@@MK-Turtles tho looks like theyre using their 3year old homemade kirin 9010. Little lower performance than the 8gen1. Around snap 888. Lol. Thats pretty shitty for serious gaming or multitasking for power users. So its only suited for social media and content consumption. Thats almost half a decade lagging in behind. The new snap 8gen4 is released next month, lol. Suppose to be a mad beast of a chip.

Reliable native GMS is becoming a must for me despite running a Huawei with sideload for a few years it's never ideal.

Personally, I think once we get 3different providers of this new tri-fold form factor, thats when the prices really plummet, especially in the used market. I wouldnt mind paying over 1500$ for one of these. I pay 800$ every year for a used samsung Z Fold. Helluva bargain. Almost 3x cheaper than buying the new model every year

IMO, its more of 2 mobiles and a tab folded into one device!
Please don't forget that Honor ,xiaomi, oppo Used to be a part of Huawei And we're getting the best phones from them now. You have to appreciate and respect. Huawei for the innovation. With all the restriction they have. They would have knocked Samsung an apple to the Stone age if it wasn't For the restriction, the u s government as imposed on them.

Not to mention the new iPhone 16's are still using USB-C 2.0 transfer speed stuck in the year 2000 , is like riding a tricycle on the freeway while other smartphones zoom by in sports cars with USB 3.0 or 3.1. If you're transferring data, you might want to start a hobby-maybe knitting-because those newer models will have your files moved before you can say "grandpa tech"!
@@user-kj7ld8xh2p meh. Prolly apple-s airdrop is hella fast. I know my samsungs transfer about a gigabyte in 10 secs, so 6gigs in a minute. Wired transfering files is getting kinda obsolete, wireless is just so convenient. Just yesterday I moved 4 blu-ray movies onto a 3.2 memory stick. Over a hundred gigs. Think it took like an half an hour. From The fold5. Still very slow, isnt it? Couldve been cuz of the heat.

I'm as pleased as you but it's not a global phone and it's not got a GMS switch like my Magic V3 Huawei is also mid for anyone in the west for that reason, some apps simply won't work with Huawei even using GSpace or MicroG GBox.... And it's chip is really not good either, but what it DOES mean is that we will soon see a Honor version and a global Honor version 😃

I think you've completely missed the main reason they got all those orders, it's because you get a full widescreen picture the whole screen, a normal fold isn't that much bigger to watch movies ETC than a candy bar.
Yes and to be fair i think thats what Mike meant about travellers who want to consume media or do work. Aspect ratio is such an under discussed topic and focus is wrongly on the diagonal size.

I thought the same thing.
But since using the Pixel Fold the last couple weeks - it's night and day usage-wise compared to my iPhone 15 or even the larger Pixel 8 Pro.
It's coming in handy not only for media consumption - but for other audio/visual apps - ie. Capcut, Recorder app etc
The most incredible thing is that HuaWei pulled this off despite the all-encompassing sanctions from the collective West. That's a real accomplishment.

if you use a regular fold phone, the crease would be in the middle of your view, where the quality matters the most. This Tri fold eliminates the problem of that crease distorting views where you care the most. This is a premium device and it is for premium customer. EVERYONE with money would want this phone if the governments and politicians don't interfere.
Cant wait for the 10th generation when its priced at what normal folds are atm

Get your money ready and look for a bargain, when the early Huawei folds came out they were thousands of pounds but I got one less than half price from a returns warehouse so opened but basically brand new.

The max refresh is 90hz not 120hz… possibly due to battery constraint. But 90hz should be sufficient for non-gaming purposes.
Wow! Just what I was waiting for! Thanks so much. I think at $5k and the lack of 5G and software support for the US market I can now go back and focus on the Honor Magic V3 Pro and the upcoming OnePlus Open 2. This is just what I needed to know!

I think Huawei could have made the mate xt much cheaper if they excluded those expensive air buds. Probably $300 less, but it's Huawei and they know their stuff will sell.
Thr phone was aimed at people on fight ETC so that's why they were included but the interest is clearly way bigger than they thought.
At least it give nice free casing come with the box.

I just bought the XT through your website (the 1T version). I live (and work) in California. Hopefully you'll make a future video on how to do the workarounds to use this in the U.S. I saw where they were avail. on Ebay for about $500 less... But I wanted to support you since I'll hopefully be getting future advice from you on how to make it work in the states. 👍

It is a gorgeous device that combines the Mate XS with the Mate X3/5 into one sleek device with two hinges.
Thanks a lot for the video. I don't think it's fair to say that Huawei devices don't have google apps anymore. It's a very minor inconvenience to install microg and get everything, apart from Google pay and android auto, working perfectly. Not ideal by any means but anyone savvy enough to watch your channel should easily be able to do it. With regards to durability I would not worry too much. Remember that the first foldable from Huawei was outward folded, and there were never any issues of durability. I personally know someone who has one for 3 years. Battery and software optimisation to make use of the huge screen are the biggest questions in my mind. Thanks again kind regards from Angola

I couldn't do something like that I had to repay every penny. Yes it is a very nice device it's got a big display. You can always get external batteries for it if you're on the go.
I have auto Android on my Mate 50Pro. It's also wireless connection. Worked with Audi Q4 etron. Now on my Mercedes GLB it connected instantly.

