i think people forget shelby didn’t give rachel up for adoption, she was a surrogate. she saw an ad in the paper from rachel’s dads and answered it. people get upset that she wasn’t there or gave her up but she was just a surrogate.
I think every character had their bad moments. The hate is really just unnecessarily high. People seem to forget what all the other characters did too. But I think the main problem is the crossover hate to Matthew Morrison. Matthew is not Will and vice versa. Same face not the same person.
I think the issue is that everyone always treated Will like he was some perfect, wonderful teacher who only did good. Everyone knows Rachel was a little annoying narcissist, that Quinn did some awful things, that Sue was a villain. The show gave Will a completely different edit, though, that's why people are now making videos and peeling the layers of his creepy behavior.
Fair enough but if a person's wanting to do that, maybe they shouldn't say "Will is the worst" when what they really mean is "Will is worse than you remember" or "Will Schuster's character didn't age well" or something more in that direction
Please don’t come for me but I can’t be the only one who disliked Santana. Naya played her amazingly and so mean, but come on. Santana constantly and mercilessly body-shamed both Finn and Rachel (and probably other people too) and I am not saying Finn outing her was right, hell no. But Santana also constantly made fun of Kurt being (at the time potentially) gay. Her hating herself/not understanding herself is not an excuse for the bullying she did over the years.
In fact, the point of that character is that we hate her. But at the same time the show is a satire in which nothing makes sense, so I am not surprised that they like it haha

I think the difference between Will and everyone else is that so much of what everyone else did was painted as bad in the moment, whereas a lot of Will's actions were painted as totally normal or acceptable.
You can say this about almost everyone though. No one actually faced consequences for their actions. Rachel was forgiven for trying to kill Sunshine because she sang a song for Pete sakes. Almost every character was given the sympathetic edit for their characters actions.

Every character agree to say that Rachel is racist, that Sue is a crazy villain, Kitty's actions lead another girl to develop an eating disorder which in itself shows that her actions have consequences... I think the only one mentionned in this video who was never called for her actions was Unique and her catfish. Otherwise, we are not supposed to root for them when they did all this stuff. On the other hand, Shue is always portrayed as this positive character. Except for once or twice, he is never portrayed as the bad guy.

for some reason, some people have trouble distinguish characters and reality. I think they are so used to see them on shows or movies that they forget the actor just share the same face as the character, but that they are not the same.

The problem is with the writing: very rarely were Mr. Schue’s actions portrayed as toxic or wrong, whereas the kids and the shows villains were very clearly shown to be harming others.

In defense of Quinn, I always thought it was weird that Shelby wasn’t portrayed as the villain in that situation. It’s not like this was a planned out thing. Quinn had only given birth hours before and immediately before she went into labor her mom said she could move back in AND she’d help her with the baby. It was the first time she had the option to raise Beth and she had no time to think about it before she goes into labor. Shelby is a grown woman who followed her to the hospital and talked her into given up her kid that day. Quinn was 15 years old. She took a baby from a child and left the state, then came back and basically said Quinn could be a babysitter. When she said “did you really think they were just gonna give you Beth?” Honestly, yes. If a judge looked at that shady adoption and Quinn’s mom wanted Beth back, she’d probably win.
I never thought about it this way, but it is true, this is weird. Quinn never really had the possibility to think clearly about what she wanted to do with Beth. At first Terri wanted to take the baby, then it was Shelby. It never felt like it was her actual decision, she was always pressured.
I feel like the reason why so many people get on Will so badly is because of how the show painted him. They made him out to be this amazing teacher when in reality he definitely wasn’t. Similarly people nowadays are also turning against Finn, because as you said he did bad things but the show never punished him for it.

Either way, Matt Morrison would not have had the final say in which scenes appear or are cut-he would not have had that much power. He’s an actor on the show who guest directed, he would automatically be under both the show runners and the network executives; it is the latter that always has the final say regardless. Even major Hollywood movie directors are at the mercy of the executives-that’s why we have directors’ cuts. Either way it is utterly irrelevant in the discussion of Morrison’s personal character.

