Happy Anniversary to you and your wife Walter! Fantastic video of your anniversary road trip and all your charging stops. Thank you for sharing it with us.
Walter, great content as always. I was born 13 miles from Jackson TN & that whole area has changed so much since the 70s/80s. Congrats on your anniversary.
Man you continue to deliver. I hope you have a wonderful trip and thank your significant other for all the time you devote to this and the thoroughness.
I love your road trip videos! When I was considering buying a Lyriq your road trip videos was one of the things that convinced me that long road trips wouldn’t be a problem.
First, Happy 25th!! My wife and I just celebrated our 50th, AND we just got back last week to Florida from our trip to Arizona in our Ioniq 5. Almost like parallel lives. LOL! I do really like these new Pilot Flying J stations. We used them almost exclusively up and down I-75 between here and Ohio in our Bolt EUV and enjoyed burning through our $500 EVgo credit. Now we’re using our 2 years of free EA road tripping the Ioniq 5 which has about 7,000 local miles and 10,000 road tripping miles. EA seems to be improving, but I think once our free EA use expires, I’ll be using a lot more EVgo. I’m always appreciative of your and others’ road tripping videos. I made lots of videos before I retired as a missionary in Honduras. But I’m so goal oriented, I can’t make myself take the extra time to video the charging stops and so on when traveling. I had planned to make myself make a video on this last trip and gave up after the first charging stops. LOL! So keep up the good work.
Awesome video showing an awesome trip! Glad to see this. I did Abilene, TX to LA California with no problems. Used the EA network all the way. No issues.....
It's a whole different view seeing a full road trip on P-FJ (except for the friendly Hyundai dealer with their inexplicably low power DCFC and the rusting roots of our old warhorse, EA). Obviously your site reviews capture the quality of a canopy but the value, stop-after-stop, of charging within a half mile of the exit and reliably similar amenities really comes across in the video. Required viewing for any charging vendor!
Thanks for another great update, Walter. Happy Anniversary! Lucinda and I just celebrated our 36th in September. As a person who grew up in Amarillo, I can confirm your assessment, "not a lot around here."
Great video. Great drive, car, and mostly easy good speed charging. It is great to know that you are forging these trails for us so that we can be confident in our upcoming trips and maybe our 40th dating anniversary trip (37married) in 2026!!!!! Thank you and your betrothed for letting us travel with you two!!!
Love how your wife clarifies it's her car. That's a nice route and I took it from Lexington South Carolina to Santa Fe New Mexico on my way home this fall in my ID.4.
We stopped in Santa Fe for a visit. Really cool place. Lots of international skiers in our hotel. Downtown was super cool. We spent about 5 hrs walking round
Hey Walter, happy anniversary and congratulations to you and your beautiful bride! It's nice to see PFJ's coast-to-coast network almost completed along that route. Looks like it won't be long now. I have to say I'm surprised that the Love's bathroom in New Mexico was so bad. Love's is considered to be a high quality travel center chain with outstanding restrooms.
Thanks Walter for this and we welcome the drone your vlog. I'm really hoping OEMs would have a much better range prediction on their EVs especially for those new to the EV world. I'm glad to see the growing numbers of EV DC fast of chargers.
The video does not reflect the experience well with respect to the GOM. I personally find the android automotive to be class leading, which is why so many are using it.
Gr8 vid as usual. I noticed that the EV stations weren't very busy. This was a very good thing. I hate waiting in line. A lot videos I've seen where charging occurs they are normally rather busy. Congratulations on the anniversary and Happy New Year!🚗🇺🇸🔌⚡
Thanks for posting this. We are planning a long road trip for next summer and were debating whether to take my wife’s LYRIq or my Mach E, but it looks from your video like the LYRIq is a pretty good road tripper.
@ 19th century Electrify America station oh my God, I can’t stop giggling. By the way Buster Brown, I got two beautiful years of Electrify America for free from Hyundai from January 2022 to January 2024 so stop.
Thanks for the video. Very informative. The Lyric looks great but, I'll stick with my Ioniq 6. We have an average charging time of around 16 minutes per stop.
