I am so blown away by how you both are adapting. You can feel your love for each other in the videos. Please keep safe, and hoping all goes well with the post op appointment.
Yes! The visual parts of this are healing in the most awesome ways! Ed is strong and resilient right now. But he still has the emotions and feelings knowing that he stared cancer in the face. There’s still more treatment to come. It will be hard, but Ed has the strength and determination to makes these events something that he talks about in past-tense! 💪 😊
This recovery has been phenomenal! It’s just hard because it still has a scary undertone, and more treatment to come. While we can’t take those feelings away from Ed, we can celebrate his resilience!! So proud of him! 😊
Yes! We noticed that too. As the pain becomes less intense and more manageable, some of that expression comes back freely. We shouldn’t forget, they did have to cut the muscles in the scalp that help him smile. So it’s not that he wasn’t ever happy, it actually hurt to smile in the beginning! 😊 This is that strange progress that we talk about. Lol
It’s so wild! Especially in a tourist-saturated area here by Disney. But fortunately we started our shopping early, so we should be good to ride this one out! And thank you for hanging out with us for the updates. 😊
When you’re struggling and you’re just trying to enjoy something small and it gets spoiled, it feels so much more frustrating. Good luck to you both with the hurricane. Thinking of you.
Ed, your head movements are so much smoother and look less painful. Small increments and signs of healing are good. Love the shirt. You guys have such incredible good communication which can only be a huge positive in your situation. Continued positive thoughts and good vibes sent your way.
Thank you so much! Ed is recovering great, but this is still an emotional rollercoaster. Soon enough we will be on the other side of all of this, looking back at it in our past! 😊
I'm so happy to see you both every day! Cousin Jo-Ann ( my mom) is keeping up as well. Regarding the spilled coffee, as someone who's had several surgeries, it's ok to feel down about it. I totally get it! I've had times, post surgery, where I've looked forward to something simple and had it go wrong in some way...it's a bummer. Please don't keep saying how you shouldn't feel that way because you are both so fortunate. Everyone is allowed to be down about things in life, no matter how good your overall life is.
Thanks Brandy! I think that’s what we are trying to share too... it’s that we ARE fortunate in al of this, yet these small things STILL stink! Strange things can get any of us into a down mood when life is already stressful - and that is 100% ok and 100% human, no matter what your situation. 😊
Ed you look better every day and you sound more yourself! Please remember, when you are dealing with so much it's often the "little" things that throw you off. You guys are doing great. Jason, love your system on the medicine. Ed has the best husband. Love you two!
Hope you guys stay safe with this hurricane! I totally get the coffee spill woes - I was SO excited to get my Starbucks bday drink last month. So I got the venti - went all out, decided to be proactive and bring the coffee in first before doing it with the toddler in tote. And it totally blew up in my face - tripped up my front stairs. Coffee everywhere, including the front door 🤦🏼♀️ frustrated but then eventually found the humor in it and moved on. Also - I tried that Pumpkin Cream Cold Brew the other day. Game. Changer! I think it’s a nice change - it’s sweet, but not too sweet. 🎃
Thank you!! And yes, the coffee went all over the passenger seat area... where Ed was sitting. After a tough day, it was just the last straw of stress for us. And yay for team pumpkin cream!!
You don’t have to be positive all the time. It’s ok. You’re allowed you have been through a lot and that coffee is amazing. Lol. You have had a long week of recovery and you guys just wanted a small “date” outside to take your mind of everything and something so simple got taken away. ❤️💚💙
This is exactly it!! The week of recovery has been great. But that’s what makes the small bummers so much more impactful. They interrupt the upward trend. Thank you for always understanding and supporting us all along the way!! 😊
I am so glad for these updates. Without them I would be worried about you both. This way I can see Ed's progress the good and the bad. It ok to be mad. As always you to bring everything back to positive. I'm using the philosophy of you can do anything for 10 seconds. It is making my troubles bearable even though I know it could always be worse. Thanks for sharing this story with the world. Continued love and support!!♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
