The easiest way to make CRISPY PORK BELLY! | Super crunchy & super juicy | Air fryer recipe

  • This is the easiest method to make the perfect crispy pork belly! Doesn't require heavy salting or salt crusts. No need to dry the skin out in the fridge for 12-24 hours either. Simple & perfect every time!
    Ingredients you'll need:
    1-1.5kg piece of fresh pork belly (Even thickness)
    Salt
    Pot of water
    Air fryer
    That's it. Enjoy!
    NOTE: forgot to mention in the video but make sure you place air fryer by an open window as the skin will pop causing fat to touch the heating element which will cause a little smoke. It's completely normal for it to pop, so don't be alarmed when it happens.

    THIS IS THE RECIPE, DON'T LOOK FURTHER!
    I have tried this a couple of times, and everytime I got the same perfect result! Sometimes I put some extra spice in the initial broth, sometimes I mix it up with the spice rub after boiling, but the end result is always the same, juicy pork belly with a cripsy crackling skin!!!!
    My tools: Ninja Foodi (the airfryer rocks!) knife, cleaver... Total cook time, about 95 minutes (10m heating up broth, 40m cooking, 5m seasoning, 40m air frying)

    I did this. The only suggestion or extra step I’d add is cover the meat including the sides with aluminium foil before putting it in the oven. It doesn’t over cook the pork and it’s more tender. Trust me, it will come out perfectly. You’re welcome.

    This was my second air fryer th-cam.com/users/postUgkxD4Qeo-HRLxMfom_PDinM_SBfes00qJsB . The last one worked fine but was large and a bit loud. This one is outstanding. It is smaller overall but still has plenty of capacity. It crisps the food better. You don't get one side soggy if you forget to turn it over. It is pretty quiet, easy to use, easy to clean, and works great. It chimes to alert you to functions, like when to turn over food that benefits from that. The automatic pre-heat is great. The display is large and easy to read, the light inside is actually useful. The window is worth the extra $10. It looks good sitting out on my counter. I haven't been this happy with an appliance for a long time. Good value for money.

      @@raymondyip6435 I'm curious ----- the boiling time (40 minutes) is pretty long. What is the reason? Wouldn't 10 mins be sufficient? I'm afraid to cut down the boiling time in case I ruin it but I'm really curious! Your reply is greatly appreciated.

    • @raymondyip6435
      @raymondyip6435  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You can try adjusting it depending on the size of your pork belly. In the video my one was quite a thick piece. If the piece you are using is larger but thinner, then you could cut down the boiling time. Even at 40mins my piece was only 50-60% of the way cooked. Also judging by some of the other comments, everyone's air fryer seems to be at different heat levels even though the temp is set to 200c, that too will affect cooking times. Best to try and adjust based on your piece of meat and air fryer. If you found that your pork is a little overcooked with the times I have posted, just lower the boiling or roasting time a little. Enjoy ✌️

    • @raymondyip6435
      @raymondyip6435  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You could do it either way. If you want extra flavour then I would boil tonight, marinate the meat, cover just the meat and place in the fridge overnight. This will help dry the skin out more which will help to make the skin more crispy. Following the recipe will allow you to do it all the on the same day in less than 2 hours. Marinating in the fridge overnight will yeild you a better finished product but my recipe will give you the "easiest method".
      Also just keep in mind if you have a thin piece of pork belly, adjust the cooking times to not overcook. Boiling should only half cook the meat.

    • @raymondyip6435
      @raymondyip6435  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It would probably burn with Korean BBQ marinade on it due to the sugar. You could try brushing it on at the last stages of roasting

      Won't have the same result as the air fryer produces a lot more direct heat faster. You can make crispy pork in the oven but the cooking times will vary (longer in oven)

      Cooking time in the oven from raw pork belly meat is 3 hours, starting from lowest to highest heat.

    Thanks for the video. How to store leftover and maintain the crispiness at the same time? I have 1.5kg pork belly that I pressure cooked. It's in the refrigerator to dry further. I'm thinking if I should freeze the half of the pork belly and air fry it as needed OR air fry the whole 1.5kg and just reheat the leftover in the airfryer.🤔

    • @raymondyip6435
      @raymondyip6435  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi cath, it's best cooked and eaten on the same day. You can store the left over in the fridge but it won't be as crispy the next day. Best not to freeze as the skin absorbs too much moisture hence why I recommend only using fresh pork belly. 1.5kg sounds like a lot but the meat shrinks as it cooks.

    • @cath8459
      @cath8459 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@raymondyip6435 We're just 2 in the house so 1.5kg is too much.😅 I've already placed the other half in the freezer so we'll just see if it will yield the same result. Thanks for your tips tho!

    • @raymondyip6435
      @raymondyip6435  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes if its hard to chew then one of the steps was not done correctly. Make sure to use fresh pork belly as the frozen and defrosted ones have too much water in the skin (some shops sell defrosted ones as fresh). Poking a lot of holes is also important so the heat can penetrate to make skin light and crispy.

    Does putting white vinegar on the skin make any difference?

    • @raymondyip6435
      @raymondyip6435  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes vinegar can help the skin puff up as well. I tried to make this recipe as simple as possible to get a good result, so have left off all the optional extras . As you can see it's not really needed, nor is the mountain of salt and airing out overnight but people still do it. Just make sure you pork belly is fresh and your results should be good.

    • @raymondyip6435
      @raymondyip6435  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You need to make sure your pork belly is fresh. Quite often shops will sell frozen and defrosted as fresh. Make sure to poke the holes in the skin and also make sure your air fryer is at 200 Celsius. If you do not have access to fresh pork belly then you may need to dry the skin out uncovered in the fridge overnight with some salt. Wrap the rest in tinfoil but leave the skin exposed. Give it another go ✌️
