Just a quick note all these issue are rare I’ve owner an E60 M5 for 6 yrs and buy new 2015 F10 M5 That I’m still using as my daily driver today with no issues or problems I’ve done regular maintenance, as a long time owner of M5’s they are very reliable. These drive trains are so reliable BMW keep it and tuned it further for the F90 M5. Now if there was a lot of issues or problems BMW would not use it again and retire it like the S85 engine of the E60 M5.
They got rid of the s85 not because of reliability but because of environmental laws. It was a good early platform that they could have built on further, with more development the naturally aspirated engines of yesterday would be pushing similar power the turboed small blocks are pushing now, but with far superior engine sound and without the turbo lag.
i own one, is a great car, probably one of the best bmws ever made, is a real man car, its very reliable as long as you mantain it , but if the price of the parts scare you dont buy it, you cant even aford the fuel for it, and let me tell you its a big heavy car, and it drinks, its a real car for the people on the know, that can afford it....
Thank you for this review This is what I always heard about engines on used cars: you're better off buying a higher mileage, well maintained car than a lower mileage one. One reason is that it takes 50,000 miles to break in the engine, and during that time, more gasoline and oil is used to lubricate the "new" parts. Also, a higher mileage car has all the kinks worked out and today the computers have predictive programming, so it has time to adjust the air and gas flow to the driving conditions. I can't believe the factory left the thread sticking out of the front seat upholstery. Also, the dealer should be widely persecuted for letting a new car like that out of his dealership without having it repaired first. Not to say the factory -- does BMW have a quality control process in manufacturing and delivery of cars? Someone is asleep at the wheel! And so many engines replaced!. Don't they know how to test engines in the factory? Gee, they take your money for a BMW and then take you for a ride!
I bought an f10 m5 two weeks ago, it was recovered on a low loader from my house 5days later with bigend bearing failure! Awaiting an outcome from the warranty 😞
What year was the F10 M5? Im looking at buying a used M5 and I keep hearing about people buying a M5 and a few weeks later or months having bearing issues.
Bearing need to be changed after some years. It's should be regular maintenance for this car :( I always change them after purchase E63 m6 and My f13 m6 Beucuse i know mostly people don't change them
My 2013s transmission failed within a month of buying this car. The previous owner ran it hard. I likely won’t buy a used car again. Luckily the car was under warranty.
Unfortunately there is really no way of knowing how the previous owner broke in the motor, or his driving habits, so while I agree with what he is saying it doesn’t really help. I guess I just have to use common sense, press every one of the 2,122 buttons to see what works and what doesn’t, and put a premium on service records
Think l might locktite those plastic bits down, after all it it only a small problem on a great car.And if you get in a Ferrari l think you will find it a lot worse than that, and twice or three times the money !!!! Apart from that this car needs regular engine clean !!!!!
The N63 engine on these cars has been a reliability nightmare. There was even a class action suit from enraged owners. The "Hot Vee" turbo design created more heat than the engine could dissipate, causing problems with oil burning, melted PVC hoses and other failures. There are also problems with discharging batteries. in fact, BMW has a service bulletin recommending a new battery at every oil change! Don't consider buying one of these without a complete warranty, and expect to have problems anyway. Not recommended. Savage Geese had an honest review of this model.
@@hulk-smash-deez-hose.7951 No offense, but betting on BMW reliability is like betting on blackjack, only with a much bigger chance of losing your shirt. I'm sure that it's less bad than before, but I certainly wouldn't recoomend them to people looking for reliable, economically maintainable transportation.
trikpa111 Poor man's M5... Haha- joke, they're respectable and robust, but completely different; not just in performance but interior also and it's just a totally different experience. If you get one, then spend extra and get one fully loaded- they're becoming rarer and nice examples will hold their value. The only dilemma you may face is that a pristine 535D is not significantly cheaper than a shitty M5... If that's the case, then I'd avoid the shitty M5 and get the 535D. Hope this helps! 👍🏼
