  • For the most part I love my 2016 BMW M5, that is until it's time to do maintenance on the car. Out of all the BMWs I've ever owned, the S63 engine has to be the most annoying one to work on due to the lack of room in the engine bay. In today's video I will show you an example of what I mean.
    Parts used in the video:

    Delphi coils - bit.ly/3HrmIvm

    Might have found a hack of some sort. BMW offers an ignition coil connector that allows you to run the earlier style coils that have the tab in the middle. You just have to remove the existing connectors and pin in the new ones. Part #12527519996. Will try this out and update you guys here in this comment.

    Went through this exact same thing on my 2016. The Dinan coils are the same with the notch. They say to remove the notch which I did and they still don’t plug in properly without force. I went with the BMW OE Delphi ones on FCP. Expensive but you only have to buy them once on FCP lifetime warranty. Same with MAF sensors.

    Wow, I had no idea it was more of a pain between the s63 compared to my 550i n63tu. I do have to remove the cold air intakes to get to the coils and plugs but the dmes are in the front of the engine bay, out of the way. Seems like a pain in the ass for where they put the dmes on the s63. Despite the extra work needed on my car, I still love it and wouldn't change the smiles the car has brought me!

    I did the same recently on my 14 M5, .025gap with the same plugs on a BPM Sport Stage 1 tune. I was able to do the plugs without fully disconnecting the DMEs, and basically unbolting them and shoving them out of the way. It was a tight fit for sure, but a few hours later and alot of cursing the job was done...BPM tune is great, it's how the car should have been in the first place...keep up the good work!

    I always tell people that the German car brands are not less reliable, its just that they are more expensive to maintain. And for the Japanese car brands to run properly you still need to maintain them as well.

    • @carverjohnson2941
      @carverjohnson2941 ปีที่แล้ว

      All cars are a “maintenance headache” compared to a bicycle. But as an owner of an older Japanese car, maintenance is a pain but it is largely reliable - I have only been stranded once and that was because of an alternator. I think BMWs r worth it if you know cars, or if you are good at DIY. Compared to Japanese cars, there is so much more info in the internet for German and some American cars - which is something I appreciate.

    Plug #6 looks like excess oil is reaching in there, if it smells like fuel on the spark plug, you have a leaky injector. My advice is install oil catch cans and add water methanol, iat’s go through the roof on these cars. Crank case vent hoses can also cause misfires because of vacuum leak and make you think injectors are bad. Check for vacuum and boost leaks, they are more an issue than injectors going bad.

    Can do a cross section of the coils, to see if there is any difference internally. I wonder if there is a difference in the number of windings for the primary and secondary coils. Perhaps a difference in the spring design. If everything is the same, then it truly just a plastic notch making the difference.

    I will never understand people which are crying to change coils and sparkplugs on m5,,or any other german super car,it is pain in ass for you and you install parts diy and you install aftermarket parts not genuine ones,so when aftermarket parts fail they blame Bmw (same like hoovies do),but when you have m5,amg,or audi s6 that means that you have a lot of money for maintenance or service do that instead of you,anyway I will never let that aftermarket parts are installed in my car only genuine ones,so for that reasons german cars have bad reputation in Usa and in Europe,genuine parts will last longer i know that very well,you need to know that is difficult to change coils in any german v8,and for modern amg engines you need diagnostic equipment to reset ecu.

    Probably the worst of the top 3 German "engineered to fail" brands... Oil consumption. Sensor failures. Plastic waterpumps. Endless dashlight warnings lol... But hey, all the problem denying owners... Enjoy 😊😁

      I have no reason to lie. I'm speaking from my experience, having owned two of them. I can't speak for poorly maintained ones.

      Dinan coils have the notch too. S63 motors with build date after 11/2015 have different plug harness for coils.
