This is my first choice for watching reviews of laptops from now.
Got this for my mom, build quality is great for the materials used, Lenovo really knows their stuff with materials. Feels like a much more expensive, Al/Mg chassis than it is. Performance for what most moms use it - awesome and it does well in more demanding stuff too. Sticking to Lenovo these days is not too hard, owning several ThinkPads has taught me that.
Totaly agree. I have got flex 5i version, aviable in europe, and comparing to my thinkpad yoga I am impressed, not much difference except keyboard.
This is my next laptop. Just waiting for the sales later in the year. Fingers crossed
These are selling out. I looked for one for my brother, and these are rare especially now that we are going back to work. I am wanting a 4700u based unit with 16gb ram and 512gb ssd. I want 300 nits brightness and doesn't need to be perfect on color space. It is less than a grand. AMD has awoken the giant. I am running a Ryzen 7 8 core desktop and love it. My video editing goes great.
Costco US has that 4700U version for $750 and it's still in stock as of right now

Yes, I picked up a Lenovo IdeaPad 5 with the 4700U. It sold out in hours and apparently so hard that they discontinued that model. HP is starting to roll out their Ryzen 4000 laptops, so might want to check out the Envy x360 2-in-1. Bought one from Amazon for $599. 4500U+16G RAM+256G SSD. Love it! Costco has 4700U+16G+512G SSD for $749, I think it’s a great deal as well.
Wish they selected the SMT models. power consumption is not that much different and I'm sure people will be happy to pay a bit more for double the thread count. non SMT models shouldn't even be a thing now.
I've tried to find this in the uk,but so far nothing with this sort of spec.
I wish there was an option for 4800U
I bought the Costco version and it's great. With Costco, you get 2 years of warranty, but there's no pen.
@@the80386 SMT is useful only if you do actual heavy work on a laptop- but for simple media consumption 6c/6t is more than enough. And for games- the bottleneck is on the iGPU anyways. So for most users- no SMT CPUs are just fine, even if planning to use the laptop for ~5 years. In that sense- picking 16GB of (soldered) RAM is more important.

Any ideas for when it will be released yet? I have ordered the IdeaPad 5 with the Ryzen 4800U for now. They do seem almost identical?
@@firasco There are some differences- different RAM/bandwidth (performance difference needs to be tested), Slim7 pushes a bit more power, has (an option?) of a brighter screen, and is a bit more high-end in price and build. What I liked in Lenovo slides- they say it supports freesync- if true, that would be really nice to have.
@@firasco A store in Finland is estimating the 4800U Slim 7 to arrive in week 31 (last week of July/first week of August), and week 30 for the 4700U version. Don't know how reliable that is, but it's all I've got.
Still waiting as well, assuming it has option for a nicer screen. The mediocre screen is the main reason I haven't jumped on the Flex 5... at least we've finally moved away from 1366x768 though, right?!

it's flex 5 here in Greece. I think the previous flex 14 was for some reason called c340-14API. 🤷♂️

Hey Lisa, awesome review as always! Been your fans since 2010. I have the Flex 4 with the same physical ports layout. Can I ask you for a favor to check if your demo unit has the same USB port issue I am experiencing on mine. With the two USB ports on the right, if you have something (eg. usb mouse dongle) plug in to the port closer to the LCD hinge. Whenever theres an another USB device plug in to the second USB port, first device disappears until you disconnect the second. I have tried with multiple types of devices(eg. dongles, external HD, USB drives) and they are disappearing as well. So far I am only able to find a few recent posts on Lenovo support forum with this issue. Thanks Lisa!

I've got a bad feeling that what if we end up losing this fantastic reviewer due to the viewing ratings in comparison to those others with soo little in depth reviews and just a few bullet points with Alot of flashy graphics...I hope she doesn't give up on this channel and in those who trust her voice above all others...
What about the display on outside sunlight use? It is the screen readable in a sunny day?

A premium laptop with AMD Ryzen 4000 series processor would be perfect right now.
Looking for advice. Ive not had a laptop in over 10 years now. I do everything on my phone however I've just started making TH-cam videos and now I'm considering getting a laptop to do the editing on instead of using my phone to do it all on. Would this be a good laptop to start with as I cant remember anything about laptops and I will need to learn how to use 1 again. Thanks for any advice

My laptop from 2015 has it's limit's, it's time to buy this one
Is it just mine or does the fan on this laptop get pretty loud when plugged in to a high resolution external monitor (2560x1080 or higher) and on ac power? Can't seem to get this fan to quiet down and it is super annoying.
PC is fast otherwise. But weakpoints are definitely screen color accuracy, weight (relative to macbook pro or xps 13), and build quality which is two tiers below MBP or XPS13.
I'm nowhere near needing a new laptop, just watching 'cus i enjoy your reviews :)

Just wondering.... how does the graphics perform as compared to say a dedicated GPU like the nvidia 330mx and 350mx?

Surprisingly, since the graphics had been a strong point for AMD, the Intel Iris Plus benchmarks a little better.

I recently got the previous generation with Ryzen 7 3700U and it performs really well. I can just imagine how this one will be with the improved AMD cpu.
How is it going now? Still performs? Any lagging or other issues arise?
@@95shila no lagging and still running well, even with the upgrade to Windows 11. I wouldn't use it for any heavy gaming, but it would probably work fine for some light gaming.
Thanks for the review. If I'm not wrong, is it the first Ryzen Laptop review in the channel? By the way, this model is only $600 in Amazon and Ryzen 5 4500u performs way better than any U series Core i5 or i7 CPU, whether Comet Lake or Whiskey Lake. Graphics performance is more than double than UHD 620 and in fact, slightly ahead of Iris Plus G7 in i7-1065G7.

Question: Coil whine was noted. Is the noise transmitted through the speakers themselves or is it from the electronics?
Is this a complete touchscreen laptop? Or it can be used only with a touch pen?
im writing on one of these laptops atm guys this is a beast especially in games at 720p go grab it fast.
