My introduction to American Comic books was an issue of Lois Lane, #51 from 1964, my Mother bought it for me to keep me quiet while she spoke to the lady in the newsagents! She didn't know what she started, 59 years later I'm still buying, reading and collecting them! In the early years of the Lois Lane run, it used to outsell virtually every other DC and Marvel book, so no dissing Lois, if you please, lol! By the way, you've probably already been told this but on the cover of Superman #195, that's the Bottle City of Kandor that Brainiac shrunk, first appearing in Action Comics #242!

I had Major Matt Mason as a kid(I'm 62)and remember fondly playing with him. The only setback was that they had wires inside of them so you could pose the arms and they would break.

I was mildly disappointed when I saw you pulling up yet another Batman book, but then I got super excited when I saw The Eraser.
The best part is that he uses his eraser to get rid of evidence in crime scenes. That's it. And his only weapons are his absurdly long pointy shoes that look impossible to get around in

Echoes of Chuck Rozanski finding the Edgar Church collection here Mike, the world's first recognised pedigree comics collection; unfortunately your comics aren't in the same high grade but they were clearly well read and enjoyed, which is just as important. I don't know much about old toys either but I do know that my pick among the ones you found is definitely the Eagle from Space: 1999, one of my favourite SF tv shows ever. DC's Secret Six is an interesting title, especially for the 1960s, despite only lasting for seven issues; the identity of Mockingbird, who secretly controls the Six, is not revealed until 1988 in Action Comics, two decades after Secret Six was cancelled! The title has been revived a couple of times since. A few of your DCs have beautiful Neal Adams covers I see. You're right, there were definitely some whacky stories in those Silver Age DC comics with Batman and Superman - I couldn't count the number of times each impersonated the other to get out of a sticky situation, for example, often to put Lois off the scent. Your two biggest books are really significant comics; I have always liked the appearance of Annihilus, there's something implacable and unstoppable about him, with his armour and bat-like wings. Thanks Mike for letting us take this ride with you and your family. For me, the dustier the location, the greater the chance of finding treasures.

Two words or removing stickers from surfaces. Peanut butter! The oils in the peanut butter will neutralize the glue in the stickers. Words of caution. A little peanut butter is good for this, More is not necessarily better. Also rub the peanut butter on the sticker gently, very gently.

Just happened onto this video. The space you'd mostly from 1960s, were really popular during the space race, etc. I recognized nearly all the comics with a couple exceptions. Hold Key did a lot stuff that's actually pretty interesting if people take a look. Magnus Robot Fighter was a favorite. S nber of these are from 70s. I believe everything with 15 cent cover price on up is from about 1971 forward. Regular size comics remained 25 cents for several years. The SPACE:1999 Eagle probably 1975-1977. Shame the comics were in mostly in rough shape. Guess it's clear I'm kinda old since I actually read a number when they were new!🙂

What really gives him the value is the condition of the boxes in their original. That's where the money is too. You can imagine some people pay just as much for the Box as they would for the toy.

I understand you're from a different generation, but there was a reference made to Kandor as recently as in an episode of "The Big Bang Theory".
    (incredulity rant over)

Ha! I totally understand. A few of my friends have also brought this up. I actually know what it is, but a lot of times when filming I’m speaking completely off the cuff, unrehearsed. I hadn’t even considered that cover until that very moment and the name escaped me. And I don’t like to edit out my mistakes because I like people seeing me in an honest light. So even though I knew what it was when I was editing the video I chose to intentionally leave it in because I thought it was funny and wanted people to chime in, which they certainly did! So thank you for the comment and correction and I hope for further corrections to my inevitable mistakes in the future!

Comics used to be sold to stores on a returnable basis, so what didn't sell they could send back. To save money on piles of comics being returned, they were allowed to just send proof of the comics (ripped off top cover) with the notion the comics would be destroyed. Some retailers may have destroyed them, but many didn't, and sold them super cheap to kids who back then weren't too bothered that a piece was missing. Those comics may be examples of that.

    • @starmnsixty1209

Price tags easy to get off
    1. Hair dryer low heat at an angle
Warm it up so the glue melts then
    2. Take a pair of tweezers and slowly peel the tag off using the dryer to continue to blow low heat under the tag and pull it off.
    3. To clean the residual off take a cheese cloth or something clean and smooth put a dab of clear shoe cleaner(wb40 works too believe it or not) and gently clean off the rest of any glue left. Works in plastic toy packages too.

I’m too scared to look in my family’s attics! 😂 Where will you be selling these?

That’s the big question. Originally I had a clip of me asking people to contact me if they knew someone in New England but I cut it because I felt uneasy using my channel as a platform to sell. On top of that, I sold the diecast cars a few nights after I filmed that (they were by far the easiest thing to sell and ship). Everything else? I’m hoping to find someone in New England who is interested so I don’t have to ship, otherwise I’ll have to do ebay, and deal with the fees, shipping, etc. Not an option I’m relishing. So short answer, other than the cars, I don’t know.

What a great collection! I hope you will show the rest in a later video. I liked all the comics too, even if the condition is pretty bad.

BTW the Superman comic with Sups and the Flash, Superman was called away for a major disaster, and someone set up a bulletproof glass Flash didn't see and ran into. As for who won, well you will have to read it. I had bought a comic like that in my early years. A lot of the DC comics you showed, I either had or read at the grocery store waiting for my mom. Thanks for bring back good memories. 😀 😊 😉

Fond memories! When visiting Gramma as a kid, there was a big box of Matchbox cars in her walk-in cellar. Older brother, older cousin, we'd pull 'em out, play w 'em in the red foothills dirt, and always put them back when we left.
Back home, I made my own Hotwheels from a cork from my grampas booze bootle. Stuck tacks in it w big tacks in the rear for mags, smaller tacks in front. Drew✍️🏼on a racing number. Then in class, I used a pink eraser for the homemade hotrod.
I've always been a Marvel dude. To me, back then, mid70's, DC was for the older generation from the 50's. (DC was referred to as 'our distinguished competitor' by Marvel, always respected)

I was offering them to local people first and to those who hit me up on instagram . I dis sell the cars, space toys, and western toys pretty much right after the video posted, but I still have a lot I’m not sure what to do with. Because it isn’t boxed it’s harder to sell.

Back in the 60s and 70s when comics were sold in grocery/drug/quickie stores, the proprietors could cut off the tops of the comics that didn't sell and return them for partial credit.
The remainder of the comics would either be thrown away (philistines) or given to a child within the family.

Great video. Loved seeing the old toys, especially the ones I had as a kid in the 79s. However, let’s be clear. You stated that you found Krypto but not the Superman “doll.” Dolls are female and wear dresses. I think you meant Superman “Action Figure.” lol
