I think one of the best feature is that you can use the DJI controller. Now i can use the same controller on DJI fvp, avata and a custom drone with o3. Btw, great video as always!
I'm stoked about this for sure. I already own the Avata, V2 goggles and the RC 2 controller so, I'm really ready to go without having to spend a lot more money other than the O3 air unit itself. In many scenarios O3 alone is fine. Just made a various tests comparing image but also the quad weight.
I tested O3 Nazgul V2 setup with 4S 1050 mAh from Tatoo yesterday,
it is 128g only lipo, so the total quad weight was 539 g (vs. 779 g with 1500 mAh and Hero10) - and it flies around 4 minutes.
It is so agile ;) Totally different experience.
I ordered it. Having no plans to use it immediately. But I know when I do actually need it it will be out of stock. Thanks as always Ken

As a noob to fpv and having both the dji FPV and Avata drones and not yet using them in full manual, I'm hoping you'll put up videos in future on different builds you do using the 03 system. Yes I'm practicing on the sim, but I'd rather crash a custom and I know they will be much easier to repair/rebuild.
Same here. If they made batteries now that are safe like Avatas for charging it would get very interesting to build some custom qvads
I like your plan! But of you are feeling comfortabel flying M mode in the Sim, Go out with the original FPV and Go high in the air and pop it in M mode!! It is so much fun. When the fun is over at the high ground switch to your Avata in M mode because is can take a hit!!
Can you practice on the sim with the Motion controller?
@@enricovaniterson3301 the motion controller is recognized, but doesn't work due to yaw stuck full rh, hence its stuck in permanent yaw spin

You’re one of the first videos out so there’s lots of grace for getting some details wrong but it sounds like the new O3 was designed for 25x25 mounts. The screws apparently come out and are made to be replaced by longer m2 screws for mounting to a frame.
Yeah, but the way it mounts I really would not recommend using those because it’s sitting on sort of an offset which leaves room for other issues. Most frames do not use 25x25 my frame specifically
@@OriginaldoBo very true. I think most people will use tape, zip tie, or Tpu. It’s way more convenient and just as good. Thats how everyone mounts the vista despite the 20x20 holes. And obviously the air unit. So we are all used to mounting that way. Just figured I’d point it out that it does technically have 25x25!
Quality unit! Agreed on the non replaceable lens not being ideal. Definitely be grabbing one, shame about the vibrations i wanted to put one in an armattan beaver or badger frame to not have props in view. My plan was recording the same flights gopro ontop in high res for youtube and the dji recording in lower res for instagram👍

Great Review! Although my biggest problem with this Air Unit is that you need to restart your goggles and change to DJI FPV mode if you have older drones with Caddx. Also you won't be able to use the same controller and A VERY BIG problem is that you need to re-bind your drone EVERY TIME you change from DJI Air unit to DJI FPV mode (or at least that happened with the DJI FPV and any Caddx drone).

Yeap! I had that issue when flying dji fpv and other 5” / cinewhoops using caddx. Goggles have 2 systems in them, DJI FPV mod and DJI AIR UNIT system. When u switch modes u need to bind the drone with the goggles and also the control (just for the dji fpv). It SUCKS SOOO BAD. Hopefully DJI will fix this.

The screw holes on the O3 are 25.5mm which means it will fit any frames that have 25.5 mounting patterns for the VTX. Given that HDZero uses the same mount pattern there are a few on the market that have that available. You'll just need 2mm longer M1.6 bolts and replace the existing case screws. No TPU needed!
Yeah, sadly most the frames aren’t taking advantage of the same screw holes, also, with the amount of vibration that many frames have, it’s really best to soft Mount
@@OriginaldoBo soft mount should only be necessary if you want to use EIS or gyroflow though right? If rocksteady is off and you don't stabilize the footage it should be as smooth as the FPV camera from what I've seen from our test pilots. We're also working on an aluminum mount that adapts the 25.5 M1.6 to a standard threaded M3 30.5 and 20mm mount. Should be available on GetFPV soon.
@@OriginaldoBo also the other issue is some frames the standoffs are too narrow to fit the camera lens, though that's only an issue on some frames. That's a second consideration.

