Your a credit to the motorcycle community JB. Taking the time to produce this video when you could have just enjoyed the ride with your buddies. Keep in mind you probably saved a lot of newbies and veterans. Cheers buddy.
Thank you so much for this valuable information. I haven't rode a motorcycle since the mid 70s. Durthat time i was riding on country roads without traffic . Your information may have saved my life . I was never taught to ride a motorcycle .I'm purchasing my first bike May 3,2024 . Thank you 😊
Great video, John. I had my last motorcycle accident in 1981, Riding all this time using the precautions you mentioned. I even use the same assumptions when driving my car. Over the years, I've seen drivers get more distracted, impolite, and less skilled. Motorcycling is more dangerous now. Ride safe, buddy. 👍🏾🙏🏾
Awesome sound advice, especially when it comes to big trucks. I've been driving semi for 37 years, and people will just hang right next to me for miles and miles, all it takes is a blown tire and the tread could literally rip your head right off.. always leave an out! Great channel, and keep those tires pavement down!
I agree with 99% of these points. But it’s not always advisable to go faster than the flow of traffic. Most occasions, yes, but not always. Here in Houston, the freeway/highway speeds are set at 65(usually). However, NOBODY does 65. 75-80 is the steady flow. Just is what it is. 80-85 in this bumper to bumper traffic is simply more unsafe than driving a reasonable speed. The people here just jump lanes and never use turn signals. This is exactly why i stay off the loops and freeways in Houston. On roads like you are driving, absolutely agree. That’s not as congested as what we have here.
Great video with great content on safety . Hope all the new riders take your advice. I’ve been riding for 35 years . Your safety tips were excellent. I am always learning and listening to good advice. Great content again John
Being a new rider when I see videos like this that talks about safe riding I always watch and learn new or different tips that will help me be a safer rider. Thanks so much for putting in the time it takes to put up a video like this but for being a true brother that cares about other riders safety. Thanks man.
One point to remember as well. Watch big rigs with a load. Things can fly off a flatbed which did happen to me years ago. A cardboard flew off and went over my head going 70 on the freeway. I also don't ride next to a big rig due to a blowout will take you out with rubber hitting you in the face or body. I always keep tabs on trucks more than cars due to the fact they may not see you and move over without seeing you. Just a thought.
This is a priceless video. I’ve only been riding 3.5 years but everything you talked about, I’m glad to say, I do. Others I ride with who have years more experience, clearly don’t!!! I understand everyone needs to ride their ride, but I want to make sure I have more rides to look forward to….also If I’m at the front of an intersection, I actually try not to be first away, I’m waiting to be sure all other vehicles are stationary and just last week, waiting and checking for that split second saved mine and my wife’s life! Thanks for everything you do, so much respect for you.
It's called situational awareness. So many riders have no clue. I'm 69 been riding since I was 16 and still riding. And yes you wont learn a lot of this in a class. The safety classes are much improved but can only teach so much. You can read a book on how to do anything but until you actually do it and gain experience you wont understand. Good video. Stay safe. Also that's why I keep my phone put away out of reach and ride a Road King . No gauges, no music/ infotainment infotainment etc for distractions.
As a trucker of 45 years and rider for about half that I can tell you that you're spot on about lingering alongside a large truck. When a truck tire blows, it does so with incredible force. I've had many blowouts over the years one of which took out the taillight and mud flap brackets. It ripped the metal like it was paper. Also, as a driver, I appreciate when someone doesn't linger next to me. PS, those remnants of blown truck tires on the side of the road, we call them "Alligators".
Thank you for sharing this video & info! I do not like listing to music when riding my bike only thing I turn on cardo & GoPro and two way video camera!
as a truck driver you are 100% right. never stay next to us. mithbusters did a video on a semi tire blowing up and how bad it really is. plus we cant see much. behind us or right beside the cab is a bad place. also a lot of truck drivers are stupid and dont pay attention. its sad but true. also yes we can fall asleep easy. we work 6 days a week 70 hours. every week. god bless you guys. be safe.
Great tips, however one small point you overlooked, oncoming cars doing a left turn on a divided highway, town situations are worse. I have lost a few friends this way, you have NO WAY to avoid them! Whenever I see a car stopped in the meriden signalling to turn left I approach with real caution and try and look at the drivers eyes to hopefully get their attention. Your tip about staggered riding is also very valid, a few years back my buddy was riding in a straight line formation, the bike in front braked unexpectingly, he could not avoid it, hit it, sailed through the air and when he landed he was implaled on a metal spiked fence, he died at the scene!
I am a beginner rider and I will say this video is awesome. Most of what you covered is stuff I naturally already do while I’m on my Road Glide, but there were a few things I hadn’t thought of and they weren’t taught in the riders course. I definitely appreciate that. Love your content. Keep it coming man.
Great indepth instructional video! My son is a new rider so i forwarded it to him to help educate him. Shadetree has a dramatic video on his channel showing exactly how dangerous it can be while sitting at a red light. There is a major crash happens right beside him with a car missing him by inches. Cell phones have made riding so much more dangerous than it used to be. I have lost count of the near misses i have had because of drivers messing with their phones. Thanks for taking time to help educate riders, especially the new riders.
This is very good advice, especially on driving around tractor trailers. When those tires blow out it is extremely loud and violent causing the cap of the tire to fly away from the truck or trailer, potentially causing very serious bodily harm or death. Also the brake pads and other parts sometimes come loose and fly off which can take your head off. Do not ride or drive around semi trucks, not even in your car! Very good advice in this video! I'm a truck driver for 30 years and can't count how many blowouts I've had over the years, it happens fairly often
great video John , I usually on the highway stay closest to the car I'm passing so the car can see me then just before I pass I go to the farthest side of the lane away from the car, but I agree with you
I liked your input. Very insightful. I drive a semi and a bike. He is shooting straight with you. But yes I learned from this video as well. Thank you for your time and insight.
Great tips John! 😊 I use a magnetic case to put my phone on my gas tank but will be getting a mount for my handlebars! And also on another note, watching you ride with your son brings fond memories back for me as I rode along side my mom from the age of 18 to late into my 30s (mother/daughter bonding was so awesome) and I miss riding with my mom. She decided to sell her bike a few years ago when she got a little older…. Celine from Quebec, Canada😊
Me too. Yes, I still carry a phone, but it's only to use when I'm away from the motorcycle (eg arrive at a destination), so it's not mounted on the handlebar, it's actually stored where I cannot touch it whilst riding. The less distractions the better. When I ride, I don't even have my gear indicator showing ... that's one less unnecessary distraction removed.
