years. Every October/November, two years apart.

It has been nearly 8 years since a bf game I enjoyed released. There would be 9 years of separation between a good bf game and a potentially good one. That would be totally fine but even during the live service of BF1 Dice was downward spiraling and got exponentially worse. So I ask, why the fuck should I care about anything EA, and DICE in particular, does ever again?
The management at DICE being adjusted does bode well, but we also saw that between bf1 and bfv, and again between bfv and 2042. I can't think of another way to say it, but that studio needs a god damn enema or it'll just keep producing turds, and I don't care if it's Vince Zampella or David Sirland that ends up tossing sprinkles on it.
Perhaps I'm rambling, but BF has always had an identity crisis and one of the primary issues the devs at dice have is putting too many systems into the game to support this case of multiple identities. They'd be much better off doing only a few things with a good amount of depth, rather than always trying to include everything they possibly can with almost no depth and even less functionality. BF1 did this quite well (and was, if nothing else, their most stable frostbite launch), BF4 didn't at first but the support that came after launch was more focused and that's part of why the game is well remembered. The sad part is that it's a perfect time for Battlefield to make a comeback, unironically. I just laugh at the idea that DICE could swing it.
BF1 didn’t have a live service. That was BFV. BF1 still had the premium pass which BF3 and BF4 did. For all the DLC. And let’s be real, BF1 post launch content was huge. Same with BF3 and BF4. Now if you didn’t like BF1 that’s fine. But as the game stands it’s was a good BF game. BFV tried the live service which flopped and its PR disaster was cringe worthy.
I'm using the term 'live service' anachronistically. Yes, I know they had premium pass for 50 dollars which we had for two games before that to, and before that we had DLC packs, and before that we had expansion packs. All roughly equating to 50 dollars total price for each games combined additional content, respectively. My point was that during the post launch support of the game through regular patches and additions of new maps, guns, and other content through premium(what I meant when I said live service) the game got worse.
And no, I don't dislike BF1, I would say it's my favorite game in the franchise. But after ITNOTT specifically, changes were made progressively that IMO hurt the gameplay a lot. And Yes, I also agree that the live service implemented in both BFV and 2042 is, simply put, ass. I warned people AT THE TIME (2016) that going this direction for games as a service would result in less and sloppier content but no one cared. Hell, even I didn't think it would be as bad as it is and not just for BF.

They need to blend BFBC2 with BF3, faction weapons, faction vehicles, and a focus on fun.

I still really want a cold war gone hot alt history battlefield. For all intensive purposes it would have everything battlefield likes to do, unique gameplay opportunities, experimental weapons (e.g EM2, TADEN gun etc), a creative narrative as far as you can get from 2042

Maybe they are just finishing the unreleased projects for future seasons beyond S7. I remember that Dice's original plan was to release 2 new maps for AOW for each season but in the end decided not to do that because they prioritised reworking all of the base game maps.
If the next battlefield game isnt the fully fledged fan service greatest hits of what was promised with portal they deserve to fail.
They have all the content in the world that fans want. Just give us all the previous games remastered with updated movement and gunplay and they have a guaranteed masterpiece on their hands.

Fall to holiday season 2025 has always seemed pretty obvious to me, especially since they're starting a whole new studio to participate in development. The amount of time it takes to staff up and then get all that new staff onboarded and setup studio policies, best practices and coding standards, getting SCRUM setup, etc. I actually think holidays 2025 is rather quick, even with a lot of that stuff likely getting inherited from other EA studios. This implies to me that we'll get a full year 3 (12 total seasons) of 2042 since it's the only title in the series with an active live service where they continue to make money from microtransactions.
Obviously still be very, very wary of the game(s) and definitely take anything anyone from EA says with a huge grain of salt.
I came back to 2042 many of my friends too. Gameplay is just the best in an arcade shooter.

Technically FY25 for EA starts in July 1 2024. They just had their 2024 Q3 meeting. I would have to hear the recording to interpret it correctly but yeah, November would essentially be Q2 2025. So who ever made the comment on BFB, needs to clarify if he said it will be released after FY25 or During 2025. Because the comment contradicts itself.
I've been thinking this myself. A lot of companies have different FY periods so it is possible it could drop this year but the way it was said makes it very unlikely. Either way we need to wait for more info and clarification.
They need to just focus on ADDING equipment and guns and attachments through all generations in all our warfare. They already got portal mode and no campaign explaining why they can have WW1 soldiers vs 2042 operators... Portal ... Time travel... A everything base for all classic guns and maps with increasing new future guns and maps

Soooo, end of 2026 for the playable version of this game and 2027 when we see our first content drop. I don't know if bf will survive another bad release. These days AAA developers don't seem to have what it takes to deliver a sound product and that leaves me sceptical over this next release.

EA & Dice want the BF franchise to actually mean something anymore? Go back to your roots and give us a modern shooter based on everything that was in the PC version of BF2 plus the games expansions. Hard class system with weapons specific to classes, meaning SpecOps is for Carbines + C4, Infantry is Assault Rifles & Battle Rifles + underbarrel grenade launchers or rifle grenades, Medic is for Assault Rifles & SMGs + defibrillator (only way to revive dead teammates) & med packs, Support is for LMG & SAW + ammo packs, Engineer is for Shotguns & SMGs + ATMG/RPG & anti-tank mines + wrench (only way to repair vehicles), and Marksmen is for Sniper Rifles & DMRs + anti-personnel mines. Maps like Karkand is what made the franchise. The issue with everything after BF2 for PC was EA & Dice trying to make a Call of Duty clone instead of focusing on the milsim-lite unique experience they provided, which was easier to get into, faster paced, than traditional milsims, yet was far more realistic especially when it came to the mood it put you in when compared to pure arcade FPS games like COD. The class system also forced a team to actually play as one, rewarding each class for doing its job. The ribbons and medals rewarded for each class & accomplishments also promoted players from playing each class. There was also the Commander, which would go to the highest ranked player requesting the role, one per side, and who would be responsible for weapon supply drops, as well as calling in artillery and vehicles to spawn like tanks, SPAAGs, helo's, and fighter planes. You'd get breathtaking situations like the maps where the US Marines would start on an aircraft carrier, forcing you to wait for you team's helo pilots to bring you to shore for an amphibious air assault, or you could go down to the well deck and have your platoon take a fast attack craft or LAV amphibious APC to sail to shore. EA would kill two birds with one stone by taking away from the arcadey FPS market for players looking for a more realistic experience where there games aren't full of "soldiers" running around in fictional player skins based on Hollywood movies, and would also take from the milsim market the players looking to hop into a more easily accessible game that's a bit less stressful that the traditional Arma 3 type game. The only gsme coming close to that BF2 for PC concept is Squad, which itself was actually based on a BF2 PC mod, but still Squad fails to offer the scale of the original BF2 on PC especially in BF2's first few years when the player base was still large.
Guys, don't give in to any dogshit buzzwords that EA is gonna throw out during the development time of the next BF game. Don't preorder, wait for release and watch the shitshow unfold. I beg.

I just want a more tactical and methodical Battlefield game (like the old BF2 which is still my all time favourite) rather than the knee sliding, grappling hook-ing, quick scoping, pink weapon skin-ing, team deathmatch-ing, arcade game this ip has gravitated towards. If I wanted that I would play Cod or Fortnite.
No I don't want a realistic war simulator, but sometimes less is more and making the game a little slower paced, more tactical and focusing more on squads, commanders and smaller playercount per server would make it more immersive and be a big win in my books.
Then again arcady shooters probably sell way better so I don't get my hopes up for this.
