I don't know what I love most, the beautiful stained glass block, the use of tiny scraps, the honesty to the whole video, or your wonderful humor. I truly enjoyed the whole video and I can't wait to make a quilt using this great idea. Thanks so much for sharing this.
I just subscribed after watching only ten minutes of this stain glass quilt video because 1) it is a great video and 2) I love that you have no problem letting the world know you are human. I hope I enjoy the rest of your videos as much.
I'm so glad you showed the mistake with the camera shutting off and frustrated swearing. We usually only see the nice Tutorials like everything works out perfectly. Thanks, Connie
I have watched this video approximately four times and love every second of it! I will be trying this method, however, I need to finish quilts for my siblings, mother and myself. I'm working on a total of eight quilts. I've already finished one completely and I'm about halfway done with the second one. These aren't just any quilts through they're double-sided, so it will take me a little while longer! LOL I so look forward to trying your method with all of my scraps, and all should be capitalized! Thank you for sharing your talent with the world! Blessings to all in love and light!🙏🏼💜🙏🏼💙🙏🏼🧡🙏🏼💛🙏🏼💚🙏🏼
The difference between an amateur and a professional is they both make mistakes, but the professional knows how to fix them ! Thanks for showing quilters how to create professional results while dealing with mistakes.
Such a great tutorial! So easy to listen to & follow. Enjoyed your humor so much. Am new to piecing / quilting - can't wait to make stained glass blocks; I already have some fabrics in mind (scraps from clothes my daughters wore as youngsters)😁
What an elegant way to use up scraps. I love squares, rectangles, stripe’s because there’s absolutely no waste except for trim ( which I can use to stuff cat beds). So it’s a total “no waste “ project. And thanks for thinking about new quilters who might not feel comfortable free wheeling it and providing a pattern for them.
Fascinating process! I've never tried stained glass piecing, though I have done scrappy crumb piecing (including random wacky angles, not just straight lines). I'm so pleased that you shared your thought process regarding the various options you had in completing the block, instead of just arbitrarily choosing one and doing it. Hearing you think aloud certainly opened my eyes to seeing and UNDERSTANDING why you considered and rejected several options before making your final decision. My biggest stumbling block here would be not taking into account the size of the patterned fabric pieces after adding sashing -- I was startled to realize how careful you needed to be in sizing that top border! Lovely final block! I was smiling at the daisy fabric; I used that same fabric for a double 4-patch quilt that I made for my aunt in 2018. Sadly, she died in Nov 2021, but her son took a pic of that quilt still on her bed, saying she'd loved it so much that she always slept under it. She would have been thrilled to see "her" daisy fabric in your beautiful stained glass block! 😺💕🐾
Love, love LOVE this block! My OCD loves the scrappy, structured nature of this block! You may have also convinced me to try paper piecing, to see if it works for me! Thanks for taking the time to create and post this video. And, thanks for keeping it real!!!
I do love your blocks and your process. I have been trying to organize my scraps and have always loved, Loved, LOVED the stained glass look quilts. Thanks to you, I now know exactly what I am doing with a bunch of my scraps. Thank you sooooo much for your inspiration. 🙂 And thank you for explaining why you are doing what you are doing. So many don't do that. I really appreciate the way you teach your thought process.
This is the first time I have found you Samantha. You are a genius for figuring this one out in a way I can grasp it. A "real" quilter instead of having the quit police in your studio. Love your style. I have always admired this bock but was have been intimidated to try it until now. Thanks a bunch. Keep up the great vids.
I have made many crumb quilt blocks, even Drunkard's Path with crumb-pieced centers, but I never thought of added sashing to give them a stained glass look. Thank you for a brilliant idea. -- My son is getting married in 4 months and I wanted to make something totally different for him and his fiance, since neither of them are old-fashioned-granny-type-quilt people. I think this would make a very unique quilt that would be perfect for their personalities. Thank you. I subscribed so I can see more of your quilts.
I just finished hand-quilting my first full-sized quilt and, as relaxing and meditative as the process was, there were times that I sounded like a mule driver. These blocks are beautiful and go into the Someday List. Greetings from a Canadian kindred spirit. 😜
New sub here, new to quilting also, I don’t even have a sewing machine yet. You make it so easy to follow. I love the look of stained glass quilts, thanks for explaining how to do it, you made it look easy and very do able 👍🏽🙋🏽♀️ I too came for the quilting and stayed for the swearing 🙋🏽♀️😁😊
Really useful, I bought a sashed stained glass quilting kit three years ago, but couldn’t make sense of the instructions, it’s now clear! The swearing made me laugh, but the suddenly very loud noise of your intermission section startled me a lot more.😂
Love, love, love!!! I have been looking for something like this for my scraps. I have done crumb blocks but they seem too scattered for me. I love the clean design and the color coordination. I will definitely be doing these blocks. Thanks so much.
As someone who is a total rookie at making tutorials, you've totally made my day! I LOVE that you are just real and fun and imperfect!!! A breath of fresh air! And I am totally motivated to try these blocks! You go girl!
The dead battery discovery had me laughing so hard my sides hurt, then I automatically hit subscribe. I have felt the pain of camera malfunctions so many times…
Ok, so, it says thus was recording 3 years ago, but I just found you today, Aug 23, 24. I love your stained glass and your reactions to the "technical difficulties" 😅 thank you!!!
I just found this video, and I've been thinking about making a stained glass quilt. I absolutely LOVE yours, the colors, tutorial, everything! I have a question for you. Sometimes when you look at actual stained glass, there are some diagonal pieces too. Do you have any ideas on how to get that look?
I laughed out load when you started the profanity. Just like myself, and I’m glad I live alone, or someone would be shocked at this goody two shoes great grandma !
Excellent tutorial! Precise and not overly explanatory. So looking forward to future videos. You do a great job with your videos, creative and talented. Thank you for sharing!
I burst out laughing when i watched this - you sound just like me when I'm sewing! For a brief moment, i thought, "Oh, I should make a stained glass quilt for my nephew's new baby!" But now, I'm like, "Eh, eff that, I'll get them a gift card somewhere. This will take me forever."
this is my first video i watched of yours. im currently on surgery. im the mother of a sailor and one you cant leave on speaker lol. im dead.. new subscriber i love real people .
I have been working on a lot of QAL'S. I think that I am going to take my scrap bins out and work on my string and crumb blocks. Even if I only get a couple of each done tomorrow that is fine. Sometimes you just need a break from organized sewing 😁😊
Loved that you included your drama. Just proves $#!T happens to all of us! Had to try this method of skinny 'stained glass'/solder-line/cool-looking sashing. Yup, it really works. Yay! Thanks for tutorial. Sorry you had a 'sucky' moment, but glad you vented. Showed us you're totally normal and aren't afraid to share. Haha. Hey, you've got this YT camera/video stuff...so please keep it coming! :)
I have been back to view your lovely tutorial a few times. I find I making the same mistakes and choices you are. I am liking to use up my stash using this method. so far . You are the best.
😂😂😂 That was an amazing video from the quality, voiceover & putting the out-take right into the video. Bravo! I use bad Navy language, too, but I don't have a bleep sound effect. 🤷 Fantastic tutorial! Thank you!
Definitely improvising each one from the start. At this point, 70+ blocks in, I have a good idea of what size to stop building my units at and start looking at joining the units into rows. That being said, I do still run into the tiny gap issue more than I'd like to admit, but such is the nature of improv!
I don't know what I love most, the beautiful stained glass block, the use of tiny scraps, the honesty to the whole video, or your wonderful humor. I truly enjoyed the whole video and I can't wait to make a quilt using this great idea. Thanks so much for sharing this.
I came for the quilting, and subscribed for the swearing. Beautiful work btw!
Me too 😆