My biggest worry with this phone is when phone mode hoe durable is thar front screen? Is it as delicate as the normal internal tablet screens?
This is a really good question - Huawei has a positive history in this space with the Huawei Mate Xs2 and people really rate its durability very positively.
My years old Huawei mate 9 is still the best phone I ever had and believe me, I have had a few phones, And in Australia here, I would love to get this phone. We can only hope,,
I like the idea but I hate the fact that the 3rd screen's exposed to the outside when folded. That's definitely going to get scratched easily, no?

Quick quick put some distance between now & that vid where he called it a gimmick, it's actually THE phone we've all been wanting for several years, a full aspect ratio (well very close) screen that folds.

I was skeptical about the point of a trifold (disregarding the price) but a trifold does seem like a meaningful upgrade from a bifold. the value increase of going up to an actual tablet size screen is a lot greater, especially because the aspect ratio is much better, particularly for videos (+ there's still a bi-folding option).

Honor which is a subdivision of huawei will quickly launch their own based on the initial orders and reaction and timing will be fast as they have access to the tech

The battery capacity makes sense when you account for the aggressive battery management system of Chinese roms, I doubt this would be released globally any time soon
Huawei's 7nm node functions at 5nm level according to Nikkei Asia.
Waiting to see how these earlier adopter units fair. Especially with that exposed edge. That's gonna be the weakness on this product.

for the price, you can get a good gaming laptop, a good tablet and a good phone. If you spend that much for a phone, you get a bulky phone, a not so good tablet, and not good gaming device. It is just not a good combinations, if the price is below 1k that maybe worthy to get.
I look forward to seeing what companies like Honor, Vivo, and Xiaomi do to compete.

thanks for the review..let me clear it up for most people before they panic...the battery life on this tab will be similar to any other normal foldables if used for multi purpose usage for one reason... all normal foldables like the V3 i have ..infact have 3 screens... :)
the XT has 3 screens as well :)
the battery management of huawei is superior from what i have seen and read (as good as Apple perhaps) ....battery being 5600 is larger than the 5150 on V3.
the tradeoff is that on a normal foldable you only use 2 screens max at the same time as the outer screen goes dark when in foldable mode. however; if you use the XT extensively in the tri-fold mode then you are going to use all 3 screens.
but lets take the position of a normal person..nobody will want to spend 10 hours continuously or throughout a day on a tab if the purpose is also to use it as a phone!!
the battery being larger than a normal foldable but with higher use if used in tri-fold mode can tilt it either way depending on your usage..
if you only use the tri-forld for example for a couple of hours a day and the main purpose is to use it as a phone then most likely you will get a full day of battery easily...
I think you can get 6 hours min from the XT even if used in tri-fold mode continuously.

Tri-fold is a game changer, not some new camera button on the fruit brand. 5 million orders. Gouge prices in CN are rmb30K-256, rmb40k-512, rmb60k-1T.
Too rich for me now, but pretty sure within a year or 2, Honor, Vivo, Oppo, Xiaomi will probably be on their 2.0 versions of tri-folds for under rmb10k - that's when I'll get one.

Solid statement it's a tablet with a foldable phones battery. As much as i love huawei this is the only issue. Business travelers may be perfect, but you'll have to charge it.
I guess this phone will have mixed usage tho between one, two and three screens so overall the battery should be sufficient unless it is in tablet mode all day. Remember that there's a pretty weak midrange SoC as well so perhaos that'll help battery life
What happens if a screen breakes? What are repair costs?

Thanks for this dialog. I am exactly the target user of the Mate XT, and to my surprise my wife was in favour when I showed her. As my wife is in China with a Huawei store a few minutes from our apartment, I will wait to see then and decide if to order - although sounds like long wait. If when you review you can demonstrate adding Google apps, that would be appreciated. The other phone I have some interest is the Honor Magic V3, although it now seems a bit like a poor man's substitute against the Mate XT.
Been okay with my Microsoft surface duo 2 now look at hauwei has made me forget my surface duo 2

This is very true. Reminds me of how Apple launched their Airpods Max overear headset for double what Bose and Sony were charging for their flagship headsets, yet Apple sold theirs by the bucket load as they were fashionable. 500 quid vs 5,000 is very different tho!

People will use it on the go in their everyday lives, i.e. it won't be in full tablet mode most of the time, as such the battery may be sufficient. The thin factor doesn't have a negative impact, no one accidentally bends their tablets or even end up putting them in a position for damage because how people use tablets. The argument that it's for travelers is unlikely given the 5 millions pre-orders. Huawei has just blown all competitors out the water... at some point Google will lobby to get back to have it's OS on Huawei's devices as it is clearly one again the most innovative in terms of hardware (Apple just released a really underwhelming phone and Samsung lost the fold category).
Not an essential item. So, only for those who find the price to be trivial. Maybe for wealthy tech nerds.

In terms of use case scenarios Incan think of many people who would love this but arent traveler's. Anyone who gives constant presentations, meets clients in person to sell products, anyone who llves to watch netflix or TH-cam on the go. The aspect ratio makes it much much better for video consumption.
True, tho there are still fairly big black bezels on some of the video content shown in vids so far. TVs have this problem too, so i guess there is no real solution.
