PoE2's endgame feels like PoE1's late game-fast-paced map clearing instead of engaging boss fights, with content locked behind high-tier maps. This isn’t what was promised to us. We were told we'd have a slower, more methodical gameplay experience, where skill and strategy would actually matter.
It's NOT as simple as just listening. First, you have to know whom to listen to, which means you need good data on the feedback, like the amount of people saying the same thing, what kind of players they are etc... THEN you need to figure out whether it really is a good idea to give in. And THEN you also need to be able to make the changes without messing up other parts of the game. But yes, it all starts with listening.
Replaying the campaign on a new character has been fun. If you want to rush through to the end of an act you can go fast but if you feel like you need more power you can go to some side areas. Some maps are generally pretty huge and I'm betting they won't stay that way in later leagues.
I was there too. Uninstalled out of frustration. Tried it again, and got through it because I traded on PoE 2 for better gear then what I was going to get via rng, and picked a stronger build. It is possible. I don't think the current iteration is sustainable in terms of replay value, but I'll stick around. It is possible, but it is slower, if you want to do it. And don't listen to the gatekeepers and gas lighters. Good luck.
@@mike9512the replay value is up to how much developers will change the campaign, and since it will be randomlly generated every season and have different side bosses and rewards hopefully its superior to a static campaign
@@MrRafagigapr It will be interesting to see. I know people say it's 'easy', but that just doesn't hold up. The dev's have said this game was intentionally designed to be more challenging. Not a critique, it just is what it is. But if this is supposed to be a seasonal thing, there is no way a general audience will be playing this seasonally for years to come in it's current version. But we shall see.
I could never get into poe1 and one of the main things I hated was the sentiment that you HAVE to follow a guide to even be able to clear the games base content. I enjoy experimentation and doing whatever the hell seems fun to me, even if statistically it's a very underperforming build, while not feeling completely lost. PoE2 is everything I ever wanted
When an entire game can be done by mixing any skills with any gear with any build layout you remove and joy of the upper tier of difficulty in finding a build. You don't HAVE to use a build guide people did that to skip carefully building a build and fine tuning it.
I kind of don't understand the point of talking about using meta in games as a bad thing, and then talking about playing off-meta in poe2. You can play off-meta in poe1 as well, without turning it into poe2 slowpoke speed. That's the only reason I played poe1 for almost 9k hours - meme builds. In both games you can decide to play how you want, and feeling bad for not using the most powerful skill/character/build is entirely on you no matter if you play poe1 or poe2. If your goal is the highest number of damage on a skill, then it will always be very limited.
For me, I'm not sure if POE2 is my favorite arpg, or even will be, but the WASD movement and the ability to move while attacking kinda ruins every other arpg. So yeah, they are setting new standards.
I have a little over 6000 hours in PoE and I was kinda negative when PoE 2 EA was released. Or rather I didn't feel like the game was were I hoped it would be, it still have issues, don't get me wrong. But I've never been worried and I'm still not GGG have built a än amazing reputation when it comes to listening to the players and communicating. Not always making the changes the players ask for but making the changes they feel makes the most sen e from what the players ask for and most of all communicating why the do what they do and dont do what they don't
i have about the same hours in 1 and i have to admit after a couple weeks playing 2 i jumped back to it and it felt refreshing. poe2 is a mixed bag for me but my biggest worry is not that they wont polish it untill it becomes truly amazing but that meanwhile content for the original has to take cuts because of its development and i personally prefer that version over poe2s current iteration to be honest.
They want build diversity but the difficulty makes me need to follow a build guide, so I am able to play less play styles because I kept dying with my own build. I have fewer options of play styles than in POE 1 if I want to progress.
@karlklein2263 I used some build guides as well in POE 1 but also was successful with my own builds. I wish there could be different difficulty levels. As long as it's programmed correctly, it could make everyone happy except the sadistic people who only want the game to be hard so they can feel special for beating it. I beat Elden Ring, but it took me 170 hours of over leveling to do so. It's hard to over level much in POE 2 because it gates what level of enemies give you XP. Hopefully, this build guide finally gets me past the act 2 boss. This is my 3rd character.
@iFoss what I am saying is that level 2 boss was impossible with my first 2 builds. I was doing no damage so it felt like a bad build and not a skill issue. I would like to go back to act one and level up easily for a few hours and then go back to the act 2 boss, but you get basically get no XP. Ellen Ring let me level up in an easy area and also Elden Ring I knew was a skill issue and felt fair if I could just figure out the boss. PoE 2 if you are not doing any damage to the boss you are SOL. At this point, I am almost more than 3 levels over the last Dreadnought area, so I will not be able to level up anymore at all for the act 2 boss. IN Elden Ring, I could get way more overleveled, making difficult bosses easier to get past. I still died a lot on certain bosses, though. I don't like enemy scaling ever.