O3 can be hard mounted. DJI states so in their documentation. It’s 25mm(ish) mounting. You remove four screws and replace with longer ones to go through the frame and into the unit.
Yeah won’t work on every frame which is a bummer

Интересно, если разместить цифровой видео модуль от Walksnail Avatar на Mini Talon, как далеко получится устойчивое и качественное видео? (Если не покупать отдельно улучшенные антенны от других производителей).

You had mentioned that you powered your transmitter directly to a battery. Could you advise how you did this. I just received an Air 03 unit, and plan to use it on a fixed wing RC aircraft. Can the JST wire be adapted to a battery balance plug and carry the required amps, just using the hot and ground wires? It would seem the remaining four wires are not used? Thank you in advance.

The recordings are not bad (guess you used Gyro flow), a game changer to lose the GoPro even if the picture is a bit worse. Need to keep the props out of the frame then though.

Hi, I'd like to mount this air unit onto a Mavic drone(exterior case) to be able to use the dji goggles. Is it possible? what would I need for the air unit to work? a battery is enough?

Other reviewers have specifically stated that the IMU/Gyro are in the o3 air unit main enclosure, not the camera!
Which they state is what causes the weird stabilization issues. The camera itself and the gyro data are decoupled from one another. Bardwell even touched on DJI making recommendations to correct the problem. Something about changing ESC frequency I think.
Can you please elaborate on that and clarify where the IMU/Gyro really are!?!
That’s not the information I have from DJI via email. When I started having problems with it, I asked them where is the Gyro and engineers specifically stated it’s in the camera.
What kind of camera setting controls are there? Is there anyway to adjust contrast (sometimes a bit dark) and can you lock ISO settings as well? Thanks for a great review!
i think 03 would be good for pusher drone. props will be seen on video even if it is good, gopro is mounted higher. for content producer, 03 is great but cam location is not good.

Nobody is speculating on whether or not DJI will release other cameras that will work with this drone or whether or not the cameras like the Nebula Pro will work with this air unit. For instance I smashed the camera, but I need to fly today. Can I slap a Nebula Pro that I have on another drone or a spare this air unit?

Great job man. Answered a lot of my questions. I skipped the FPV drone and the Avata in anticipation for this. Bought a FPV-V2 radio a while back and didn't own a single drone that it could fly. I liked the V1 radio. The firmware updates and binding is so much less of a hassle.

Using the DJI RC RSSI doesn’t matter with dji controller. However it doesn’t matter anymore on that quad lol

I heard dji says take the screws out of the unit and drive longer m2 screws thru to mount on a 30x30 sized space.. whereas the caddx could do 20x20.. my glide is boned in this one 😄

Not sure what air unit you got but the one Bardwell has has the mounting holes and screws alright (25 mm pattern).

I wonder if anyone will have the itch to gut the avata and replace it's flight electronics / video system with a 03 air unit and something like the foxeer reaper AIO FC/esc. See if they can eliminate the tumbles and vortex problem. And run a regular Lipo. Make a betaflight avata lol

Thanks for the honest review Ken, not ready to make the transition yet as I have the V1 goggles. Wondering if the range would be different if you're using say an XT16S and Crossfire vs the matched DJI RC? Not that I'm going to be flying 6 miles anyways but just curious if the performance degrades by not using a complete DJI setup.
I got tx16 mk2. 1200mw on dji goggles v2(true rc x2air patches), caddx polar vista (with the true rc matchstick antenna) and I've only got to test my range once but I was getting about 3/4-1mile before video feed started losing signal. Didn't have any trouble with the controller signal at that distance tho
GoPro over O3 all day! The image quality is good on the O3 but GoPro is still better plus no props in view for the GoPro.

All I care about is the quality in the googles viewscreens, not the recorded DVR footage view. I will be flying RC Planes and gliders. Does the screen footage look as good as the recorded footage with this camera? That's the whole point of FPV to me.

It’s not it’s, it’s affected by vibrations. First issue I had emailed the engineers and they said the IMU is in the camera

So the Chimera was likely lost to a faulty BEC on the flight controller

@OriginaldoBo May I has a couple questions please? 1- What flight controller did you find worked best with it? 2 - (this one may seem stupid but I truly don't know) Do I need a stack or just a flight controller? I plan on using my Goggles 2 and the DJI Remote Controller 2 with it.
I bought the diatone Mamba F7 M4 stack. The stack was 113 with ESC