I love that you are REAL and you don't edit out goofs!
I'm so glad you showed the mistake with the camera shutting off and frustrated swearing. We usually only see the nice Tutorials like everything works out perfectly. Thanks, Connie
Lol.,love the funny of it all. I signed up for your site.
Words to live by: "Don't judge me. If it works, it works." Love it! These blocks are lovely - I look forward to trying this!

NOT an idiot! A creative process in action. Thank you for showing the mistakes. We don't learn if we don't mess up and learn from the mistakes.❤❤❤
The difference between an amateur and a professional is they both make mistakes, but the professional knows how to fix them ! Thanks for showing quilters how to create professional results while dealing with mistakes.
Love the design and was happy to hear someone else that sounds like I do when I make mistakes 😂
Such a great tutorial! So easy to listen to & follow. Enjoyed your humor so much. Am new to piecing / quilting - can't wait to make stained glass blocks; I already have some fabrics in mind (scraps from clothes my daughters wore as youngsters)😁

Makes me feel better knowing that I'm not the only one who is sewing that has a potty mouth. Thanks so much! I really needed a good laugh 😅
I love how you iron everything so thoroughly. I get 'press stress' when fabric is cut or sewn when creased. This is good fun.
I love that you show your challenging/"mistake" moments. Thank you! I can relate! LOL
Love you sharing your thought processes. This is striking unique and beautiful work! Thank you! Subscribed!
Love, love LOVE this block! My OCD loves the scrappy, structured nature of this block! You may have also convinced me to try paper piecing, to see if it works for me! Thanks for taking the time to create and post this video. And, thanks for keeping it real!!!
Love the real life moment... Made me laugh out loud. 🤣 Beautiful blocks and technique

I really loved your real video just as much as your blocks. Thanks for the realism and the great blocks.

Love the way you put these blocks together. I plan to make my own color block colors. Can't wait to get started. Thank you for this great video.
Love this video - so appreciate your sharing your method for this beautiful block - and your frustration! 😂❤
Thanks for the tutorial. I have made about 2 dozen of these squares since you started sharing on instagram. I love the stained glass look.
Really useful, I bought a sashed stained glass quilting kit three years ago, but couldn’t make sense of the instructions, it’s now clear!
The swearing made me laugh, but the suddenly very loud noise of your intermission section startled me a lot more.😂
I love how you take us through your thought process.