@tonyfabiano3053 i see your problem now. You got the names of the games mixed up. Its understandable considering how not at all similar their names are. Elden ring is a soulslike. This might be hard to comprehend, but poe2 is an arpg. How you build your character will really determine your success. Most soulslikes you can just power level and Faceroll through. Arpgs won't let you faceroll unless you make a good build.
Pretty sure you speak for a good chunk of players actually, the therycrafters, roleplayers and general rpg enthusiasts who want to make their own builds and play intuitively. Many meta followers are more casual and just follow pre-established builds because it's easier, or lack the time to invest in making something meaningful themselves, and that's totally fine. However there is more to any game than it's hyper 1% endgame that only a small percentage of players will even stick around for.
If people who played POE1 don't like this game then they can continue to happily play the niche cult game that is POE1 to their hearts' content. For the overwhelming majority of the rest of us, this game is a monumental step forward for both GGG and the genre. This is an industry benchmark game in the making, and just a damn good dose of good clean family fun dare I say. If you don't like it, kick rocks, in my most humble of opinions. For me and my clan, we shall play POE2.
It’s not helpful to be this combative. The criticism from PoE1 players is like 50/50 split between people who are genuinely concerned about PoE2’s potential as a seasonal league game, and people who just straight up want a braindead 1button zoom cookie clicker. They’re not the same people.
I don’t think you know what the word “nichè” means. PoE has had over 300k concurrent most leagues, typically beating out Diablo 4. The only reason this has changed is because PoE2 is new. Trust me, when the next PoE league launches, PoE 2 will be a ghost town.
@MikeyJ28 The fact that you think Steam Charts are relevant for a game that did a billion dollars in revenue NOT through Steam says literally everything about what your understanding of "niche" means bud. Try better next time, thanks for playing! 🤘
PoE2 is polished PoE1 with a bit of augments and changes. But gotta give props to their code and response time. Most games will have at least a bit of spaghetti code. PoE maybe the only game without or with the least in the genre. They took re-usability to another level.
Poe2 is simply capitalizing on poe1’s success. It’s good, but mostly still just Poe1 version 1.2 and with a lot of stupid designs desperate to differentiate from poe1.
They literally said that numerous times in interview after interview. They said they wanted to slow it down and make it less of a screen blur that didn't appeal to new players. If you didn't hear it, you weren't listening.
Mostly agree. Uninstalled once, but came back because I still believe in GGG's direction. We will see though. The current difficulty level and pace, while rewarding, has little replay value compared to PoE 1. I can't imagine me running through this campaign multiple times. And I strongly disagree there is build diversity. The options are there, 100%, but the difficulty and pace for many builds are so high and slow, even by acceptable standards, I can't imagine anyone but a very small niche of players doing them. That being said, it is ea, there is a lot to love about the game, and GGG is listening. So, for now, I'm sticking around.
As a player that have played over 30 000 hours in my opinion in many regards poe 2 is a step backwards and inferior version. I have reached endgame maps in poe 2 and decided to quit. Game is not fun. It looks graphicly amazing but thats it. Also campaing has nice story that is better than poe1. Thats pretty muc hit. Gameplay wise for endgame poe 2 is but a fraction of what poe 1 behemoth of fun trully is.
I agree. Lowkey wish GGG had made a new game on a different genre (Like maybe mmorpg instead of arpg) instead of the same thing polished. PoE2 truly feels diabloesque.
@anonv2030 An ARPG can change a lot in a year. The devs can apply balance, improve the drop rate, mechanic, damage, balance enemies or item attributes, and make the game more rewarding. I think the game has a lot of potential, but I have two problems with them in particular. One is the boss fights, they are very frustrating, many times you die with a hit kill, when you kill them you get practically nothing in return, I think it is too much for a campaign, especially knowing that you will have to repeat it. The second is the drop rate, which is horrible. I am the type of person who likes to enjoy the game, explore, open the map, and right now, I am playing as the warrior, and I simply do not get any items. I got some yellows in act one, but none in act two, only items from other classes drop and this is very annoying, I feel that I am always out geared. The game is still in early access, so let's see.
if you want to interpret GGG decisions you need to know PoE "vision". They don't want to easily change passives because decisions must have weight. There is ten years of relationship with GGG and the community freely available in the internet. Look for Chris Wilson interviews around the time of the introduction of ruthless. The one death bosses, the well, etc are all there.