I think it is because of the way he is portrayed. In the show, everybody sees Rachel as a selfish and self-centred person, Sue as a mean and crazy person, most of the bad things the characters did were recognized as bad (I said most because not all of them). And so, when they do good things, people thinks "maybe they are not that bad inside". But Schue is always portrayed as the positive character. He is supposed to be an amazing teacher and a good person. So when he did creepy things, we tend to blame him more than the other because it is unfair that he did these things and is still portray as amazing.
when amy started with rachel, i immediately knew that the first point had to be about the crack house. LIKE WTF?!?! rachel has done tons of messed up stuff, but sending sunshhine to a crack house was a whole other level.
Will had uncomfortable ties to some students, but you forgot Sue's WORST crime IMHO, basically making a servant out of Becky to actually DO a lot of her really sneaky stuff & using Becky to try & 'fill' the hole in Sue's left by her sister Jean's death. No-one can fill in for anyone else in that way. Yes, Sue DID look out for Becky, but that was only partly FOR Becky, a lot of that was for Sue. And having the Klaine lock-up, never mind being out with a vunerable student late at night & showing Becky, that, REALLY?! Where the HELL were Becky's other adults in a all this?! Oh, yeah, that's right Sue, cut her off from them. Seriously, how often did we see Becky with anyone else without Sue in the room? GUILTY?!

Puck was just as complicit as Shelby in their relationship, and he made SO MANY OTHER CREEPY COMMENTS about non-dating age students that it irreparably blurred the lines between actor and character. PUCK is the worst character on Glee.
Puck was certainly not a good guy (he got Quinn drunk and then had sex with her. Full stop, that's sexual assault), but in the specific case with Shelby, I don't think he's at fault. He may not have been a minor at the time, but being his teacher puts her in a position of power. The whole Puck hooking up with older women thing was always gross and was never treated like the actual crime that it was.
That's so true, yeah, Puck was so wrong to give Quinn drinks and pressure her to sleep with him. In fact, he was also putting her health at risk by having unprotected sex when he'd already had unprotected sex with a lot of different people, that was really bad and it's weird that it wasn't framed as such as it was really uncomfortable.
The thing about comparing Will and Sue is that Sue was obviously supposed to be a caricature and a horrible person whereas the show tried to pass Will off as always the good guy, changed his students' lives, wonderful mentor figure. The fact that the bad stuff he did was always ignored or justified in favor of him being the good guy is the issue I have and why I think he's the worst. He was supposed to be relatively down to earth when many of the other characters were obviously dramatized for comedic effect.
I will say, i dont think that was her reasoning. She wasn't forcing religion on him. She was trying to comfort him in a way that made sense to her. I understand not everyone is or should be expected to understand or even like religion, but I don't think bringing Kurt to church to show that even people he doesn't know were there to support him was a bad thing.

Blaine isn't a bad person for dating Karofsky, as Karofsky was a troubled teen and really grew as a person and apologised for his mistakes... Blaine is a bad person for dating Karofsky knowing fully well that he was just using him as a "meanwhile" because he knew he still loved Kurt. He just used and played with Karofsky's feelings, that teddy bear deserved better

Honestly, Blaine dating Karofksy is the tip of his very terrible iceberg. He also cheated on Kurt after publicly shaming Kurt for daring to text another guy just a season before. The emotional manipulation Blaine gets away with is *wild*.

I would love to see a video ranking these characters from Good to Evil for sure. Yes, all of them were problematic to some degree, but it’s be interesting to see who ends up in the good, grey area and bad areas of morality.

I hate that Finn never apologized for outing Santana and was praised as the hero. None of the male characters apologized for their actions and there was like never any real repercussions for them. Bust Your Windows is an iconic moment, but I'm still surprised there wasn't any fallout from it. But to be fair everyone pretty much got away with everything except for Marley when she wore a Katy Perry outfit because she didn't want to show off her body, like what?
I'm sorry, I'm just going to play the devil's advocate here... but I don't agree with you on Blaine. I'd agree if you justified it with him cheating (although, considering everyone on that show cheated it wouldn't be completely fair)... it's just, I see this argument way too often, and while I understand your point, I think most people forget Karofsky and Kurt had made peace, and Kurt even agreed on being his friend. I'm not denying there was a past there, but people saying Blaine was a bad person for dating his ex's ex-bully just doesn't make complete sense to me. By saying so it's almost like ignoring Dave's redemption arc, which is a shame, because it is one of the best Glee ever did. Also, Kurt didn't seem to be bothered by Blaine's new boyfriend being David, he was bothered because Blaine had a bf, period (even if Kurt was the one to end the relationship in the first place, but oh well). And just that isn't nearly as bad as half the things Mr.Shue did (even when I agree with you in that the hate has gone too far)