What a great way to use up those smaller scraps and makes such a beautiful block!
Omgggg I love you for swearing while quilting. My new fav vid ever!
I love stained glass quilts and your process, so I subscribed to your channel. Thank you for this detailed tutorial. This is beautiful, by the way.
As someone who does “real” stained glass and who quilts, how the heck have I never thought of this before!! 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️
Love, love, love!!! I have been looking for something like this for my scraps. I have done crumb blocks but they seem too scattered for me. I love the clean design and the color coordination. I will definitely be doing these blocks. Thanks so much.

I absolutely love this, I prefer to see tutorials that are not scripted and real. I try to do that as well. Thanks.
Wow beautiful work!! Love love that block! Thanks for the tutorial
Who said it was gonna be easy?! Oh so beautiful…and a great tutorial… thank you! ❤
i love that you are so real. the same as the rest of us!!!

Great tutorial! I need a project to try and get my scraps under control so I am definitely going to give this a try.

This is such a great way to use scraps up...I love scraps!
Thankyou for answering, please share your finished quilt, it’s going to be most interesting and beautiful.
Your stained glass block is beautiful. I enjoyed your tutorial.
Love your pleasant voice and detailed instructions.
Love the blocks and Love your sense of humor!
my reaction would have been exactly the same as yours reaction to discovering the 2nd camera not recording.......lol. Love the blocks!

😂😂😂😂😂😂omgosh, I'm sorry your camera was shut off, but you made me laugh so hard. THANK YOU, nice quilt . Thank you for sharing 😊
Bless your heart! Your squares are adorable!
What a wonderful way to deal with scraps. Tedious, but wonderful.
I have been working on a lot of QAL'S. I think that I am going to take my scrap bins out and work on my string and crumb blocks. Even if I only get a couple of each done tomorrow that is fine. Sometimes you just need a break from organized sewing 😁😊
Ahh, technical difficulties. Nice tutorial 😊. Thank you
LOL - glad I'm not the only one that uses colorful language 😅 🙂 😉
Your work is the best one I have seen on utube
Excellant how the seams push the sashing forward to create the slight raise of imitating a solder line
I just came across this video and you are an awesome, talented, and funny lady. Thank you and I just subscribed to you channel.
Please make more videos, you are marvelous! I like your brain.
Those blocks are so pretty! I'm going to go strip up some black and see what I can come up with. I certainly have enough scraps!
You are Fantastic. I must admit I really loved this video. You point out all your mistakes with colorful wording LOL
Love, love, love this, it makes the scraps so much better with sashing!
Beautiful blocks. But I was most impressed by your reaction to the camera malfunction! Would give you 50 likes just for that if I could. Made my day.
You are not an idiot , if your a sewer you know what to do n fix it simply just a different tactic. - I must say it looks beautiful 😊❤❤❤ awesomeness
Love the calm alrighty 🤣 Love this, inspired me, always wanted to do this. 👌 Love the raised "lead"
Amazing! You are so talented!
I have been back to view your lovely tutorial a few times. I find I making the same mistakes and choices you are. I am liking to use up my stash using this method. so far . You are the best.
😂😂😂 I'm cracking up at your meltdown! Lmao omg that was so funny! Great video! Cute blocks!
I love this block,I really want to make it ,I had to chuckle with the cussing you did when your camera stopped lmao.
Loved this tutorial! Mistakes like we all make!!
How wide is your black strips? 1 inch or 1 1/2?
I have days where it sounds like that in my sewing room. Thank you for the wonderful tutorial on this quilt block.
🤣 my dogs name is Harley but sometimes I call him Mutha Fer, it confuses him when I quilt. You are my tribe!
I've yet to try this, but this is my favorite tutorial. I always laugh when your camera malfunctions.
I loved the reality of your video and your blocks are amazing. Subscribing.
can you use bias tape for the black sashing?
Those are so beautiful I love them and really want to try it paper piecing
When I heard the words orthogonal and perpendicular in the same sentence, I was hooked.
You have captured me!!! I love your work. Thanks
Did you cut your sashing or buy it already cut. ???🤔
These are so beautiful. They make me want to do it tonight!
Go for it! If you do make something, feel free to share and tag me on IG!
😂😂😂 That was an amazing video from the quality, voiceover & putting the out-take right into the video. Bravo! I use bad Navy language, too, but I don't have a bleep sound effect. 🤷 Fantastic tutorial! Thank you!
I love the "real life" moments! Stinkin technology anyway! 😉
What have you got under the pressing pad? The heat warped
my cutting mat, so I was pretty frustrated🤬.
I'm new to your channel and enjoy the content! I'm looking forward to the next quilting video. Thank you for posting this video.
How did you get orange border on your ruler
How can I get a tutorial of this quilt? A pattern? I know I’m really late in asking.
Hi Samantha, great video! I have a question, after you do these blocks do you sew them together with sashing or just together?
Great idea. Have you found better 'ways' to set up the block beforehand? Or are you improvising each one from start?
Definitely improvising each one from the start. At this point, 70+ blocks in, I have a good idea of what size to stop building my units at and start looking at joining the units into rows. That being said, I do still run into the tiny gap issue more than I'd like to admit, but such is the nature of improv!