Happy Anniversary trip, Walter! When I drove to North Carolina from Southern Utah, I charged 16 times, simply because I can only drive so long before needing a bathroom break -so I might as well plug in while stopped. I had to chuckle at your perception of what the weather and temperatures are like in our ultra dry, high deserts. I'm delighted that you got to see the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. And the air was fairly clean and clear that day! Personally, I much prefer the North Rim, but it is more difficult to get there in an EV, as the only DCFC stations are in Kanab, Utah.
Nice video and great info. In November I did a road trip in my Kona EV from Sedona, AZ to the San Francisco Bay Area and back. I used the EA network with no issues.
Every time you said "hey google What's my battery percent" Usually my Google told me the percentage of my robot vacuum one time it told me the percentage of my lawn mower😂
@thenetworkarchitectchannel Yeah, what's my battery percentage Wasn't much collateral damage. Now had you said, "Hay Google play baby shark", them fighting words.
I was trying to figure out why you kept asking google what your battery percentage was. Then I realize it does not show your SOC. That’s one reason I went with the Blazer with the 102 kWh battery. This is very helpful since our vehicles are similar. Really enjoy your videos. Thank you.
47:19 Welcome to the West! This is pretty common in the higher elevations of the West. It's the extremely low humidity. I've walked outside in shorts and a t-shirt, not realizing that it was only 20 F until I looked at the thermometer.
Could you do a video reviewing the Google Maps EV Route Planning for GM vehicles/Android Automotive in general? Or if you have any other tips too. It would be much appreciated!
Amazing to think using this many Pilot Flying J stations would not have been possible even 6 months ago. Also, do you have a review video about the LYRIQ? My uncle is considering buying one and he wants opinions.
Great video, I’ve been thinking about a drone as well. I’ve wanted to video from above charging stations to show exactly what you’re showing, stay safe.
@ That’s awesome. I have a “fat” E Tron myself and wish it had the same range as the Lyriq - fortunately it somewhat makes up for it with charging speed. Ironically on my way back from a trip to Toronto, I (finally) stopped at a Flying J EVGo station near Buffalo, NY. Despite it being bitter cold, it was a solid experience. Excited to see more coming on board. Happy New Year, thanks for another great video.
Loved the sarcasm. Rumor has it, Electrify America won the West, building sufficient charging infrastructure for Conestoga wagons and the Pony Express alike.
@@JohnCap523 What are you driving? Sounds like E-GMP. It's really going to depend on whether you're sharing power. In my limited time with an E-GMP, I saw ~240 kW using an EVgo 350 kW charger.
@ EV6. Yea, I’m eager to see how it does at an iONNA Rechargery on those Alpitronics. I saw numerous Ioniq 5s and EV6s on various videos at both Apex and Scranton Rechargeries but don’t recall any of them showing what they got up to, especially when sharing. Hasn’t been clear to me how they split power, whether say I could get 240-ish while a Bolt got 50 or if the split max is 200, which someone said in one of the videos.
I think most pilot flying j gas station should invest into some battery backups if not for the extra power when storms come thru they can use the power for the ev chargers when the cost is higher with that use case it would pay off the battery backups off just off of the cheaper rates of energy
My local Hyundai (we have R1T and Ioniq6) says I can charge at Hyundai and just let them know. However, I don't know if they will let us in the Rivian. Of course, I'll check Plugshare prior. Cool that Hyundai lets the Lyriq charge for free.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Thanks for sharing. During your 4000 mile trip did you stop at a Tesla Supercharger so you could compare the charging?
Nice video with plenty of details. Wish you would have mentioned the time driving between stops for the mathematically challenged like you did on your first stop. These Flying J's are very well located with pull through stalls and a canopy. It's too bad they normally install only 2 shared chargers for a total of 4 ports. And the selection of EVgo going with Delta chargers with their long history of unreliability is very unfortunate. Even EA has stopped using them anymore. This is where IONNA has gotten it right. And the Liriq is very nice, but can't understand why GM did not go with their 800V charging option since Cadillac is on the high end of their vehicle lineup and has a relatively large battery.
Great trip. As I'm watching I wonder why you persevered at West Memphis up to 95%? Clearly the station had an issue causing a long charging stop. Why not charge just enough to get to one of your bailout options?
I had a high SoC starting so the slower speed was at the slower portion of the charging curve making it of little significance in what I was trying to accomplish. I figured it added ~15 min. Happy new yr!
