Hi Mike. I’m a uk follower and comic collector. Both American and British comics. You really don’t see a lot of the old British comics at boot fares over here. A lot of these comics were read and then used along with newspapers as kindling for coal fires back in the 60s and 70s. I’ve still got all my comics from my childhood. Titles like Valiant. Lion. Tiger and everyone’s favourite The Beano. Most British comics had coloured covers and black and white interiors. You’d usually get 6 or 7 stories in each for different characters. In the Beano you’d get. Minnie the minx. Dennis the menace. ( not the American one). Lord snooty. The Bash street kids. Roger the dodger. Etc. love you vids. Keep em going.

@@VolkswagenGamer Hi mate. I’ve picked up quite a few 2000ads from charity shops over the years. I bought it when it first came out in I think 1977. I have a run from issue 1 to about 80. It was a totally different comic to what we were use to over here and introduced some brilliant characters. Judge dredd being the best known ,first appearing in issue 2. One of my favourites was the Harlem heroes. Cheers

I remember the Bizarre Adventures selling out quickly at the store when I was in High school. Everything X-Men was so hot at that time. Such great memories of buying the books at cover price!😂 If I could only go back in time I would have bought multiple copies of X-men books and invested in Microsoft!😂

Mike in the UK in the 60s these were our weekly comics . Obtaining DC and Marvel was sporadic with no continuity. As a really young kid it was predominantly the fun comics that appealed to me with titles The Beano Dandy Beezer and Topper. As I got a bit older I strived to collect as many US comics as I could afford but also bought comics like those you picked up. Later on our UK comics became more sci fi and The Eagle with Dan Dare was great. I think the Beano ran a story you would like General Jumbo where he had an army of remote controlled soldiers. The likes of the ones you picked up are not that common even over here so you have done well finding those. Great channel, keep up the good work.

Love those British comic books! I don't know much about them at all, but they're certainly very interesting, and interesting is good! I'm glad to see you show some of the interiors of your purchases as well, as it's also the stories and content that make these comic books so great! Look out for Bizarre Adventures #28, a great Frank Miller Elektra story, perhaps her first solo story?

I'm a UK viewer and former reader and collector of British comics. Alot of those titles we don't often see pop up at fairs or shops nowadays. But we're very popular back in the day. Alot of prolific well known British writers and artists cut their teeth on these sorts of comics, like Hotspur, Lion, Battle and some of the girls publications before moving on to create their own work on titles like 2000ad and Eagle, later on being snapped up by Marvel and Dc and gaining more recognition later on for movie and TV adaptations.

Actually newsprint and paper of varying quality were standard and some issues of a comic could vary in size slightly as it depended whether the publisher could get a cheaper print price. Originally the comics were known as Comic Sets rather than comic strips because the illoes were drawn by the artist and then transferred to a wooden block that was cut out (wood cut) -engraved is more accurate and six blocks made up a page so were "comic sets" with text printed underneath.

Great deal on those British comics Mike. As others have said, they are not as common in the UK as you might think. Especially not in nice condition. The Lion, Valiant and June were published by Fleetway/IPC, the Hornet was a DC Thomson publication (the same people who do Beano and Dandy). Great video as well. It always interests me which titles you overlook when looking through the boxes. I would have jumped on those bronze age Sgt Rock, Stalker and Richie Rich comics, but you just passed them by. I guess those titles are very common in the US?

The British comics aren't really called magazines, that's just a very general name, and I've never heard them called programmes (maybe someone saw that 2000AD is numbered as Progs rather than issue # like US comics and assumed it was a common term for them all). I have seen them referred to as comic papers however. Incidentally, The Beano first appeared in 1938, #4000 came out in 2019 and it's still being printed - quite an achievement. Here in Australia we find the odd issue of these UK comics second-hand; the oldest I have are issues of Lion from 1953.
You should also have grabbed Alien Legion #1 and NOW Comics' The Terminator.
#34, the final issue of the b/w Marvel Preview/Bizarre Adventures magazine, was actually in colour and comic book size. Go figure.

A good deal of the Spiders adventures were were written by Jerry Siegal. If your lion comic is before February 1969 it almost certainly is. Those UK comics are somewhat hard to find in the UK . Really you need to go to a specialist UK dealer. There not overly expensive but hard to find in descent condition. The paper stock is really rough. They are a good deal of fun. Girls comics always had a girls name. Judy , Jackie , Tammy the list is endless . Sales of these comics at the time were in the hundreds of thousands. And a weekly comic at that. Lots of times as well you would have had free gifts on the covers. Pins, Posters, Spud guns and little plastic model kits. It's interesting comparing to the American comic market at the time . Worlds apert. The American market was exotic with glossy covers and full colour art.

that last strange adventure for $25 is about 5x too much in that condition. you can buy it RIGHT NOW for $5 in low grade on the ole fleaBay. ive been putting together that full run and i bought that same book 2-3 months ago in high grade for $14. i get it, that fleabay really kills the prices for local sellers cuz there is always 1-5 guys who bought a collection for cheap and will take pennies on the dollar but that makes it so much better for buyers.
im a collector first but for last 3-4 months ive been selling on whatnot.