Great informational video for new riders. I’ve been riding motorcycles for 50 years when I started people were more respectful of bikers. But times have changed dramatically and people are so easily distracted by conversation cell phones and information from other devices they may have. I can’t Tell you how many times I’ve talked to individuals about riding next to18 wheelers including and cars. Always always keep your head on a swivel focus on your right. Thank you again John for putting this video out for the new riders enjoy your ride and be safe.
Hi John, this is a serious important video. Your emphasis on all these important safety observations. Yes, this is common sense but there is a serious lack of that in today’s population. Do not ever touch your phone on a bike! I am glad to tell you that I follow every one of your tips. I was MC licensed in 1965. Currently on a 2023 all black SGS…. Thank you for doing this video.
Ass a truck driver myself you couldn’t have explained that better .Also remember we have more blind spots than a car and a motorcycle is a lower profile vehicle which makes it harder to spot. Great explanation John thanks we need more videos like this.
great info John.. guys like Moto Jitsu and Dan Dan the fireman do this safety content.. thanks for adding your 30 yrs of experience to do this PSA on a beautiful day when you could just be chillin w your crew.. I’m a 30 yr rider whos always watching these types of videos.. always learning and refreshing the knowledge base..
I couldn’t get your sons Chanel from your link for some unknown reason, luckily it showed up on TH-cam Home so I now have it. Cam sounds like he’s been doing TH-cam for several years, what a natural. In Canada B.C. it is quite often that they will run the red light regardless.
Priceless video John!!! I loved it when you mentioned the the truly “impressive “ things.. like getting home to your wife and enjoy life.. I’ve always said that to myself too.. that’s impressive to me!!! ✌🏼😎 I like the fact that I personally started riding at 37, when you’re young you’re young.. and by no means I’m underestimating a young one’s ability to ride safe. But life teaches you many things!!!
Awesome video, watched it several times thank you! I’m east coast as well on Li. Would you consider making a video on lane selection on a 2-4 lane highway and lane position. Would def help a lot of riders. Keep the vids coming!
Thank you 4 all the insight I just started watching your chanel as I'm learning more about gear saftey bikes as the only things I dont have is phone mount or carplay device and on my highway riding I ryde slow speeds 60-70 enless on semis im passing them as my 03 sportser is ruff riding @ 60mph the cars shake in my mirrors no rubber mounts
Awesome content Sir!!! Can I add....experienced riders should take a riding class every so often. Not only will it enhance your skills but your safety mindset will improve also! RIDE SAFE, RIDE OFTEN!!
Come on, Dad, you have more than enough room for a 3rd bike in the garage. IT'S a sin to have a Harley outside without a cover on it. Come on Dad let Cam put his Harley 8n the garage.🫡👍
lots good common sense reminders for sure! i keep my phone off in my bag and zipped up , i use my dedicated GPS for trips bc i don't wanna see calls, texts or emails on a ride no music either ....
Thank you sir for your info I just took a long ride from Monday to until today from Tobyhanna pa down to the bottom of Va by myself for my first long run and your info really helped me out thanks again sir.
I love your tips but any advice on what to tell the cops when you get pulled over for speeding past semi's , here in Ohio they are very strict on speeding
Great video with great content and gawd only knows how many crashes you may have prevented. But, I have to admit that I chuckled several times while watching a bike safety video I saw you riding with no hands on the handlebars. LOL
Great video dude. Road strategies can save our lives. Time and distance to react. Speed differential is also important. A little bit of aggressive riding might also come into play. Important one: making sure that car behind you stops before while keeping that bike in gear.
Your video was great & you had a lot to cover & it definitely will save these young guys lives if they follow your steps, also when you stop at a light or behind the car in traffic its good to sit behind on either side of the car in front of you to AVOID OIL SLICKS!!!!🙂😉
5:45 "They do not see me" - 100% best advice ever. Pretend every driver is not paying attention and can see as well as Stevie Wonder. You'll live longer.
Wow , dude 10 minutes into your video and you’re amazing, brilliant safety first , I have been riding for years also , my wife for only a few years and I always say make a safety bubble and all the cars want to kill you and as a bicyclist, same tips apply but , you have a lot more words , man you should be endorsed
Great video, john, very informative, i have been riding nearly 50,years ,your riding tips ,and knowledge, is great, have a great Christmas, and best wishes for 2024,to your family, and everyone ride safe, regards mike,United Kingdom, softail deluxe owner 🇬🇧
I like your videos. But saying people should have a phone holder mount on the handlebar is a little much. Plus saying that if you have it there it is easier to scroll through it. As soon as you start playing with that phone no matter where it is you have become a distracted driver. Put it away. In your saddle bag or somewhere you can't reach it. Been riding for over 25 years, never mounted a phone to my handlebar.
If you travel long distances like many do having your phone out, is a necessity for navigation. I will agree with you if you are a beginner rider and traveling long distances, there would be no reason for it
John great video with a bunch of information for new riders. I am also a new rider and was thinking of your tips as I was out for a ride on Friday. One question I have is, when passing vehicles in a passing lane, where do you position the bike in your lane when on coming traffic of a single lane? My intuition says in the middle of the lane with cars on both side of you. Love to hear your input. Love the channel. James
I’ve started to wait 2-3 seconds after a green before I start moving. I had one circumstance where a lady tried to beat a yellow light to turn left onto the street I was on, as soon as it turned green I started going and she stopped legit a foot from me. If she didn’t react as quick as she dead, chances are I wouldn’t be writing this right now. 3 second rule is a real thing.
I saw you have the indie ridge boots (I do as well - And love them) and those appear to be their gloves. If so, how are the gloves? I'm starting to invest a little more in cold riding gear and their gloves are high on my list. Great video loaded with good tips. Thank you
I agree with everything you’re saying , I’ve ridden in groups where the person infront of me will get by a tractor trailer and will stay next to them and I’m thinking , MOVE, our they will get in the passing lane and start riding slower then the flow of traffic and I’m in the back and cars are on my ass
You are 100% right I was going through an intersection with my music loud has the green light and there goes a firetruck. I had to do the emergency breaking. That’s why I’m here today.
I'm a veteran rider but watch all these kinds of videos just to see if I can glean some information that I don't know. I do all of these things. Considering my first Harley, 2022 RG Special.
Your a credit to the motorcycle community JB. Taking the time to produce this video when you could have just enjoyed the ride with your buddies. Keep in mind you probably saved a lot of newbies and veterans. Cheers buddy.

