I use a bow to kill leeches, or sometimes stagbreaker if there are 3 or more in one spot. They often just sit there and let you kill them. Draugr are pretty unobservant usually, so you can often one-shot them with a bow too if they don't know you're there. If not, they are pretty easy to stagger with a parry and kill. Wraiths can be killed the same way, once you start to parry them and smash them while they're staggered they don't seem so scary. Making an elevated base is a good idea too, if you get swarmed by enemies or run into an abomination, you can climb up into the trees and shoot from above, abominations are easy to burn down with fire arrows if you are above them. And it's hilarious if you get invaded by trolls, you can sit in safety and watch them beat down on anything nearby, 2 trolls can take down an abomination and save you a lot of arrows.
Nice video and great tips. Just to point out a few things though. 1) You will always have a "wet" debuff in the swamp. Even having patches of land that you can create won't prevent it. 2) You can dock your boat, but you have to be a bit smart about it by clearing any mobs nearby then placing a workbench. If you don't want to risk it, destroy your boat (in shallow water), and carry the pieces with you. 3) Destroy abominations as soon as you're able so you can switch to the root armour which has great poison and pierce resistance.
Thanks! 1. So I’ve heard, thanks for the info! My view is probably skewed due to too much time in dev mode… 2. Good idea! 3. That root armor is phenomenal in the swamp!

Fast forward to the mistland release, and me picking the game back up to play as intended. It took me around a year irl and 125 ingame days to actually stop dragging my feet and get to beating the elder. This video has been a major contributing factor to me picking up the courage to venture back in there, thank you.
You don't have to choose between surtling farm and abomination killer. You can keep the water shallow enough to run on, while still auto-killing surtlings for you. Also, the fire geysers can kill wraiths neatly. So, if you have one nearby, swamps can be safe at night. Docking your boat in the swamp might be necesaary if all the nearby biomes are either plains or more swamp. Just be sure to intentionally beach it, so that you can destroy it and get all the mats back.
Good tips, I will have to try the geysers for Wraiths next time! Definitely might get stuck docking the boat in the swamp sometimes, good plan to make sure you get those nails back!
My GF and me had our first taste of the swamp 2 days ago. It didn't go well, we sailed across the ocean only to loose everything we had, including our boat. So here I am... searching for what to do to avoid it from happening again. Thanks for the video!
No matter what you are doing or what biome you are in, Always and I mean ALWAYS have a portal nearby, that way you can get back home to offload when your full and get back easily for a corpse run if you die. when it's time to move on you can simply bring the portal with you and set it up in the next area.
A good tip for blobs if you dont have a poisin resist mead is to wait for them to jump and hit them as soon as they land, they wont be able to attack you for like 2 seconds after landing
I find the best way to farm iron is by following these orders: 1. Scout the swamp and mark the map for crypts. If you find four or more, then you can start the mining process. 2. Build workbench and portal on top of the crypts. Also build chests to store the irons temporarily. 3. Use only antler pickaxes since they can be repaired at workbenches. 4. If u done mining all four-five crypts that you found, secure a location at the shore of the swamp and build workbench and chests. 5. Bring all your irons from those crypts to that location. 6. Build a boat. 7. Load all the irons into the boat and go home.
I've found that you can lure an abomination to a knocked down tree and use it to kind of get above it. You can power attack it with an axe which does decent damage and it can't hit you.
I gathered that Wraiths only spawned at night from the wiki, but the rest of the info here just helped me immensely. The swamp just roadblocked my friend and I hard last night. Tomorrow will be fun.
To build on the theme of swamps at night, if you find yourself stuck in the swamp as night falls, you can duck into a crypt, set up a campfire and just sit down and wait it out. Once I clear out enough crypts to get all the iron I need, I usually have found tons of chains so don’t find myself needing to farm wraiths

Great video. Excellent tips. Boat docking in swamp is not ideal (tho sometimes unavoidable), but can be managed if you raise the ground shallow enough depth to retrieve your boat materials if necessary.
Mostly good advice. Better advice yet though, get gud. Jokes aside, learn the attack animations, don't bother with poison resist mead(unless you are doing the bonemass fight), make some healing mead, max out your troll gear and always keep your wits about you. Using sneaking is a good way to see if enemies are nearby, when travelling at night don't go sprinting around like a mad man, instead stay calm and always keep an eye on the sky. Don't fight abominations full stop, play smarter not harder here, burn them in surtling geysers by abusing the ai or if you don't have a geyser just bring them to another biome like black forest or mountain and let them get beat down by other factions. For wraiths either burn them on geysers or lure them to black forest and place fires down while kiting. Do not fight leeches in the water, EVER, use a mace and do upper cut(power move) close to water's edge, usually one shots them, either that or shoot them and last choice is stagbreaker them a few times. Oozers can be a pain, positioning is basically everything. Sneak archer archetype also works well in swamps, tanks in heavy armour typically suffer most here, as you need to be mobile and be able to remove threats quickly. Eikthir power is really useful but not mandatory. Finally, never let your stamina run out and make sure you have a balanced diet that will allow you to take a couple of hits and enough stamina to get out of harms way. I often spend several days in the swamp at a time in only troll gear with a bronze mace and a few bits of cooked food, it can be a tough biome if you aren't aware of your surroundings, quite oppressive at times, but if you just get better you'll find it rather safe compared to ice caves, mountain or mistlands.

By the way, it is always raining in the swamp you can't evade that. The hoe still helps though, as it makes terrain more passable (though it may be harder to farm leeches that way).
Just make a 2nd world. Your character keeps everything in his inventory when you log out and switch worlds. Don’t progress at all in the world and make it your home base. You can build anything your character has learned. Keep everything you don’t want to lose there. Good to know, thanks!
Using a fire in any dungeon is good, not just crypts.
Very true!
The swamp is about where I stop playing lol
The swamp is very difficult
Don't worry even when the sun still high i always try to sleep after every trip
I'll just afk at crypt entrance if night is out there
Just make a 2nd world. Your character keeps everything in his inventory when you log out and switch worlds. Don’t progress at all in the world and make it your home base. You can build anything your character has learned. Keep everything you don’t want to lose there. Simply pause and logout if you get in trouble, go to your home base world, heal up, repair, and head back to the fight. Rinse and repeat. You can’t die.
Guys, seriously. I’m a noob. Why am I the only one to know this?
Definitely a solid system! But it’s not a way I’m interested in playing…
Yawn
You're not the only one to know, it's just a cheesy way of playing
@@slayingfury3 call it cheesy all you want, but I don’t have the kind of time required to transport everything back to a home base.
I have never come across a crypt in the swamps.
That is unfortunate luck!
Yeah it gets ridiculous in some maps
10 tips for conquering the swamp:
1) Don't
went for first time in swamp and died in 1min
I am so bad at this game
It can be rough! Thankfully it’s a good game to take slow and gradually improve at!
Swamp is easy mode....mountains and plains are for the hardcore. I actually haven't been to the recent mistlands and judging from the difficulty difference of the swamp and mts and plains...I'd say bring a nuke with you.
Oh man! I got slaughtered in the swamp…
Seen like way to much work to injoy the game 🎮
I enjoy it regardless of how well the swamps go (typically they don’t go well for me) :P
looks like a miserable area
It’s a bit dreary!
It's meant to be! It really tests your abilities but is very rewarding once you get to know it
Why in the world would you melee blobs? Or leeches.
Blobs can be one shotted with a proper mace! But mainly, I just prefer melee.
its really not that hard my biggest tip is to learn to parry draugrs cuz they hit heavy if you have bronze armor
Parrying is definitely important!
My girl
