    For Players on XBOX - The Shift Level function can be achieved by either pressing LB or the Right Thumbstick (depending on controller settings in-game).
    You can see which button it is by checking the legend for "Alternative Placement"

    • @Aaronencv266
      @Aaronencv266 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Left bumper plus right stick to turn on and off alternative placement. if you're holding a hammer you get a crossed magnet icon displayed. and if you're holding the hoe you get a crossed dirt hill displayed.

      Thank you was about to hit every button on controller to see if shift worked....or just plug in my keyboard and hope.

    The cultivator also restores sandy bottoms in the water, really nice after you've carved out sections for a dock or waterway

    The ramp tip by using shift and level is super helpful. I've always tried to make ramps by walking sideways and leveling normally, which sometimes works, but the shift method looks so much cleaner. Thanks a ton!
    Edit: one thing that would be SO NICE would be different sizes and shapes of the hoe placement. Would love a square option, but at least letting us zoom the circle size up or down with middle mouse scroll would be super helpful to getting edges cleaned up instead of having to be super precise with the large default circle we have.

    • @Stratagerm
      @Stratagerm ปีที่แล้ว +1

      These features already exist in mods. OCDheim makes the hoe a 2x2m square which levels all 9 1m grid points and allows raising terrain in increments of .05m. Unfortunately it's not client-side-only, requiring installation on both client and server. But great for single player use. HoeRadius by aedenthorn lets you adjust size using the scroll wheel and is client-side only.

    • @4Ivarr
      @4Ivarr ปีที่แล้ว

      THe OCDHeim plugin gives you the square option.

    • @jasonbaugher2464
      @jasonbaugher2464 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@aaronworne9815 Was actually planning on finding this out later tonight. I'm thinking RL1/bumper or stick press while using standard function like some of the other alternate placement options.

      860 hours in and i really wish, i had seen that slope part sooner, so many wasted hours trying to create a way up one of my builds until finally giving up and calling it finished...

    I've always wondered how the system works, I never seemed to get the desired results, the ground would not either raise or flatten the way I wanted. I had no idea, for example how to raise it so perfectly with sharp edges because I didn't know about the directional lines correlating to it! To me it always just seemed to rise in unpredictable and misshapen manner. Thank you! :)

      @donmiller2908 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I had to watch the lines too when I was building a cellar. You have to orient the house to the lines if you want a nice straight cellar, you can't just build the house in any direction.

    Thank you! Especially for the dirt ramp tutorial.
    WIsh I knew that sooner. My first playthrough I built away from the water. Later on I made a dock and then connected them with a stone path. The problem was my new dock was downhill from my newbshack. I couldn't figure out how to make the dirt ramps so some section just have stairs slapped it. It doesn't look horrible but definitely wasn't my original plan and I probably lost an hour or more raising and flattening terrain before I compromised with the stairs.

    3:00-3:50 One huge note to potentially save a lot of stone: Terrain will raise close to the elevation of the marker circle.
    Also for leveling: Consider standing on a solid platform like a wood floor to maintain a consistent elevation.

    • @KalonOrdona2
      @KalonOrdona2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't like to stand on wood floor because it's harder to see what I'm doing and it brings it too close to the surface -- you start seeing the little pebbles show through the floor, which sometimes I think is cool but sometimes not.
      Instead, I just get a small area exactly the height I want it and perfectly smooth, then use that as the source to spread out from and fall back to if I mess up.
      It sure is nice to have a wide field of perfectly flat terrain! Especially for crops, it feels nice