i think people forget shelby didn’t give rachel up for adoption, she was a surrogate. she saw an ad in the paper from rachel’s dads and answered it. people get upset that she wasn’t there or gave her up but she was just a surrogate.
I think every character had their bad moments. The hate is really just unnecessarily high. People seem to forget what all the other characters did too. But I think the main problem is the crossover hate to Matthew Morrison. Matthew is not Will and vice versa. Same face not the same person.
I think the issue is that everyone always treated Will like he was some perfect, wonderful teacher who only did good. Everyone knows Rachel was a little annoying narcissist, that Quinn did some awful things, that Sue was a villain. The show gave Will a completely different edit, though, that's why people are now making videos and peeling the layers of his creepy behavior.
Exactly, it’s not that he was as bad/worse than the other characters but that the writers portrayed him as being better/in the right when he wasn’t.

Please don’t come for me but I can’t be the only one who disliked Santana. Naya played her amazingly and so mean, but come on. Santana constantly and mercilessly body-shamed both Finn and Rachel (and probably other people too) and I am not saying Finn outing her was right, hell no. But Santana also constantly made fun of Kurt being (at the time potentially) gay. Her hating herself/not understanding herself is not an excuse for the bullying she did over the years.
In fact, the point of that character is that we hate her. But at the same time the show is a satire in which nothing makes sense, so I am not surprised that they like it haha
It was the gaslighting of Brit for me. Like we were supposed to find it funny that she’d told her that cheating on her while she was with Artie didn’t count but it was actually super shitty.

I think the difference between Will and everyone else is that so much of what everyone else did was painted as bad in the moment, whereas a lot of Will's actions were painted as totally normal or acceptable.
You can say this about almost everyone though. No one actually faced consequences for their actions. Rachel was forgiven for trying to kill Sunshine because she sang a song for Pete sakes. Almost every character was given the sympathetic edit for their characters actions.

Every character agree to say that Rachel is racist, that Sue is a crazy villain, Kitty's actions lead another girl to develop an eating disorder which in itself shows that her actions have consequences... I think the only one mentionned in this video who was never called for her actions was Unique and her catfish. Otherwise, we are not supposed to root for them when they did all this stuff.
On the other hand, Shue is always portrayed as this positive character. Except for once or twice, he is never portrayed as the bad guy.

The problem is with the writing: very rarely were Mr. Schue’s actions portrayed as toxic or wrong, whereas the kids and the shows villains were very clearly shown to be harming others.

In defense of Quinn, I always thought it was weird that Shelby wasn’t portrayed as the villain in that situation. It’s not like this was a planned out thing. Quinn had only given birth hours before and immediately before she went into labor her mom said she could move back in AND she’d help her with the baby. It was the first time she had the option to raise Beth and she had no time to think about it before she goes into labor. Shelby is a grown woman who followed her to the hospital and talked her into given up her kid that day. Quinn was 15 years old. She took a baby from a child and left the state, then came back and basically said Quinn could be a babysitter. When she said “did you really think they were just gonna give you Beth?” Honestly, yes. If a judge looked at that shady adoption and Quinn’s mom wanted Beth back, she’d probably win.
I never thought about it this way, but it is true, this is weird. Quinn never really had the possibility to think clearly about what she wanted to do with Beth. At first Terri wanted to take the baby, then it was Shelby. It never felt like it was her actual decision, she was always pressured.
I feel like the reason why so many people get on Will so badly is because of how the show painted him. They made him out to be this amazing teacher when in reality he definitely wasn’t. Similarly people nowadays are also turning against Finn, because as you said he did bad things but the show never punished him for it.
Let’s not forget when Quinn sang “this is a mans world” with loads of other pregnant teenagers. ICONIC

Either way, Matt Morrison would not have had the final say in which scenes appear or are cut-he would not have had that much power. He’s an actor on the show who guest directed, he would automatically be under both the show runners and the network executives; it is the latter that always has the final say regardless. Even major Hollywood movie directors are at the mercy of the executives-that’s why we have directors’ cuts. Either way it is utterly irrelevant in the discussion of Morrison’s personal character.