Thanks, Karen! While we do live by the 10-second philosophy, we can’t take credit for it. Lol. It comes from a great Netflix show: Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. “I learned a long time ago that a person can stand just about anything for 10 seconds, then you just start on a new 10 seconds. All you’ve got to do is take it 10 seconds at a time.”
Keep your heads up, thank you for sharing. I can only imagine how difficult everyday must be. Make sure your appreciate every good moment, good days and bad, just keep pushing through! I have faith that this stom will pass and not be as bad as people imagine, just prepare as best you can. 🥰💖🥰💖 hugs
Thanks, Lynn!! We do appreciate the good stuff all the time, but we also want to remind us all that it’s ok to have bad moments too. It’s normal! Lol We are hoping the storm continues to turn too! Especially when we know a bunch of our Disney family lives out on the coast! 😊
Okay first...looks like y’all have some dachshund in those pups!!! 😍 being owned by two dachshunds myself i know the joys (and naughtiness!). Doxies are hunting hounds and yes sir they sure are vocal! 😂 you will never have a more devoted fur baby though! They will jump in front of a train for you! Second-I hope you both know how totally okay it is for you to have alllll the feels. Especially as Ed’s brain is still rebooting and normalizing itself. It’s traumatic for both of you. Cancer sucks. The last thing you needed was a hurricane. And spilled coffee. Or people commenting on how “blessed” you should feel. I mean yes. Blessings abound. For sure. But the daily suck must be overwhelming at times. And that is going to be hard sometimes. But you don’t owe anyone anything. Y’all feel how you feel and roll with it however you do. Because it’s okay. As Ed just beautifully said “it’s okay to have a day”. Praying this storm creates as little hassle as possible for y’all. Pat those pups for me! ❤️❤️❤️
We are overwhelmed how you just summed up our thoughts! Thank you! The part that even we forget is that his brain has experienced the trauma of surgery and invasion, and is still normalizing!! Exactly right! And yes, dachshund/terrier mixes! Kal is more terrier on dachshund legs, where Splinter is more dachshund on terrier legs. Lol. They are our funny pups! (We didn’t miss the part where you mentioned that our dogs own us. Lol)
I live on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Do you have window protection? I don’t know how close you are to the coast. I am very close. Expect roads to be littered with debris after the storm and you may not be driving around the first day or two, so stock up. You might ask the Physician how barometric pressure may affect your patient?
Thank you! We are more centered in the state, so as you mention, concerns are winds causing debris that needs cleanup. In addition to localized flooding. We hope we can get Ed to his appointment, but are also realistic that it might not be the safest choice depending. We will assess it then. Also, thank you about that pressure question!! We will be sure to ask!
I am so blown away by how you both are adapting. You can feel your love for each other in the videos. Please keep safe, and hoping all goes well with the post op appointment.
Thank you. We are the strength for each other.
Stay safe during the storm and thanks for sharing this journey- it puts thing in perspective and makes you appreciate all the little things. :)
Thanks!! We are prepped for the storm, just a waiting game at this point. ⏰
Yes thank you so much!!!! Love you two🙂🙂🙂
Seeing Ed smile and is talking a lot better absolutely made my day glad to see recovery is speeding right along 😁

Ed you look and sound great!!!! 💙💙💙💙
Certainly better every day! 😊
Wow! Sucks about the coffee but can we talk about how Ed seems so much more like himself?! It's remarkable!
This recovery has been phenomenal! It’s just hard because it still has a scary undertone, and more treatment to come. While we can’t take those feelings away from Ed, we can celebrate his resilience!! So proud of him! 😊
This video made me smile because I could see Ed really smiling! What a difference a day makes!

Happy to see you out and about and smiling, sorry it did not last. Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day.
😊
I love these updates! It makes me very happy 🥰 This storm is crazy ... I work for Publix and it’s a madhouse! 🤦♀️
It’s so wild! Especially in a tourist-saturated area here by Disney. But fortunately we started our shopping early, so we should be good to ride this one out! And thank you for hanging out with us for the updates. 😊
I hear you Ed. I understand.
☺️

Thank you! 😊 That’s exactly the sentiment.

Ed LOOKS SO SAD! I feel for you. I don't even have the challenges you guys have and I would be frustrated.
Every day is a new challenge. But at least the two of us make a great team! 😊
