Mattie Montgomery was the lead screamer of this band before they broke up. He now pastors a church in Johnson City, Tennessee. This band was absolutely fearless in their sharing of the gospel of Jesus. They toured with many non-christian bands and would host bible studies while on tour. Mattie would share the gospel on every stage he set foot on. I was at a few of those shows here in Texas and can tell you the Holy Spirit was very tangible in those moments. This world needs more metalcore bands like For Today. I would recommend checking out Silent Planet next. Peace and blessings to you.

Man if you want HEAVY Christian metal, I suggest “Impending Doom” and “Oh,Sleeper” If you want convicting lyrics with heavy music? I’d say “My Epic” and “Dayseeker”

04-like 2012 had so much good Christian metal music. nearly every good metalcore band was at least a little Christian.

Touching on what you say about taunting the devil, this is actually a biblical principal. The Word talks about speaking with the enemy within his gates in the context of warning, of declaration of victory in the Name of God. In the same sense, David wrote in Psalms to make a joyful noise. That word “noise” in the KJV speaks of a warning, a summoning of warriors, a battle cry, it actually means a piercing sound, to mar by breaking. So for Mattie to say “let the devil come” is to say, “I will not walk in the spirit of fear because I know who paid the price for my salvation, and I will make a joyful noise unto the Lord in the face of my enemy.”
This reminds me of when I first came to Lord. I was in middle school and showed a lot of interest and then I found out that there was such a thing of Christian Metal and other genres! lol. Good stuff bro

Ok, so you’re the first person to get me listening to heavy metal - seriously not my ‘cup of tea’!! 😆 BUT hanging in there and listening (I did hear his words by the way) I can appreciate it. Can’t say I’ll be adding it to my playlist. I’ve always struggled with the demonic sounding voice singing too - strange to hear it in a Christian song, but I guess it’s reaching a different audience - maybe angry people 😡😤😬?!Generally leaves me uncomfortable though. They seem to do what they do well though.
The coolest part of Mattie's (lead vocalist) ministry is that because of the nature of their music they were invited to tour with a bunch of atheistic and satanist bands, and Mattie is an anointed pastor as well, so he would always delay vocals and end them early so that He could preach to them and he saw so many people come to Christ at tours that would've never heard the word otherwise. It's definitely a specific crowd

That was fun!! I was always the odd ball out in school - and chorus and ensemble groups, everyone was kind of into Pop and I was a complete metalhead. It’s always been my first love. I got into grunge rock like this hard metal after high school but ventured away because my husband couldn’t stand it. So I just got a double dip, first I was able to rekindle a old love and to listen to some hard metal. Second I found out it was a Christian band so SCORE!! Yessssss!!!

As a Christian I would fully agree with your analysis of this song 🙂
The ending might be taken by a lot of people as taunting, I can def see that. But as someone who’s pretty active in warfare, if you don’t face Lucifer/Satan/the devil head on, he will trip you up. Heavy warfare is not for everyone, but being a Christian is basically signing up for a fight. Also, a Christian who knows their bible doesn’t fear Satan, so we shouldn’t be afraid of mentioning him. I wouldn’t have conversations with the guy but I’m not gonna give him special treatment out of fear. He’s a liar, a thief, a murderer, etc, so I’m going to treat him like it.
I'd agree in a sense, though it would depend on what you mean by all of that.
I'm curious, are you familiar with Dr Michael Heiser's work?
He has a podcast called the Naked Bible podcast, which is to say, it's just about exploring the Bible for what it is in the contexts from which it comes. He is a Biblical Hebrew scholar, PhD in semetic languages, and is one of the world's foremost experts on the biblical views of the spiritual world. His book, Unseen Realm, has incredible insight.
Anyway, he talks to some friends of his in one of his Naked Bible podcast episodes about spiritual warfare who deal specifically with victims of spiritual abuse. These two incredible women have a ministry devoted to the people that most churches wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole, simply because they have no idea what to do, traditional deliverance ministries have been ineffective in seeing the breakthrough they need.
There are things going on that most Christians in our modern western context don't understand about what the Bible says. The satan, demons, angels, powers, principalities, rulers of spiritual darkness in the heavenly realm, the assembly of the Sons of God, all of them have some subtle but important differences in the bible that we hand wave away quite typically, and we do so at the peril of people who are spiritually opressed or possessed.
If we don't minister to these people correctly, we risk the very real danger of causing more damage to people who are already suffering desperately.

I’ve heard of Michael Heiser, but I’m not sure if I’ve read/listened to anything of his. What I mean is I’m not going to live my life as if being spiritually complacent is safe. When ministering to people, it is very important to know the nuances and workings of both sides of the war. I work with people who have DID as a result of SRA. Its even more dangerous for these people to live in fear.
What I meant by my previous statement is that if you are a Christian, you have signed up for a war. And if you aren’t even aware of the war then you’re in big trouble. But that doesn’t mean you fear the enemy. You beat them over the head with the shed blood of Yeshua, and he fights the battle. He’s a winner, so I’m a winner, because I’m in Him, and I dont fear what He has victory over.
I hope that clears some stuff up. Are there any other authors you would recommend?

Will Ehrendreich Thank you for the encouragement, brother. I followed her for a good while and was sad that she felt pressured to leave TH-cam. I think they have a lot of good info and is a very good resource for people who want to know more about DID. I don’t know them or the system, but as a youtuber, I enjoyed their videos. Its important for people to know that multiples aren’t crazy or possessed (for the most part. Being DID does not make you these things, but it can still happen).
But I feel like there is also a lot of info that cant really be shared about DID from someone who is not spiritually alive. I know that Nin has/had a part who is religious, but that’s not really the point. There is a lot that happens in the life of someone who is an SRA survivor that just cant be shown to mainstream audiences. For people who are survivors of “ordinary” abuse can learn a lot from her videos (ordinary as in not done to purposefully split the mind). For someone who is an SRA survivor, its a good foundation, but you need to dig deeper.

Most specificly this is post-hardcore. Really enjoy this stile of music. With less screamo, though xD my favourite band of post-hard core is Our Last Night!! Check the Ghost In The Machine song from them (not a Christian band though).
If you're doing more metal/ hardcore music you gotta check out August Burns Red... Their Constellations album is really good, especially the songs Mariana's Trench, White Washed, and Meddler. Their drummer is one of the best you'll ever hear 🙌🙂 They're also from my hometown of Manheim, PA so I'm a bit biased 😉
This is a breath of fresh air from the common CCM format. and it just goes to show that Christian music will not be boxed in a certain pattern. @LozAura did you not hear them quote Psalm 23 in this song? For Today’s lyrics are straight from scripture. Their vocalist Mattie ended the band to follow God’s call to be an evangelist. One night at one of their shows, Mattie met a guy who was planning to commit suicide that night. Mattie prayed for him and he accepted Christ right there in a dark alley after the show! Do not judge based on the sound. Christianity has many different forms of expression. God can work through anything that’s done in His name. Don’t limit the Holy Spirit.