Great tip safety video man!! Been riding for 20yrs and still picking up tips for riding! Keep up the great work!
When I saw the time, I said, “no way I’m listening to all this!” But it was amazing. So helpful. I needed it.

Never have your bike in neutral at a stop is always an absolute must for every ride.Awesome video!!!
Did you mention not riding with no hands?
LOL
Pictures tell a thousand words :)
This video has tips only seasoned riders know. Glad i watched it. Thanks.

Absolutely!

Excellent Video! A Must See for any Rider! 👍😎
Great advice. I drive a semi and I'm just astounded how many people just ride next to me. And you are right, common sense is not so common
An old buddy of mine & I used to say...Rule #1 - don't crash Rule #2 - refer to rule #1

Great advice. I've been riding for 50+ years and I ride as if every other vehicle on the road is trying to kill me.
I love your tips but any advice on what to tell the cops when you get pulled over for speeding past semi's , here in Ohio they are very strict on speeding
Excellent video! Pointers i will remember. 👍🤟
Great video with great content and gawd only knows how many crashes you may have prevented. But, I have to admit that I chuckled several times while watching a bike safety video I saw you riding with no hands on the handlebars. LOL

I do t have a phone holder on my bike. Rode across country without kept it in the fairing plugged in. I used the navigation on my infotainment center.
Oh by the way great video excellent information.
Excellent information...
You and Rob should do video together again!!! And thanks again for refreshing me!!
Indie Ridge boots, awesome! I love mine.
The best!
Outstanding video Sir!! You are truly a blessing to the motorcycle community. These tips are lifesaving. Keep up the good work.
Love the channel.

all great tips...what gloves you running in the cold...
Indie ridge
Head on swivel ! Ride safe! Be careful! May his be with you !
All solid tips & advice, nice vid!
Hey man! We need a breakdown on the rest of the outfit! Jeans boots
Thank you
Boots and gloves are the best 💯👍👍
@@CYCLEFANATIX much appreciated 🙏
Good info and smart tips! Do you have a video on what kind of mic you use inside your helmet for your audio setup?
Rode mic
@CYCLEFANATIX Thank you sir!
Great riding tips!!