I think it is because of the way he is portrayed.
In the show, everybody sees Rachel as a selfish and self-centred person, Sue as a mean and crazy person, most of the bad things the characters did were recognized as bad (I said most because not all of them). And so, when they do good things, people thinks "maybe they are not that bad inside".
But Schue is always portrayed as the positive character. He is supposed to be an amazing teacher and a good person. So when he did creepy things, we tend to blame him more than the other because it is unfair that he did these things and is still portray as amazing.

when amy started with rachel, i immediately knew that the first point had to be about the crack house. LIKE WTF?!?! rachel has done tons of messed up stuff, but sending sunshhine to a crack house was a whole other level.
Will had uncomfortable ties to some students, but you forgot Sue's WORST crime IMHO, basically making a servant out of Becky to actually DO a lot of her really sneaky stuff & using Becky to try & 'fill' the hole in Sue's left by her sister Jean's death. No-one can fill in for anyone else in that way. Yes, Sue DID look out for Becky, but that was only partly FOR Becky, a lot of that was for Sue. And having the Klaine lock-up, never mind being out with a vunerable student late at night & showing Becky, that, REALLY?! Where the HELL were Becky's other adults in a all this?! Oh, yeah, that's right Sue, cut her off from them. Seriously, how often did we see Becky with anyone else without Sue in the room? GUILTY?!

Puck was just as complicit as Shelby in their relationship, and he made SO MANY OTHER CREEPY COMMENTS about non-dating age students that it irreparably blurred the lines between actor and character. PUCK is the worst character on Glee.
Puck was certainly not a good guy (he got Quinn drunk and then had sex with her. Full stop, that's sexual assault), but in the specific case with Shelby, I don't think he's at fault. He may not have been a minor at the time, but being his teacher puts her in a position of power. The whole Puck hooking up with older women thing was always gross and was never treated like the actual crime that it was.
That's so true, yeah, Puck was so wrong to give Quinn drinks and pressure her to sleep with him. In fact, he was also putting her health at risk by having unprotected sex when he'd already had unprotected sex with a lot of different people, that was really bad and it's weird that it wasn't framed as such as it was really uncomfortable.

The thing about comparing Will and Sue is that Sue was obviously supposed to be a caricature and a horrible person whereas the show tried to pass Will off as always the good guy, changed his students' lives, wonderful mentor figure. The fact that the bad stuff he did was always ignored or justified in favor of him being the good guy is the issue I have and why I think he's the worst. He was supposed to be relatively down to earth when many of the other characters were obviously dramatized for comedic effect.
As soon as you said "Do you remember when Rachel Berry--" I thought "sent Sunshine to a crack den" before you even said it.
As an aside i just wanted to say the shirt, the hair, very strong sapphic energy in this video. love it 10/10

I would love to see a video ranking these characters from Good to Evil for sure. Yes, all of them were problematic to some degree, but it’s be interesting to see who ends up in the good, grey area and bad areas of morality.
As regards minute 17.30 she didn't make them do that song the girls chose that song and didn't fit the task that they were given THAT was the issue of that episode. If anything she did the right thing when she called them out on it

I hate that Finn never apologized for outing Santana and was praised as the hero. None of the male characters apologized for their actions and there was like never any real repercussions for them. Bust Your Windows is an iconic moment, but I'm still surprised there wasn't any fallout from it. But to be fair everyone pretty much got away with everything except for Marley when she wore a Katy Perry outfit because she didn't want to show off her body, like what?
I'm sorry, I'm just going to play the devil's advocate here... but I don't agree with you on Blaine. I'd agree if you justified it with him cheating (although, considering everyone on that show cheated it wouldn't be completely fair)... it's just, I see this argument way too often, and while I understand your point, I think most people forget Karofsky and Kurt had made peace, and Kurt even agreed on being his friend. I'm not denying there was a past there, but people saying Blaine was a bad person for dating his ex's ex-bully just doesn't make complete sense to me. By saying so it's almost like ignoring Dave's redemption arc, which is a shame, because it is one of the best Glee ever did. Also, Kurt didn't seem to be bothered by Blaine's new boyfriend being David, he was bothered because Blaine had a bf, period (even if Kurt was the one to end the relationship in the first place, but oh well). And just that isn't nearly as bad as half the things Mr.Shue did (even when I agree with you in that the hate has gone too far)
